This is the thing, 360 has a way better GPU, Ps3 has a way better CPU. But we dont know if the 360's cpu can actually process as much as the GPU can handle, so thats why you can really only base graphics power from the CPU

I know it's kind of a cliche' argument, but I'd like to see the PS3 process Crysis. I've seen tech demos of Crysis 2 (Which is far more optimized and far less pretty) on the PS3 and it was quite pathetic.

Maybe you heard somewhere that the Cell-Engine isnt that powerful because of its limited double-precision (ie. "double") capability - thats, of course, nonsense because its single-precision (ie. "float") capabilitys are extremely high - "double-operations" can easily achieved through running multiple float-operations in sequence

But, like I said before, no developer wants to code their games specifically for the Cell processor because it would take too much of any dev. team's resources. Aside from the developers of Uncharted 1 and 2, which have a specific "deal" with Sony (Which is the exception).

Additionally, you forget that the GPU in the PS3 is extremely weak. That's another reason why you couldn't run Crysis on the PS3, it's a huge bottleneck.

68 Shader-Giga-OPS is'nt quite what one would call "extremely weak" - its about 1/4 of the CPU-performnace (peak) which is - from the viewpoint of computer-architecture - weird but not "weak" or even "poor".

But you are right in the fact that not many developers are eager to develop specifically for the PS3 ... which is the true weaknes of this console - Sony should've made a console which is more compatible to standards ...

More processing cores doesn't equal a faster all around processor. If I remember correctly, each of those cores is pretty slow.

I'm not saying that the Cell processor is slow, it's just for different things as a Quad core processor beings sold now. For example, you'd never see a cell processor running an actual operating system like WIndows or an the Apple equivalent, because the processor architecture does allow for such processing.

Like I said, different uses. But, in the end, a Core i7 or Q6700 can do more and is more powerful. Because it can be used for more purposes. That too, and you don't have to developer a console or computer around the specific processor, like you do with the Cell-processor, thus adding to the lack of purpose.
