They beat us good in this one but it was also their national team vs our1962 Allan Cup champions Chatham Maroons. Their are some well known local Chatham boys in this line up in Skov, George Aitken and Bennent playing net. The full game was on at one point but somebody must have removed it.......Go Maroons!!!
Ok, he was the captain for the national team in the late 60:ths and early 70:ths. He played for Spartak as I remember. Is he still going strong or...?
He had a stroke about two years ago, but his real trouble has been with his knee. He bruised his MCL at the end of his career and hasn't really been the same.
Exactly. It's all speculation. I am speculating that the Trail Smoke Eaters would have won this championship had they made it to the final. I have nothing to prove this. And you are speculating that they would not have won this particular championship. You have nothing to prove this. Now let us get on with our lives.
@jeroliver Duly noted, but Russia/USSR has participated in soccer´s world cup 9 times. Canada has a lot of great soccer players, but the CSA gets little support as the government likes to put all its eggs in one great big puck bag. That´s unfortunate, because Canada should be in the FIFA World Cup.
@SenhordoBonfim Yes, Canada should be in the world cup. We don't have enough indoor soccer facilities here though. Our winters are long. And it's really expensive. I play soccer and hockey all year. Soccer costs MORE than hockey in my town! They'll kick you off fields for playing without the town's approval! damn greedy politicians. Russia also has 142 million people and we only have 30. They also live next to europe which is soccer crazy and they have way more club teams to follow.
@jeroliver don´t sell yourself short - 34 million people! But there are many countries with smaller populations who have participated in the world cup, most notably Slovenia with a pop. of 2.5 million. Canada has a lot of great players. But the CSA needs better support and infrastructure. They just revamped the organization, so hopefully this is a sign of better things to come. Plus 3 CDN. cities in MLS, soccer is growing in Canada. Even a Brazilian soccer magazine down here has made mention.
@jeroliver Yeah, that was pretty cool to see! I grew up a hockey nut in the states, lived in Canada for 15 years and now I´m here...there is hockey in Brazil, but it´s mostly roller and mostly down in the southern part of the country. I mostly watch hockey on NHL.com..and of course YouTube..
@SenhordoBonfim right on. So who were you cheering for in the Olympic gold medal game? :) Do you play hockey? I'm assuming skates and shoulder pads weren't the first thing you packed when you moved to Brazil lol. I'd love to move to a country that isn't great at hockey and just light everyone up haha.
@jeroliver Canada vs. USA is always a tough one for me. I´ll just let myself off the hook and say the right team won. Particularly since the games were in Vancouver. One surprising thing about the Olympic coverage here is that it was stellar. Particularly the hockey games, which were shown in their entirety. Friends were telling me how bad NBC´s coverage was, and I felt like I was watching a portuguese version of the CBC! : )
@SenhordoBonfim That's awesome! I remember wondering whether S.American countries watched the winter Olympics. I guess I know now. What a rush of national pride I felt during those games! Obviously I was cheering for Canada but I don't get the same type of enjoyment beating the U.S. as I do Russia. Enjoy Brazil my friend!
canada has won 46 percent of all olympic hockey gold since the event was added to the games so this doesnt mean shit

Yes, and the fact is Trail won the World Championships in 1939 and 1961.

The fact is that this was a played game and you are talking about what you think.

I'd love to know exactly when this game was played. The Chatham Maroons were a fairly decent Senior A team in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

This game played in november 1960.

Thanks. I'm surprised this game was so one-sided. Canadian Snior A teams were still good enough to win world amateur titles back then.
