well this is my first time listening to this album, and at the halfway point I gotta say I enjoyed safe as milk more, as much as I hate to say it, milk was more-erm accessible. I never thought I'd say I liked a more accessible album more. but maybe when I'm finished with this one I'll change my mind
I wanna try PROPERLY learning this with my bands guitarist...I dunno how close we'd get but if we got the wierd riffs bang on and a few of the discords I'd be happy
He doesn't listen to Beefheart at all...what chance do you think I've got?
@addylewis If you're both any good, you should be able to make it. This should make it easier: each guitar is in it's own channel, so, each of you should just learn stuff from your own assigned channel. It took the band 8 months to learn to play the entire album, you should be able to get this in next to no time!! Good luck with it!!
Funny you mention getting rid of guests.... I too used to put on a side of TMR late in the evening when the gang was hanging too late. It had this way of making most everyone uncomfortable. They would all-of-a-sudden get up & leave! End of party!
If you liked this listen to a couple of his later instrumentals. I recomend, "A Carrot Is As Close As A Rabbit Gets To A Diamond," and, "One Red Rose That I Mean." Both, incidently covered by Henry Kaiser.
@TumbrelJockey TMR, Lumpy Gravy, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, and a few others had a similar effect for me. The funny part was I played them because I wanted to.......I didn't give a shit who left. RIP Don.

@KingOfWhiteTrash1 Grew to love it -the more atonal/discordant/dissonant the better. Now I'd play Beefheart to attract ,rather than repel.
