I think the magic of Patti is that she rarely performs the same song the same way. She has the guts and talent to improvise on stage. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. But not knowing what will happen makes the performance more exciting and memorable.
First of all let me make it clear that I love Patti Labelle. But I also believe in giving honest critiques. Sometimes Patti tends to over embellish the lyrics a little. Therefore, throwing her timing off. And sometimes this works against her. The beginning of this performance was not her best. At least it wasn't to me.
to me her best performance of this song was on pat sajak because she actually sung the song through without bringing people on stage to sing it with her and stuff she did it all by herself professionally and i loved it nowadays patti just plays around on the stage she's not serious like she used to be but hey she's had a long career so i guess she feels she can do what she wants go patti!!

Show me a singer who nails every performance and I'll show you a 25 dollar bill. They just don't exist. But I still think Patti at her worst is better than most singers at their best. Now that's the truth. She's in a class by herself. There is only one singer who can stir an audience like Patti. And that's Shirley Caesar.
