I like the instrument Keith is working with. Looks like primitive computer. So cool. Did a good job. Reminds me of something I've read about Benjamin Franklin and the instrument he invented. It made sounds by wetting his fingers and applying them to different size glass discs while the shaft rotated. What is it called? I forgot.
as you said...this and hip hop are worlds apart...ouer 40 years...and the stones still are rolling along...hip hoppers are euen commentating on them in this thread...that says a lot about the current state of music...the stones will still be here when hip hop has faded into the dust like a lot of fads haue....the stones keith, brian, bill, charley the micks etc.not to mention their current guitarist whose name excapes me at the moment..but he and you know who I mean...they will be here foreuer
this, and hip hop are a world apart. this "the stones" are still here... being listened to and talked about. Hip hop will only be like many other fads, gone and forgotten. The Stones will remain foreuer and euer amen..(sorry about the "U"'s)
Very cool film! I used to collect Stones memorabilia. This I have never seen. Apparently from Italian Broadcasting. Looks like they were making a promo for Street Fighting Man, my guess is Mick was going to be super-imposed over war footage, and violent protests. The way Micks hair and groovy suit looks, I would say it was the Fall of '68. Very rare find indeed! Thanks for posting it!
I RATHER LIKE SEEING MICK IN THIS HISTORICAL BUT TOTALLY NON-CREATIVE VIDEO - MAKE THIS PRESENTATION REALLY RARE AND POST THE PICTURE SLEEVE FOR THE U.S. ISSUE SINGLE. NOW THAT'S RARE! DAVEDJ
I know, to each their own..but consider the best hip hop to probably the worst (if there is such a thing) of the Rolling Stones and the Stones win hands down....
"The worst of The Stones"...After '94 there's a big choice of crap, won't even mention Michael's solo escapades. I dislike todays (c)rap just as much as you, still there are some interesting things to be found ,check out early Cypress Hill ,Grandmaster Flash and 70's Jamaican toasters. All music, done with conviction & soul ,has my vote.
@Hellishcrusade It's the corporate approach.Rock as an art form probably should have died a natural death .But thanks to advances in research (market)-it's being kept alive by artificial means !
@Stonings, after so long on site i'd never seen this before! i wasn't looking, obviously. I was sceptical at first if it was Jagger, but i referenced it, and yes, GREAT VIDEO/POST
rebel music is real hip hop, not the candy corporate crap hop hop like 50 cent, Snopp or Jay Z but the realists like the Wu, Badu, Moss etc. Corporate crap has always existed, John Denver, The Osmonds, Carpenters, Kenny Loggins, Lady Gagga etc..
Rebel music never takes prisoners because rebellions are always explosive
Did you know that Street Fighting Man was released on single (with No Expectations on the flip) in the summer of '68 on the European continent? It was a big nr 1 hit in Germany, at least the Germans could recognize a good song.
I can understand the negative US reaction and censorship, this was 1968, Bobby Kennedy and MLK were dead, shortly after its release the brutal chicago riots and others elsewhere, street fighting man touched a much different chord in america then in germany. Fantastic song though.
@buthabuthe - and there were student riots in France that year too. Very scary for Europe. The Stones either saw them coming or helped them along. Where are the rebels today?
@myradioon We're all in our 60's and worn out ,dead or sold out......when the real end comes ,and it's hurtling down the pike, the new generation will be too busy twittering and obsessing over trifles to even feel it. Suddenly it'll just all go dark. Rebellion and pretest are a luxury that only the youth can afford, today's youth are mindless, jobless and just don't give a fuck.
Kieth's like "I know how to work this." (Whispers) "I don't know how to work this."

Knowing Keith, he's writing a great riff based hit for the beings on the green desert sands of Aldebaran.

Funny to see Keith Richards playing with the modular synth... He changes patches, but I don't think the sound comes from his playing...

Interesting to see this audition tape of Michael trying to enroll in Lindsay Kemp's mime school, where David Bowie had just been admitted.
Keef coming to gripps with an early M©©G....fascinating.
Although I thought so.,that was no M.Faithfull at the end.

That's right man - Most of these so-called rockstars now days go back their hotel rooms, drink bottled water, and go to bed.
They;re as boring as shit ...in a field of shit.
Nothing to say 'bout nothin' ...'cos they know shit 'bout nothin' else.
