The Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) vehicle and officers as shown in this video are a specialist department of the service. Their primary role is to offer a protective service (not always armed) to foreign embassies, dignitaries and residences. They also look after the UK Prime Minister and other key members of the government.
the only look after the pm in the sence of protection around the properties he is staying at, they offer not physical protection to him or other ministers
@emergencyequip I think I understand what they do (Wikipedia :) But I'm wondering, in what circumstance would they have to be going with blues and twos like that, besides a motorcade, which is obviously not the case here. My ideas:
Normally, one of the officers in the car will have their radios switched to the local borough's station. If a call is dispatched involvong firearms and they are closer than the standard Armed Response Vehicles, they also have an armed capability and will therefore deal with the call. All police officers - despite which unit they are attached to - have a responsibility to deal with crime. Also, the senior officer in the control room may dictate who is sent to which calls....
@emergencyequip Thanks, makes sense. I was just under the impression that they were strictly and without exception only dealing w dignitaries and that.
They respond to all kinds of calls. I watched a TV programme the other night (think it was Send in the Dogs on ITV1) and two of these DPG BMW's were involved in a vehicle pursuit through London.

Well they have Guns on board so there could of been something to do with a knife or teroist or someone could of even had a gun witch is illigal in the U.K.
moviesunrated, that's not what the Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) do.
I won't go into all the detail, because it's already been mentioned. But it's the armed response who deal with guns etc. Knives can be dealt with my armed police, but half of the time, it's standard constables who come across the knives, by mistake or intentionally, and it's them who deal with it.
Ok well what i meant was is they might have guns onboard but not all the time, you wouldnt see a normal police man dealing with guns. Anyway i dont care about it
DPG is 'Diplomatic Protection Group' and they are active in the main City of London. They respond to terrorist threats or crimes in royal boroughs etc.
like the two tone. sounds like a dutch police siren

-Running late (unlikely, I know)
-Police request from embassy/ambassador's home.
Anything else?

But if a DPG unit is a second from a call that involves a firearm, they are not oing to ignore it "because its down to CO19"

owning a gun isnt illegal in the UK but its is heavily resctricted to what you are allowed to have.

I really would like to get more videos, but I'm not in London anymore... =/
And in Brasil is a bit hard to film emergency vehicles, is sort of, illegal...
But anyway, british emergency vehicles are far way better then the ones over here!
Cyrussm 3 years ago
Oh right! :( well i really like your videos anyway so i guess that will have to do. You coming back over at all?
policeblue999 3 years ago
Yeah, I guess, maybe in 2010, I'm thinking about joining the PCSO's, then maybe London Ambulance Service!
Thanks, I will add other videos soon!
Cyrussm 3 years ago
oh, nice plan. i've been getting into my ambulance stuff lately, not sure why but they are becoming my favourite emergency service.
