kelsey grammar acts exactly like he does on frasier! he even starts off on letterman by saying that he saw a french play...how many times do we see him do that in frasier! lol awesome!!
I just started watching Frasier. It is so intelligent. The characters are so witty, and the show is just gold. Sitcoms are nothing compared to this nowadays. The sitcoms that I love now are Frasier, Arrested Development, and Seinfeld.
I end up watching Frasier almost every single night on Hallmark. It's just amazing, and I can't believe I didn't watch it until now.
One of the best thing about frasier is: everybody is smart. Martin and Roz aren't university educated or whatever but they're still deviously clever and noone is talked down to or made fun of, or at least everyone is made fun of in equal parts. For all the jokes about Martin not getting upper class stuff there are jokes about frasier and niles' naivety and ignorance of average joe lives.
@NickStedmon haha yeah, like roz and martin have their connections that feaz and niles dont, haha and frsier and niles for geniuses can be damn stupid but at the same time funny haha
I love Kelsey Grammer's character Frasier, but the actor himself seems phony and not a particularly nice guy in real life. I prefer David Hyde-Pierce.
@Catandthespoon It seems strange to me how the character can be so funny but the actor acting in the same way outside of the show comes across as phony. I suppose sometimes fame can ruin a person and maybe that has happened to Kelsey. Also he admits he changed as a result of his sisters tragedy, maybe that change was not so easily reversed?
in looks maybe but he admitted it on a talk show last night and hwe said it before hes a totally diffrent person then frasier hes ore uptight high class not close to him as much
he's flat footed you nerd lol..people who don't have arches do walk differently than others sometimes. and he's always walked like that..it's really not a big deal..wow..way to pick on someone over something so trivial..
I cannot begin to detail how big a fan I am of Frasier!! I have seasons 1-11 and I'm sure I've watched each one several dozen times at this stage!! I've only ever taken a major interest in one other sitcom, and that is Only fools... but even it does not compare to the cutting edge wit and sophistication that oozes from Frasier, aswell as being hilarious! (Such a pity about his past really).
It's so long since I wrote that comment that I had to come back and read it again. Oh yeh I agree he was very good in Cheers also, I have seen it and it's a brilliant show but still... Frasier only came intp his character properly/ fully when he was given his own show. Cheers was aimed at a much broader audience, not everyone 'gets' Frasier!
Yea! I liked how they were able to transition Frasier from Cheers into Frasier in Frasier (lol). Like, how he was different in the Frasier series but still the same ol' Frasier we've known since Cheers.
In Cheers, Frasier was this naive guy that wants to be 'part of the gang' and is up for pretty much anything Norm and Cliff suggested.
@BrannonMcConkey I like Fraiser too but it's not even close lmao.
The Office (UK), Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm - to name but three that are immensely funnier, more daring, more realistic, more honest and more true to life.
@WelshDegenerate Id agree with you on that, but they are a very different style of comedy to frasier. Frasier is by far the funniest and clever "theatre-style" sitcom out there. But totally agree about those three you mentioned. All top class.
@snickaLFC Yeah, it's easily one of the best conventional sitcoms. Ie. laughter track, formatted characters etc. but, it's still comfortable comedy. There's nothing innovative or daring about it, it's just good.
@WelshDegenerate I really don't see Arrested Development as all that wonderful a portrayal of post-juvenile family America or whatever the hell it's meant to be. I haven't caught many episodes so maybe I'm just sheltered on that front, but what is the primary appeal of the show?
Fraiser relies on ludicrosity and sparkling wit. Only The Office and Curb Match it in my opinion. Curb has the most quantitative good material, The Office the most qualitative good material, and Fraiser has...
@owenhunt Only just seen this post. Since you haven't seen 'Arrested Development' properly I don't think you're qualified to debate on it or discuss it properly. Nobody can comment on a show like that until they've immersed themselves in the world.
But I promise you, if you love 'The Office' and 'Curb' then you must GET 'GOOD' comedy. And, 'Arrested Development' will be an extremely rewarding... unbelievably hilarious experience. Watch all three series, start to finish. Then come back.
@owenhunt What does 'Arrested Development' bring to the table? well - firstly, it's intentionally 'clever corny'. It's ironic in its format, by its very nature. It's simply BETTER comedy on many levels than 'Fraiser' is. 'Fraiser' is witty but it's comfortable and enjoyable and... typical. It's not innovative and daring.
'Arrested Development' breaks many conventions, it has distasteful characters and creates a bizarro world in which a totally unique humour exists.
@WelshDegenerate Also - and sorry to have broken into three posts - Frasier deals with pompous characters with mainly playful disdain for all else other than the high life, but disdain nonetheless. The three comedies you mentioned all feature invariably average joes trying to pull through the day. Frasier is inarguably the most daring of any of these sitcoms we've mentioned. It barely got commissioned.
@owenhunt Actually 'The Office' deals with David Brent, a pretentious wannabe fame hog. He's a guy going through a true mid-life crisis and as Gervais puts it, a guy in "free fall". He's much harder to swallow (lmao, sorry about that pun) than Fraiser. Because Fraiser is likeable. Fraiser may be pompous but he's self-aware, rational, considered and caring. Where as Brent is often selfish, self-serving, jealous and petty. As is Larry David. So actually, Fraiser is a more comfortable character.
@owenhunt They are also anything BUT average joes. Leaving 'Arrested Development' out of this continuation as, it's rather unique from the others - Brent and David are not average. David is neurotic, slightly overbearing, overly-analytical etc. etc. and Brent is downright self-deluded and confused. Neither of them are average and Larry David as in, 'on screen' David (but also real life) is also extremely intelligent. He's just not typically upper class in his expression.
everyone use to wait for Frazier to arrive in Cheers, cheers was an even better program after the introduction of frazier. Obviously the guy that directs Frazier directed Cheers also.
I somehow avoided watching Frasier over the years until last year in early 2008 I was thinking that I'm disappointed with TV, there's nothing good to watch anymore.
So I decided what the heck, Frasier looks boring, but I'll try.
After 2 episodes, I was thinking this is pretty good. After 5 or 6 episodes, I was thinking, Wow! This show is incredible!
I've watched every show in the last year, all eleven seasons. I'm now watching reruns and still loving it. Kelsey Grammer is amazing!
Exactly the same here. 2008 my eyes were opened! After years of watching Friends re-runs...I found something that surpasses ANYTHING else I have watched. I'm just annoyed that I didn't find it earlier!
Just to join the pool - exact thing happened to me. I'm a late Frasier bloomer but love every minute of it! Always saw it on TV but thought what a bunch of snotty guys. Watched an episode at a writing class I was taking, several episodes later was hoooked big time! I'm on season 10 now and sad there's only a few episodes before I run out of my Frasier fix - never get tired though they f'in crack me up
Today's series compared to Frasier -blah- not even in the same league. Each Frasier etc etc was made to fully entertain the viewer in each and every episode. If you catch current 2009-2011 series (Prison Brake, Scoundrels, etc etc) .... no matter how intriguing the basic story is, the producer cut it up into 10-15 episodes and thinking that I would be dying to see how it goes.
