I'm looking into buying a new amp, valve probably, and have spent too much time this evening looking at demos such as this - cliched blues and 'rock' riffs played by a salesman - never sounds like anything I would play, don't get me wrong, they are better players than me, but they all sound the same, and so do their products. :\
Actually there a several amp manufacturers that have all hand wired stuff cheaper than line 6. Especially if you throw in a Line 6 HD processor to control the amp. And I also think you are incorrect about the line 6 having an all analog pathway. I know for a fact it uses relays, it has midi so it has to use algorithms to switch the analog components. Not to mention very inferior transformers, caps etc...But if you like it and it works for you than kudos. No rules to sounding good.
Why do people keep identifying this as something that isn't "the real thing?" It's a tube amp. It's not a digital amp. It's got power tubes, it's got pre amp tubes. It's as much the "real thing" as any Blues Junior, albeit expensive but deals can be had.
@Maxx61 If you heard it next to a nice hand wired amp, with a nice transformer you would here a huge difference. Not to mention the hand wired amp would be easier and probably cheaper to repair. It also would hold up better, and hold it's value better IMO.
@scguitarist apples to apples. The DT 25 isn't hand wired. I suspect if it was, it would cost more. A LOT MORE. It's a tube amp. Whether or not it will sound as nice as another tube amp that costs twice as much is not what Line 6 is concerned about here, not I suspect potential buyers. Nobody is cross shopping these with Dr. Z's.
I have owned hand wired amps in the past. I bought one of these amps and they are fantastic...I'd be happy to put it up against most other amps and say that it holds its own.
Bogner is no fool and wouldn't be putting his name on something cheap and nasty.
@scottyluvsguitar This amp is full of circuit boards and relay switches. Circuit boards are plastic/fiberglass that don't conduct electricity as well as hand wired point to point amps. Circuit boards wear out, and when they do it costs almost as much as your amp did initially. And if you think it will stand up to a fargen, suhr, or other quality amp, I challenge you to compare them for yourself in a studio situation. I assure you they will stomp all over this line 6 amp.
@scguitarist i owned 3 bogner shivas and they were complete junk. Bogner also likes to use relays for switching channels. All three of mine failed within 3 months of having them. I am a full time musician (since 1989) and i play over 250 shows a year. For me hand wired amps have been way more dependable, cheaper to fix and no question sound better than the common circuit board amps. I have tried them all. Comparing the DT 25 to a nice hand wired amp is like comparing an electric car to a ferrari.
@scguitarist If the DT 25 works for you great, and i will say the line 6 offers more versatility than most hand wired amps, but you really do compromise overall tone for that. Just mathmatically speaking if you crunch the actual numbers of frequency response and conductivity you will see the numbers speak for themselves. It is scientific fact that hand wired amps have better freq. response than a circuit board amp. Line 6 are digital replications, replications are never as good as real thing.
I appreciate you know nothing about me or the studio work I have done, but please understand that I am not some ignorant git that has never played through such amps. Anyway I'l leave it at that.
I think that the technology is great, but when are we going to stop being excited about making things sound like they did 50 years ago? Is that progress? A guitar modeler to an effects modeler to and amp modeler. What is so bad about the real thing?
@timelmore2 1st up, why progress when the old stuff sounds the best? in a way modeling is progress, we can now have very similar sounds for less than a quarter of the price. This stuff isn't as good as the real thing, but it provides for people who cant afford to spend $2000 on an amp which may not be what they want... and it allows musicians to have versatility on the stage and be able to experiment in the recording studio. our creativity is not limited by money anymore.
@timelmore2 The real thing is for people w/ money/time to spare to buy 1 low watt tube amp for bedroom levels, and higher wattage tube rigs for practice/gigs. I find very disappointing the lack of technological development. The "real thing" is always a 1 trick pony, and very expensive, and the "fake" thing is still expensive if you want it to sound decent. It's 2012, a guitar amp shouldn't cost twice as much as a guitar. Due to the cult of the Vintage, we're stuck with bad value...indefinitely.
Mighty interesting... Since I've been to school on tubes - somewhat - I imagine the EL84s will naturally do clean and crunchy better than the DT50's inherently more efficient, darker and punchier EL34s. It's weird thinking of them as mere conduits through which pass R. Bogner's and other engineers' versions of a wide variety of tubes. Loved the Jimi - Trower - Stevie licks, maybe even a little Dave Lenat in there? The first few minutes are killer. The suit is hipster cute, btw, keep it!
Amp sounds OK . .it's half a dt50 . .should be half the price but it's not . . . the guys' goatee blends into his tie when he drops his head . .lol . .sweet playing dude. Kudos for the jacket and tie . . .
@DrRussPhd it should definately not be half the price. its got everything the dt50 has but low wattage and different tubes. its alot smaller to lug around and you can pair it with a 1x12 cab so its pretty much a bargain for what youre getting

You should focus more on the amp not on the POD HD. We never know where is the sound coming from...

i wanted a demo of the AMP without any pedals and a normal guitar!

Not really, half the wattage doesn't necessarily mean half the volume, or half the tone, the only thing that is hugely different is the headroom.
