  • American legend

  • I'm 47 years old and have been to many, many concerts through the years, but Bob Seger is absolutely one of the best. I saw him in 1980 at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana, and he gave an amazing performance that night. He played well beyond two hours, something band's today sure don't do.

  • Unvergesslich schöne Songs, thank you Bob:-))))

  • I saw Bob Seger for the first time in Seattle one week after I returned from Iraq. Couldn't think of a better to show to see. Played all his classics and sounded great!

  • I,v partied there in the 60/70s ! used to be a big teen hangout and party spot ! Its south of Pontiac if I remember right.

  • Wow he sounds FANTASTIC live

  • This is a great early look at Seger, he had so much charisma and raw talent ... he owned a room as soon as he walked into it no doubt ... Who wants to play those eights and aces?

  • who can blame uncle joe? fire lake sounds like a pretty awesome place! I wanna go to fire lake!

  • When you can't understand Bobs lyrics it's time to kill your self

  • Not the same w/out Don and Glenn. Fire Lake is hell! Isn't it obvious?

  • Why do you think Fire Lake is hell? Like the lake of fire eh? I can see where you are coming from with Don and Glenn.

  • Way cool !!

  • he has not been given the respect for

    his songwriting and musical talent...

  • Can ANYONE tell me what this song is about? PLEASE!!

Whats a Chrome 3 wheeler? What are the bronze beauties? WHAT IS FIRE LAKE?

I'm playin this song and dont know what I'm singing about...

    Anyone help out here?

  • Possibilities:

    Fire Lake -any place a little wild, off the charts, something different;

    chrome 3 wheeler -a motorcycle reference (also the leathers);

bronz beauties -pretty people in CA? Or, a geographical reference?

Uncle Joe-afraid to cut the cake---make a committment/marriage. Bascially, I think he is singing about turning away from all you know and have; even if you seem to have it all, to do something you've always dreamed of doing. One of my favorite songs; still timely

  • During an interview after album release, he said the song was about risk takers. Who is next to take a long shot gamble? Uncle Joe was the relative that we all know who seemed content to live out his comfortable life. One day he unexpectedly took a risk to pursue a dream and went off to Fire Lake. Bronze beauties are tanned beach babes alluring temptation. Eights and aces is the dead mans hand from Hickoks assassination. A stake is a loan or gift to someone. I hope this helps.

  • Thanks man. Thats the best explanation I've gotten and makes the most since. So I'm thinking that Fire Lake IS an ACTUAL place that Unc took off to....? Not a metaphor for something else. If so, that would make the song even catchier..

    Cool song no doubt...

  • @Bchtz Thanks, BTW I think stake- in this respect- is more like an object at risk in a game or contest. As in - He staked his fortune on eights and aces.

  • @tomcthompsonjr

8's and aces is a deadmans hand its called that cause thats what Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot down from behind

  • @zim1966 Thanks zim, I know that. I was explaining the use of the word- stake.

  • Fire Lake is Hell.

The back up singers look great but do not sound so great!

Good thing Uncle Joe was not cutting the cheese either.

  • my favorite song by him.

  • not bad song at all!! especialy on 'Nine Tonight' -album, cheers! :) Hollyood might b my fav anyays...Takes me back...

  • Who wants to break the news about uncle joe??ha ha ha......

  • Who wants to do it?

    Who's gonna do it?

One of the best storytellers/lyricists of our time...

  • saw bob and r.e.o, in the summer of 80 @ the louisville summer jam i was 14 then and crazy about both bands..over 80.000 people there it was awsome...still love ya bob ...thanks for being in my generation of music couldnt of growed up with out ya..oxox

  • Gosh is he one handsome S.O.B.! Sheesh!

Fiercely talented and handsome to boot!

    :o) Yeah Bob!

  • I do, I do!!!!!!

  • Dude he looks so happy.Right on,who wants to make that first mistake...all the way to fire lake.

  • seger just rocks...it's what he does. it's what he was born to do.

  • seger is just right...

  • bob seger and the silver bullet band~live~lots of memories with the family listening to that, bob IS classic rock that will never die!

  • stigmaweb....poker

  • Could anyone tell me what these passages means. I don't know if i'm correct because I am not an English speaker:

Who what to place those eights and aces (Cards??)

Who needs a raise (Better salary???)

    Who needs a stake (Stocks/bonds???)

who wants to take that long-shot gamble: (Lottery/Bingo)????

  • yup

  • Well eights and aces are the dead mans hand in cards. Wild Bill Hickock was shot in the back while holding those cards. I thank he means to die while trying to get rich the easy way. Who Wants a raise, who needs a stake.(rich persons food) That money is it something you really need is what that means. Who wants to take that long-shot gamble relates to the first line being about gambling and means is it worth the risk.

  • aces and 8s also known as the dead man's hand

the last hand held by Wild Bill Hickock when he was shot in the back of the head aka dead mans hand.

Raise is raise the amount of your bet in poker

Stake is what you have bet in the game of poker

Long shot gamble is when the odds are against you winning but if you win you win BIG

  • aces and eights are a low odds starting hand in poker.

    raise...yes, a larger stake.

    stake is a bet.

long shot gamble is a very low odds bet

  • I don't ever want to go to Fire Lake, EVER!

  • Anybody notice the dudes in the leotards?? Those are men, I'm sorry.

  • Fire Lake!!! Ahh, the memories!!

  • Excuse my language but,The baddest Mother Fucker to ever pick up a mic.Period.I seen him live at Cobo in the late 70's It does'nt get any better than this maN....

  • i love his music with his sultry voice

  • I love this song. It was part of my life as a kid. It was on the jukeboxes and I would pick it out every time a quarter was received. This is one of the songs that are just "burned into my mind."

  • BEST. SONG. EVER. Long live SEGER...I mean it boys and girls!

  • after ridin that chrome three wheeler, reallygonecat was the first mistake.

  • No one wants to ride a chrome three wheeler. No one.

  • grow up, may one day you can ride with the big boys

  • may one day you can achieve literacy above a fourth grade level

  • Anytime you want a ride on my trike let me know... you will change your mind very quickly.

  • I remain unconvinced.

  • i'd ride Bob's chrome three wheeler. If he asked me to.

  • i was at this concert at the capital center, just outside of wash.dc.

  • WHO WANTS TO RIDE THAT CHROME 3 WHEELER

  • POOR AUDIO QUALITY.

  • great song i love it

  • this is a great song...one of his top 5 for my tastes

  • Joe's run off to Fire lake...

  • 2:54......"aaah Largo, MD!!!!" yeah baby!

  • Even with the am recording his unique voice shines through.

  • hey boston badboy, u dont like this am version , listen to the raw voice u fukkin moron

  • Someone please post the studio version of this song with The Eagles on backup vocals.

  • This is one of Bob's 3 best tunes- Seger's a true living rock music treasure. I saw him in concert in 2007 and it was absolutely sublime.
