a literal trans. to 'ubi caritas et amor deus ibi est' is 'where charity and love (are), god is there'. a literal for just 'ubi caritas' is then 'where charity'.

a more friendly translation, still closer to original is 'ubi caritas' meas 'where there is charity'.

the more common translation says 'where there is love', i think just cause its prettier to say that.

note that 'charity' does not mean 'giving things' - in this context, it means charity in the sense of 'care'

pure and wonderful, I'm jewish and i adore this song and connie dover, the basic translation of this christian prayer is "were there is charity and love god is there", thats true for all living beings no matter the religion race or species, I hope that soon will come the day of harmony that we all actually live this truth - ALL THERE IS, IS ONE CONSCIOUSNESS, THAT IS GOD. music is a golden bridge and artists like the graceful connie dover are messengers to us all, blessings from israel.

@punchfan In my version, as I found it long ago, it reads "nos sincero"; and also there's no "j" -which I think it didn't exist in Latin-, so it says "iucundemur" and "iurgia". The rest of the song is: "Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Simul quoque cum beatis videamus. Glorianter vultum tuum, Christe Deus.
