WOW nice rig! i don't think i'd be able to do one like yours, i know nothing about lifts. when i get an xj (probably around spring, maybe sooner) i want to start out with a 3 inch lift on it. Is it hard to install for someone with no experience, but has a brain and has worked on cars? But knows nothing about suspesion?
@Declipse16 Don´t worry about cherokee´s suspension, lift kits are preety simple to install, just be sure to get enough WD-40 for those rusty pieces, and be careful with " Death wobble ", it appears when you upgrade these kind of suspensions, just be sure that all tie-rod ends are in perfect shape and the track bar too, good luck!
@Declipse16 No problem my friend!, by the way, my e-mail is topic4x4@gmail.com if ican help u more just ask! cheers from the east coast of México. in a few days, i´ll make a slide show of my cherokee´s "resurrection" hehe, don´t miss it, and coment please. take care!
@Declipse16 Right on, someone with a brain and who has worked on vehicles should have no problems, the XJ suspension is pretty basic and old school...Just start oil soaking all the old rusted pieces now, lifting a Jeep, the biggest trouble you will run into is getting the old rusted components off, also, use ratchet straps or something to hold your axle in place when you remove control arms, it can be a fight to pull it back into place if not...Best of luck!!
@PirateJeep If you want a real man's Cherokee, then you get an XJ or an old SJ; if you are an old woman looking for comfort, then you get a Grand Cherokee! Nice song, by the way.
Depends on the mood man. sometimes these idiots get to me, besides I'm proud of our peaceful country and I will stand up when someone insults it!
It's the American media that always refers to things as the American way and I've heard so many times it being said that "owning a gun is an American right". My bad if I offended you.
Ya there are a lot of rookie vids where people need to lower their pressure, but look at his rig.... He's not a ROOKIE! obviously he will know how to manage his tires!
I don't know what Dave is running but I assure you it is no more than 5 to 10 lbs at the very most...it is very hard to tell in videos if a person is aired down, I get these stupid comments all the time, it gets annoying!
please, if he aired down to 10 psi, his tires would look flat. not to mention, he doesnt have bead locks. with out bead locks, at 10 psi his bead would pop right off...
Just out of curiousity, what would you air down to??
I run 5 psi in my tires when I rock crawl and 8 on any other trail with NO beadlocks and yet to pop a bead. At 10 lbs my tire wouldn't even bulge on the sides.
impressed with what the vehicle and driver can do... just a shame that you didn't stay on an established trail - but busted up a bunch of virgin forest. Shame on you!
the tracks left in virgin forest will be 100% gone in a year, whereas a trail is always there and always tore up and ugly...not to mention it was a "go anywhere challenge" go ANYWHERE...not go on a trail challenge
It's OK, I love my Jeep && My haters too. I know what Hummers are, I'm not the moron you think I am, it's called making fun of them, in case you're incompetent. Which I'm making the assumption you are.
I've been wheelin longer than you've been alive and it's ass holes like you that go off the trail and run over the foliage and get the trails closed, nice jeep but you are a DICK!!!
That's a pretty ignorant comment considering you have no idea where we are wheeling and not knowing that we are on private land at a BIG off-road event, especially for a grown man that's 42 and his favorite hobby is "Lego", his favorite movie is "Pokemon",
BTW, I'm two years older than you and twice as mature!
My apologies for hubby. See, all of our wheeling trails ( Rubicon in particular)are in danger of being closed due to people ignoring the rules, mainly young twenty somethings that don't think the rules apply to them. You r lucky to have some private land to have such fun on. We are slowly losing all our rock crawling here in California, and hubby made the wrong assumption. Again, sorry, and KEEP WHEELIN!
Almost all of our trails on the East coast are shut down. Its really sad. But you drive around and there are hundreds of neighborhoods that are not completed. They take the land and destroy it.
sweet xj! have fun wheelin fellas, need a v8 tho, Im doin a 350 swap into mine as we speak, will be posting how to's when im done, watch for it, should be a sick xj when done...
They all have straight six's except for this jeep which I'm guessing it has or at least had an AMC v6 as the first xj adapted from the wagoneer platform did. A straight 4cyl is also available although not very common. This guy probably swapped his amc out for a newer I6 design as most guys do for both power and reliability.
can some one please tell me the process in which you can do the open back on the jeep cuz I have the same jeep lifted an all, just haven't done the back space remodel yet
4.5 is the biggest lift you can get even with that you need wider flares to fit 33's on their but over 4.5 you need a couple more components that will run you about another 500 bucks, but its worth it.
if you're gonna go with 33's then yes you should regear it. if you try to take it on the highway it'll kill you're gas mileage and you'll run way too high. you've got 3.07's in it right now. i would go up to 3.55's or maybe even 3.85's just to cover your ass.
Jeeprock3 you should be fine with a stock motor i have a 88 xj and its got a 4.5in lift with 31x12.50 super swamper TSL radials and all i have is a header and K&N filter
Hi there , nice vid , i just have a question i have a jeep xj 4.0 6 cylinder stock,
was wondering if i just bought a lift kit say 4 inch suspension and 32-33 inch tires would i need to do any regearing of my axles or "beef" them up? and is there anything else i should be concerned about? your help would be great, thanks
Depending on whether you have a manual transmission and what year your jeep is you have either 3.07's or 3.55's. The 3.55's arent bad with 31's at all, and I have ran both 32's and 33's with stock gearing. (Mine has 3.55's) as said below it will hurt your gas mileage, but other than that it is manageable. I actually managed to get my mileage up to 22 HWY with 33's and stock gears simply by drafting 18-wheelers, when I would usually get 12. So just drive smart.
As a ture XJ lover I've gotta say... you're Jeep is a work of art!! Everyone needs to quit worrying about whats too big or too small, and just get out there and drive...
dude, ur jeep is cool and all but its too big.. its not as much of a challenge... i do this stuff and more with an xj with 32s and 5.5 lift... pin up a more hard core video
Why do you have a 5.5 inch lift to run 32's? Not necessary. I ran 32's on my XJ with a 3" lift and I'm about to be running 35's on a 4'5" lift. Don't talk about peoples rigs being too big when yours is too big for it's own tire size.
Its really not as drastic as it sounds. Think about it like this the 4.5" kit recommends a 32" tire, and a 35" is only 3" taller. Only 1.5" of that are on the upper side interfering with the fenders, so you simply cut 1.5" of sheetmetal away and you're good to go. (Granted you still have the correct bumpstops for your lift size, without those you will rub no matter what size tire you run.)
Those are 42's and they are at half way or better swallowed by those boulders...your 32's would be swallowed , and 90% of your day would be spent stacking rocks ...LOL
Dude, you mus be a rock star!!!...we had a couple XJ's on 33's and 35's there this year that couldn't even get to this part of the trail...btw, it's not my Jeep in the vid but you won't get in there without atleast 35's...it would get trashed, I would certainly attempt it but I'm nutz!(after wheeling my TJ on 33's for 3 years it's taking a year to rebuild...lol)
Oh, and for not having the gear reduction that is normally needed for this kind of rock-crawling, he did one hell of a good job! Awesome!
