  • wow i actually used to live in merritt island and am so intersted in the mosquito's . so best of both worlds, i get an ariel view and i see the mosquito in action . many thanks nice vid !

  • Could anybody tell me about the specifics of a Moaquito concerning max. range, velocity and service ceiling? Just curious.

  • its just like flight simulator x lol :)

  • i i read the fuel usages is 6 gallons an hour abouts , i so one of these is not suitsble for long trips . straight line flights etc great vid you have done . i see the cycle is very labour intensive , is it loaded up all the time , say down wind pulling foward and up wind pushing back , sorry to be asking questions .but am serious about pocket helis or the hughs 500 at the other extream good vids

  • Carb ice is not something that is very common in two stroke engines due to hot air blow back through the carbs from the pistons during intake and exhaust cycles. Snow mobiles usually run two cycle engines as well and even at thier cold temps they rarely ever have icing problems. There are many people flying the two cycle powered Mosquitos in cold weather and I have never heard of any of them experiencing icing.

  • insanely incredible little machines! I prefer a Turbine to be honest, but wouldnt rule out owning one of these..

My Question is , Being a naturally aspirated engine, Do you have to worry about Carb icing? and what does this lil guy have installed to handle such icing? Understandable, You are in warm Florida, But carb ice happens! How do ya handle it in the Mosquito??

  • Yes, it is a helicopter and you have to fly it constantly. Helicopters are not like airplanes. Airplanes want to fly as soon as you get enough airspeed going past their wings. Helicopters don't want to fly at all and the pilot has to tell it to be in the air the entire time. This is why helicopters are so interesting to fly. The pilot is involved the entire time.

  • That was too much stick time, always holding the sick in a corrective way.

  • Five Gallons is the legal amount to carry in an ultralight (Mosquito XEL) and it will fly right around an hour +/- a few minutes depending on how much power is used. It is not legal to carry more than 5 gallons in an ultralight. The Experimental version (Mosquito XE) has a 12 gallon tank and will fly for around 2 hours and 40 minutes +/- depending on power used.

  • how long does a tank of gas last on a nonstop flight? and is it legal to install a larger fuel tank? thank you

  • I would have liked seeing you put it into one of those 47's parked on the ramp !

  • No, I drove and he flew then we changed and he drove and I flew back. This was an ultralight helicopter and as such can only have one seat.

  • Two seater? cause you said that you and you're dad did the flight.

  • @nocal Don't be a nerdy know-it-all tool; let the dude fly his mosquito...

  • Yeah, we can speculate over our interpretations of what a “congested area” is all day long but obviously your opinion and mine differ.

  • Technically, under Part 103, it seems to me that this is operation over a congested area. I realize that the FAA defines "congested area" on a case by case basis, but I don't think you'd have much of a defense here if the FAA took some enforcement action.

  • You need to be more specific in what you are asking. Read the paragraph below that begins with FAA Part 103. The requirements are the same across the entire United States.

  • What are the flying restrictions for one of these in florida?

  • please correct me if im wrong but it seems that you are not balanced, you seem to be pushing the cyclic left the entire flight, you touch your left leg with the cyclic a few times, is it normal?

  • Yes, sometimes I get a line on a used one and help to sell it. They typically sell for more money used since the hard part (building) is done.

  • FAA Part 103 Ultralight Regulations limit Ultralight aircraft to 254 lbs (or 314 lbs with an added safety device like a parachute or in this case floats) and only one person. The Mosquito company is in the process of designing a two seat helicopter now but it will obviously not be flown as an ultralight. You do not need a pilot's license to fly an ultralight but at least 10 hours of dual helicopter instruction is highly recommended. I am a Mosquito dealer so feel free to ask me any queations.

  • also is there a 2 seater? or would that move it out of the ultralight class?

  • You can operate these as ultralights?!?! What kind of training would you recieve? Or is it just standard that new owners take a few rotorcraft lessons? I've taken a rotorcraft lesson long enough to discover that I would never want to be PIC until I had quite a bit more experience. For 30 grand this is incredible.

