Even though VH didn't exist when this was video was done, they did not want it to be made. The company did not want to be sued and had to play it as safe, which meant no original VH music. While this limits the documentary there is still a ton of great stuff that has never turned up elsewhere, namely original bass player Mark Stone, as well as others who were close to the band and saw them in the earliest days. It's flawed but still essential for any hardcore VH fan.
im sorry but when hagar joined it was kinda like they lost there edge and lost there outlook because of the access of all the money and fame instead of being more raw they got polished DLR somewhat was like that too when we went solo even both of the different projects had a couple good tunes it was just not the same
I was in high school from 02-06 and we would imitate VH in everything we did. Every party we played every girl we flirted with was somehow laced with VH. They are the ultimate RNR band period. My life would have never been the same if it weren't for VH. Love them!
good stuff, but its sad that Sammy Hagar wasent included. I would love an extented story that covers Hagars entry into the band. I just cant get enough of his voice! Van Hagar was the best ever
@ltuomela you obviously haven't heard steel panther they do actually have their own songs and albums. Though they are a of a comedic nature. For a joke band their actually pretty good one of the more popular local acts in L.A. So makin money livin it up and playing great music....what's wrong with that? nothing.
@metalwizard13 its called not being original..but hey whatever turns your clock man..me i like to be a individual..cover bands are a bunch of wannabe's paint it any way you want that is the bottom line..
@ltuomela well like I just said....they do write their own songs. Their called steel panther now they are their own band. comprende? tis not my favourite band or anything dude just guiving credit where it's due.
Ya know, if you asked me as long as Edward is in the band, Van Halen are cool to hear. Hagar? Great singer, not bad lyricist- for Van Halen- dont like the hair, but oh well. Roth? Pure Van Halen All The Way!! Gary Cherone? Few good tunes but a little too theatrical for my taste, still, some good tunes and Edward played like a new man with Cherone in the line up, I thought , anyways.
Well don't mix up reality. Yes, the Sammy albums went #1, but that just means the most sales of the week. Even the albums that went #1 with Sammy didn't actually outsell the albums with Roth overall
More importantly, don't forget the context. Rock albums NEVER went #1 in the late 70's or early 80's. Sammy happened to join when ALL rock went #1. From Whitesnake, to Poison, to GNR, to Motley Crue, bands that never would have gone #1 actually did. The late 80's was a different time
sales numbers dont mean much to me just pointing out that roth never had a number one with roth and all the albums with sammy went to number one thats all.
How many bands stayed on top after the changed singer? Not Motley Crue, not Ratt, not anyone besides VH and ac/dc, as far as quality thats an opinion an i am not going to buy an album cause the rest is no good. True the hard rock/metal revival started around 85. I will say VH were more groundbreakin in the beggining. you better be but imho they became better songwriters with sammy
i have that 78 tourbook! should sell it....

@Obelisk2290 Every album #1 after Roth left ?
==> Roth made the name big, once on top it's easier ;
==> overall music-quality went down since the 80s; so VH hadn't any competition any more ...
Besides: The first video with the new singer was quite a gay thing ...
