@1001Ike1 Meredith Monk's work doesn't strive to interpret Cage's music in any way! Cage's work was exploring small sounds and making the familiar unfamiliar in order to perceive it as music instead of just "noise." Monk's work explores the integration of movement and sound, especially pre-lingual sound, so it seems ridiculous to me to compare the two, and to essentialize Monk's work as an extension of Cage, when she has pioneered her own art.
@1001Ike1 Interestingly Meredith will be performing selections from Cage's Song Books with Joan LaBarbara and Jessye Norman with Michael Tilson Thomas/San Francisco Symphony this March in SF, Ann Arbor and at Carnegie Hall in NY. First time performing any of his work in YEARS!
Awesome!!

Big fan of John Cage. Monk is one of the best interpreters of Cage music.