  • Yes, this is an XEL with floats. The floats are not visible from the camera angle shown from within the cockpit. I am a Mosquito dealer so feel free to ask me any queations.

  • or is there floats that nobody can see?

  • are you sure that is an XEL did your come with floats?

  • Thanks, but you make me feel old!

I got a commercial and multi-engine at Rockledge some 40 years ago, on the GI bill.

    There was nothing there!

Merritt island with a Chinook! That was my MOS in the Army, in Nam, before I went to Rockledge.

Now in California, my buddy has a Mosquito!

  • omg... i drive by that airport on my way to UCF all the time! i didnt read the description till after the video. and i was thinking man that place looks fimiluer! nice video, looks like a lot for fun!

  • how high do you usually cruise at? and it'a an XEL so its cruise is usually about 65 mph right?

  • Quick question, why use the runway if you're in a heli??

  • @tvoice1

Safety! The runway is a great forced landing area in case of an engine failure or other emergency when taking off.

  • @funkysaxmankt oooh! that makes sense! thanx for sharing!

  • Howuch would you have to pay for one of those?

Looks really fun, but i doubt the price for the flying license would be affordable here in Sweden :S

Great quality of your video, i loved it from the beginning to the end :)

    With love from Sweden <3

    Jasmine

  • @Jasminewynja

The cost is about 30 thousand US dollars. This helicopter can be flown as an ultralight class aircraft here in the US and therefore doesn't require a pilot's license. I'm sorry to say that I don't think you can fly it as an ultralight in Sweden. A helicopter license is a lot of money. Much more expensive than airplane.

Thanks for the compliments on my video. I used a small sony camera attached to my shoulder strap seat belt. I watched your jet video and loved it.

  • @funkysaxmankt Do you ever sell used ones? These look really cool, I'd be willing to pay around 10-15k for one unless I hit the lottery sometime soon

  • u dont hole ur hand steady enough on the stick

  • is it difficult to fly? how far can you go? is it fast? how many mpg?

  • @20stevieray, It is difficult to fly but just like learning to drive a car or ride a bike, once you've got it, you've got it. The average person learns to takeoff, land and hover in about ten hours of flight training and this is the most important and hardest phase. It will fly about 85 mph and it will go for about an hour and ten minutes on five gallons of gas.

  • have u got ear muffies on? that engine would drive me up the wall. turbine would be kick ass but for the price.

did you already know how to flight a copter or some other light aircraft before you started with this? how was training and how long did it take to feel safe? this seems like just about the most lethal form of flying to take up in terms of the learning curve.

  • Wow.. what a nice ride..

  • I used a small Sony camera that takes video and I simply velcro'd it to my seat belt shoulder strap.

  • @funkysaxmankt You should never grip a cyclic control tightly - you need 'feel it'

  • @c53204, thank you for your instruction on how you think I am holding the cyclic. Are you a helicopter pilot?

  • @c53204 Retired ATPL both rotary and fixed wing

  • OK, then you know what you are talking about. This helicopter has no trim or boosted flight controls so if you relax too much, the cyclic will jump out of your hands. I think if you look closely enough you will see that I have my hand around it but my fingers are bouncing indicating a fairly relaxed grip. If you are interested in this little machine hit me up, I'm a dealer.

  • @funkysaxmankt Sorry did not mean to offend. I was meant to reply to @20stevieray

    Who said

"u dont hole ur hand steady enough on the stick"

  • @funkysaxmankt you sell these or just the kits? I know the kit factory is Trenton, but how much is a ready built one?

  • @c53204 All you guys trying to "School" this dude on how he's flying should get back to your flight sims or Call of duty games! You have no idea who this dude is, and the type of SEASONED pilot he is and what he does for a living... (hint, if your ever stranded out in the foothills of Austin, Tx. he may be saving your life!) get back to your fifteen year old lives and leave the piloting to "REAL" pilots!! : )

  • How is the camera being held?
