Can you not say 'God' on American television? How bizarre! The irony is the superior version is of course Kate's, and if she was auditioning on a program like this, she'd never get through. thankfully she wouldn't touch this stuff with a barge pole and her art and integrity are intact and she's still making albums her own sweet way now for over 30 years, I doubt any of Cowell's stable will last as long, it's about short term gain and money, not real talent.
A polished performance that was easily one of the best of the season. I think it was one of the best I've ever heard on the show period. Mike is a very talented guy. The ballads he sang while playing the acoustic guitar were very tasteful as well. America dropped the ball regarding Mike but that's never a surprise. Take a look at what just happened to Pia this past week. Without a doubt the most naturally gifted singer on the show and she's gone. An absolute shame. The show will suffer for it.
Awesome lyrics, awesome vocals ... I can feel he's really proud of his kid and wife, and as a woman who biggest dream is having a baby, gotta say I kinda feel like Kara.

To sing a cover of it that's even worthy is incredible. It was destined to bomb, but Mike took care of business here. The judges said it all. I had my doubts about big Mike. This put them to rest. He keep it low and at the end he went in to higher notes the way he arranged the song was krafty and made it work for him , but I would like to hear a male do it in false voice all the way from start to finish , like sylvester R.I.P these Gong shows is ok but real artist we see rarely anymore.

This is the worst top 4 of this season, and some of the biggest upsets. Idol lost a ton of votes when Siobhan got bumped off. Casey over Katie and Siobhan? Unfortunately, the fan base is three quarters young girls voting strictly for the Casey and Lee types. As a result, we lose great female talents. My guess is between Mike and Crystal.
Im going to make an acusation here... I propose...someone or some organization has found a way to manipulate the voting system!!!! I dont know a lot about computors , but im willing to bet, someone has found a way to use random numbers to be called from a computor or system to rig the vote ......motive??? ....money!! probably some sort of betting scam ?? A Michael Lynche fan is going to be someone a bit older, into adult contemporary, etc. They are not the type who will sit & vote for 2 hours. They have other things to do. A Tim Urban fan is a high school girl who will vote repeatedly. It beats doing homework. Really, it's that simple. That having been said, he should not have been saved by the judges. His singing style is just not that distinctive or interesting.

@brettotrx I'm usually cynical, but if it was really fixed why did noncommercial people end up as big winners (Ruben Stoddard and Taylor Hicks), and big sellers such as Daughtry & Clay Somebody end up losing? (Don't know all the names, sorry) Doesn't make sense. I think there was also a winner named Fantasia who went nowhere. As for this season, Lilly was the best performer BY FAR and she is long gone. It's not fair, but it's not fixed. It's just how people feel at the moment and who votes.

@brettotrx Thank for the clarification. Anytime you have money riding on a competition, you have the possibility that someone will try to manipulate (or "fix") the outcome. American Idol just counts the votes that come in; where the votes come from, or why the votes are cast, are beyond their control. Therefore, like I said, you cannot expect the results to be "fair". I guess we are basically saying the same thing.

@brettotrx As to Michael. I don't know the actual votes from prior shows. He might have been close to the bottom 3 before this week. This week his performance was not as good as prior shows (that's according to Simon . . . do you agree?) ; therefore he probably got less votes than before. The teenagers tend to vote for their favorite whether they have a strong performance or not. The adults may be more "honest" about their votes.
W/e about kara - she is sort of trying 2 b Paula but maybe she was being genuine. I liked the performance but I felt like I couldn't really understand what he was saying.
Genuine or not, Kara was a bit obnoxious. Everyone always expects the female judge to be overly sensitive, so when they actually are, then it's a bit obnoxious.
Also, leaning all over Simon was in bad taste. You can see how uncomfortable Ellen looked. She has (jokingly) mentioned on her show that Simon and Kara talk a lot during the performances and she doesn't know what they're saying but she knows "that kara is married and simon has a girlfriend."
I have to say that was good, the original song was great as well as maxwells I think Maxwells live cover on mtv unplugged in the summer around 96 0r 97 was incredible cause thats a song by a woman and for a man to create the emotion of womans song is powerful listen to what Simon said thats a hard song to sing even if you do it your own way like Big mike did

For me, the performance was good I wouldnt cry over it however there has been songs that have made me emotional for reasons others would not understand ...

