Build high-speed rail in California like planned, and then build it in Florida, around the Great Lakes, and down the North East Corridor. Put people back to work by giving Americans a fast, economical, and enviornmentaly-friendly transportation alternative.
Yes, I sound like some whiny liberal, but you know it's true folks.
I remember when we (americans) made fun of the high fuel prices in Europe when gas was relatively cheap in the USA. Germany was spending $4-5 billion per year on hi-speed rail in the early 1980's. The longer we wait the more it will cost. The best way to fund it is with fuel taxes and additonal road taxes such as toll roads. To think that hi-speed rail will be profitable is naive. The best combination is government owned right-of-way and privately owned trains, I think!
no high speed rail on the west coast, that said; so how about high speed rail from Chicago to Denver, 1 stop in Rock Island, Illinois, next stop in Omaha, Nebraska, and then get into Denver...and a nice high speed from Chicago to Minneapolis [Wisconsin doesn't want it so no need to stop there]
I voted against building a high-speed rail between LA and SF because the state is nearly bankrupt--there are huge budget gaps, and funding for the UC system is dismally low.
Fee hikes, furloughs, and pay cuts have been affecting California schools for quite some time now, and academic performance is suffering further.
Is now the time to be building a rail?
I'm not against the rail, but I am against building one now.
@greygooseification well first off it will be done like in 2020 so by then our econonmy should be back up unless our leaders dont do anything about climate change then we'll all just be in chaos and war
@greygooseification IMAGINE how much more money people could have without having to feed 2 to 3 gasoline cars......If we could get by on just one little car.......And have plenty of public transportation......
@poseidoncambria "Yawn"! You obviously didn't see the poll in recent days where many who voted for this thing several years ago would vote against it today! Support is dieing, we can't afford it, the first phase is starting and ending in the Central Valley where few will ride it.
@MrEiriku Your male lover is now very happy that you finally came out of the closet and admitted that you are gay! I bet that you and he cannot wait for your own buttsex in a high speed train ... LOL
Fake!!!!!!

High-speed rail, come to think of it, is symbolic/metaphoric to being progressive. it's about time already.

Is this a priority in California?
