Born and raised in the Falls, 600 block of Chilton till I was 10, then Walnut and 13th when I joined the service in 64, havent been home in 11 yrs........Very dismayed by what I see in this video.......recognised many of the buildings

Wow! When I visited a couple of years ago with my family. We only went to the park area, on the Maid of the Mist and near the Falls(on the NY side). I didn't know that the rest of the area was like this. We enjoyed our trip so much we considered moving there. Now that I see this-it makes Rochester look like Paris, France.

the entire city isn't like this. I lived there in very nice, well kept neighborhoods, nice homes. there are still nice neighborhoods and nice homes. Many have expanded to the outskirts.

Niagara falls is where I was born met my wife where my son was born where my friends are......lived in NH for 8 years and when I came back stepped off the bus I wanted to cry I wanted to climb back onto that bus and head back to NH but I could not do it. because this is my home..and I have faith it can be great once again....

What they should have done was moved the industry outside of the city instead of directly inside it, AND developed the waterfront. But instead they developed the industry ALONG the waterfront.

niagara falls should have invested in the waterfront not in industry now we are at least 20 years behind what the canadian side has become. I used to live on the other side of hyde park blvd. where its still middle class bet every time i come back i see the slums getting closer. But i will never forget where i came from.

I agree that the Ontario side is more developed in terms of waterfront. You just see where the people hang and which customs crossing is busier. But dont think that the Ont. side is rosy. Just turn on Stanley avenue and head towards the old downtown. You'll be surprised, but its not as run down at least. I cant believe with all the tourism that both sides cannot be looking better than that.

People moved out which left the houses abandoned. And they burned down either because of vandals, homeowners that wanted the insurance money, or homeless that would sleep in them and start a fire in the house to keep warm.

I lived in NF all my life, until about 3years ago and moved to Ft. Lauderdale..NF is never going to the way it once was..all the broken promises of city officals...i still have friends and family there but i will never move back!!! NF is a joke & a DUMP..i use to live in one of the houses in the video

We worked through Hannah House. We hosted a VBS at St. James UMC over by the High School (which is huge, but ive been told they're only 4A), did door to door ministry over in one of the govt housing areas near Hannah House (like 19th St, 21st St, around there) and we had a block party at Gluck Park on that Thursday.

I grew up in Niagara Falls, attended school there. Large parts of what is considered downtown are blighted,but there are stable middle class areas of the city too. Admittedly, those areas are becoming smaller as time goes by. I recognize some of the houses in the video,it wasnt that long ago they were livable,functioning homes. After the mid 1970s, the factories that employed many folks folded up and there was no plan for what would happen next. Corruption and stupidity took care of the rest.

its kinda today i spoke at a meeting for the higland revitalization project and i told the planning board different hings that could be done around the area an i challenged them to do what they say and not become a statistic there is so much oppurtunity for economic development because theres nothing here therefore NO COMPETITION im a student at Penn State and i get tired of defending my hometown we have a word wonder its like come on but fyi some of the buildigns in the vid have been torn down

Wheatfield is not.

I never said Wheatfield was a part of the city, only Lasalle.

And yes there is a "welcome to Niagara Falls" sign when you enter Lasalle. There is one as your enter the city on Niagara Falls Boulevard in front of the Airport, and there is one when you enter Lasalle through River Road which turns into Buffalo Avenue.

First of all, I am white.

Second of all I have seen so many examples of white racism against blacks in this city that I know for a FACT that blacks are held back purposely from suceeding. However the vast majority of blacks in the Falls are still able to make it through all the oppression they faced here.

You really need to educate yourself a little more on the subject, and by the way, Lasalle is considered a part of the city of Niagara Falls.