For those who aren't impressed with this vocal, may I suggest you watch it at least twice. He starts with a pure falsetto, moves effortlessly into his head tone, then rocks it for a bit, then holds that pure belt and finishes with a crystal clear note that even Randy couldn't believe. You don't catch all that the first time around.
The thing about Big Mike is he's a good performer but his voice is so common. There are a lot of artists with that same tone as he does. If this song were playing on the radio, I wouldn't even know who's singing it. Technically, he's an OK singer but there were some off-key moments there (listen carefully before you protest). As to Kara, please spare me -- I've heard and seen more moving performances than this.

(Don't know all the names, sorry) Doesn't make sense. I think there was also a winner named Fantasia who went nowhere. As for this season, Lilly was the best performer BY FAR and she is long gone. It's not fair, but it's not fixed. It's just how people feel at the moment and who votes.

@brettotrx Also, if it was fixed and they wanted Michael off the show, why did they save him?? That one really makes no sense whatsoever. My take on who is left: Lee and Shioban are the best singers. Andrew is talented but seems lost. Casey and Crystal have appeal, but their routine is getting very predictable. Michael, for me, is boring, and nothing special. The remaining teen-aged contestants have no business being there . .kids are voting to keep them on.

@brettotrx Thank for the clarification. Anytime you have money riding on a competition, you have the possibility that someone will try to manipulate (or "fix") the outcome. American Idol just counts the votes that come in; where the votes come from, or why the votes are cast, are beyond their control. Therefore, like I said, you cannot expect the results to be "fair". I guess we are basically saying the same thing.

@brettotrx I respect your choices of performers remaining,although I have a little problem with lee ..to me, his only solid performance was last wk,he tends to be either nervous or...maybe {vocally] lazy?? not sure about that one?even if you dont like michael,youd have to agree, his vocal performances have been very solid[compared at least to the "questionable's" remaining in the show.

@brettotrx As to Michael. I don't know the actual votes from prior shows. He might have been close to the bottom 3 before this week. This week his performance was not as good as prior shows (that's according to Simon . . . do you agree?) ; therefore he probably got less votes than before. The teenagers tend to vote for their favorite whether they have a strong performance or not. The adults may be more "honest" about their votes.

Genuine or not, Kara was a bit obnoxious. Everyone always expects the female judge to be overly sensitive, so when they actually are, then it's a bit obnoxious.
Also, leaning all over Simon was in bad taste. You can see how uncomfortable Ellen looked. She has (jokingly) mentioned on her show that Simon and Kara talk a lot during the performances and she doesn't know what they're saying but she knows "that kara is married and simon has a girlfriend."

I thought it was real though maybe there was a bit of anger mixed in because of Simon´s comment...But she really seemed touched and maybe she wanted to come across as such so she doesnt seem as a cold b.. all the time..and she really isn´t..whoever can write emotional songs like that must be very sensitive.... For me, the performance was good I wouldnt cry over it however there has been songs that have made me emotional for reasons others would not understand ...

For those who aren't impressed with this vocal, may I suggest you watch it at least twice. He starts with a pure falsetto, moves effortlessly into his head tone, then rocks it for a bit, then holds that pure belt and finishes with a crystal clear note that even Randy couldn't believe. You don't catch all that the first time around.

The thing about Big Mike is he's a good performer but his voice is so common. There are a lot of artists with that same tone as he does. If this song were playing on the radio, I wouldn't even know who's singing it. Technically, he's an OK singer but there were some off-key moments there (listen carefully before you protest). As to Kara, please spare me -- I've heard and seen more moving performances than this.
