@ps2peter it is still bad. my cousin is a police officer and he does the aston villa and birmingham matches and there are still clashes there now. they have to escort the away fans to the train station using 100's of officers. which i find disgusting.

here in NZ we have football and rugby matches and there are never any police. the odd few that are there are looking for traffic and parking violations mainly.

the mentality of fans here is totally different. no trouble just good family fun.

I was in England 1996 and it was risky to wear an Germany shirt in an english pub. But to wear an England shirt in your own country. I don't know. This is not the first story from England where normal ppl think w.t.f. happened to the free country England. There was a guy last EC that had an Israel flag and some "Asians" were insulted by that. The ban is pretty lame. In America, we deal with immigrants who show their country pride all of the time, sometimes to the point of extremism. However, half the time an American shows their pride, they're accused of being racist or xenophobic.

As far as race is concerned, I'm only a somewhat patriotic American, but being predominantly black, there's a history of why. If I was English however, seeing the overall good treatment of Black Brits, I would definitely have more pride for England!
