@kattcomm The kit lens will give you good pictures but its not that great. But if you are using this camera for the first time it will help you learn the basic techniques like rule of thirds..etc. After you get used to the kit lens, I would recommend you to get the Sony 50mm 1.8. This lens is a fixed portrait type lens. This will give you some amazing results. This lens can be used when you are in a low light situation and also this will give you the Depth of Field effect pro's use.
@kattcomm You can get the Sony 50mm 1.8 at the Sony website for $149.99. Its worth the money!! You are welcome to follow my Fan Page to see some of the pictures I took with this lens. Link is in the description!
@punkjaris thxs! this is a great camera. Nikon and Canon are better cameras if you are thinking to get the High end cameras like Nikon D3s or the Canon 5D Mark ii. If you are just a beginner and want a beginner camera, this is for you. The beginner level cameras such as Sony a230, Canon Rebel T1i, and Nikon D3000 are all the same. You can get Sony a230 for half of the price. You are welcomed to visit my site (LINK IN THE DESCRIPTION) to see recent pictures taken with the Sony a230.
@JJPhotographics -I did get it and it cam in friday.... It's awesome and im using it for my modeling portfolio....I ordered my lighting kit on amazon.com
@igigglezz The Sony alpha 230 has black and white and many other options but i didn't see sepia. You can always do effects with almost any editing programs out there.
