@cupido4amor why should you react to it more just because of the color of the skin of the person playing it? It is this internal bias that we Indians seem to have, appreciating people more just because they are from a different culture.
@bitethis47 Big deal is that some people are born so narrow minded,...and others (majority) appreciate foreigners showing interest and getting involved in their culture and tradition..its a good feeling
@worldwellwisher he may have genuine interest in the instrument, even if he doesnt really understand it.. however i find it quite unfair that MORE talented people dont get to be as popular as him in youtube.
@worldwellwisher its the same kind of sadness i get when i see a video of jimi hendrix or radio head getting only a few thousand views and a video of justin biber hitting 100 millions views.
@Khalilullah Have some respect that someone foreign is trying to adopt another culture, another country's music... even if his vocalizing rhythm doesn't sound like the original, so what? Musically, he makes much more sense. Be appreciative man!
@satyajitsahu "Musically, he makes more sense" ?!?!? It only makes more sense to you because this guy plays like a beginner, and you listen like one. The reason that this style of drumming is respected and imitated is because it, not bad copies like this, are very highly developed. I'm appreciative of the real thing; bad copies like this guy that show off on stages and try to pawn off crap to the ignorant piss me off. There are standards, no matter where you come from.
Seriously go to the interiors of Malaysia and you will see genuine Thavil players with no training what so ever play with their heart and soul. The speed is intense and compares to nothing.
i love indian percussion...tabla and thavil i prefer...
in tiruvannamalai always i see peolpe playing the thavil with nadhaswaram and it is really devotional...i'd like to learn thavil but in tiruvannamalai there are no teachers...
wow, neva thought i'd see the day i see a non-tamil play the melam. well dont to the guy playing it... and i dont know the terms, but he recited the music also ("thakita thakka" etc.)_
nice playing techniques...i would like to inform you that this drum/thavil should not have been played with your shoes on. Just remeber that next time you play. otherwise nicely done. :D
cool.i apriciate that you worked very well to say the sylables as well while playing and they are clear too.i can see the hard work to get it right and the problems in terms of pronciation while you learn.keep it up.indian youngstars should learn how to sell it as well.
Goose bumps all over my body hearing the sound and seeing a white playing it.

@Naveen27200 Not just tamil, but Malayalam as well, some of the best thavil artists come from Kerala, I believe this guy was trained in Kerala.

@MrBharanish That is absolutely true. Kerala was originally dominated by Cherans and Pandians. The old Tamil culture still exists in Kerala.
