I've never seen a bike get such a bad rep on name alone. Suzuki lovers everywhere hated this bike before they even saw it! Suzuki North America needs people in their marketing department who speak English as a first language to stop gaffes like this from happening. A good bike that will never sell because it was doomed by its name. They will change it slightly and rename it. It'll still be called a Gladius by everyone and fail. I think all "robobikes" are ugly so I won't even argue looks!
@wsbill14224 They hated it after they saw it.I myself prefer the look of the SV650 and i`ve owned a naked one for the last 10 years. The colours used on the gladius look like the designer was colourblind and that huge footrest hanger really spoils the look of the bike from the side.Other than that, it`s ok i suppose.Kinda meh.
I`m now looking at either a speed triple 1050 or a Z1000sx for an upgrade from the sv.It`s given 10 years of trouble free use but it`s time to move on.
Its a great bike and Ive had loads over the last 38 years. Why do non bike enthusiasts have to make childish comments , gay, homosexual etc. grow up, real bikers dont say such crap. ps Im married with three kids. If you dont like the gladius type in something else. simple.
I was trying to decide between a new triumph Bonneville and the Gladius, like the looks of the Bonneville much better, but the Suzuki would be more fun with better
handling and power. Should I pick style over substance? or does the Triumph have just as much power and handling as the Suzuki?
@federalwarhawk I was kinda in the same boat, but to less of an extent. I thought it would be cool to have a sportbike, but I had my mind pretty much made up on a cruiser (harley iron 883). So i bought the harley. Its a pretty sporty cruiser, and now that I have a taste, I want it all, and regret not getting a sportbike in the first place. get the gladuis!
the bike looks ok for 2010 the granite grey and red is more manly. I think that at the end of the day its a first big bike, I'm split between a few atm ..diversion...sv 650 s or one of these. anyone have any sugestions?>
How is it that the SV650 receives such praise for its budget sport naked qualities, and then Suzuki adds a bit more cosmetic detail than a Frankenstein welded aluminum frame and more refined European styling and all these jokers claim is girlie or gay. Just cause its not a gutless 600 inline four doesn't mean it won't tear you a new one from 0-60
yellowbusguy, the rest of the world dosn't all put their bikes away.Like many other bikers I ride all year round, not many days a year when that's taking a risk if you're an experienced rider.Plenty or sprays e.t.c. to protect your bike from road salt these days and I usually get at least 10,000 miles from my chains despite riding through winter, you just have to keep it clean, lubed and adjusted properly,it's not rocket science.
That aftermarket exhaust looks ugly indeed. Also, I think it's more of a self-esteem issue to say these bikes are too girly. Be a man and keep your head high.
I wonder what sort of blokes these are; they say the Brutale, Monster 1100, Gladius, old ER-6n have "image issues", that they're "feminine", "girly"...
Maybe I'm very girly.
Or maybe they're just grease monkeys with no culture or aesthetic sensibilty. Plato, Kant, Shoppenhauer all thought that in the end one can only see true beauty when ONE IS IN HARMONY WITH WISDOM.
Maybe those chaps aren't... or maybe some just want short-penis-compensations...
@alernest Where can i subscribe to your newsletter? you took the words right outta my mouth and arranged them in a much more poetic way. Nice to see a decent youtuber for once!
Ride it in filthy conditions will wear the chain out .......salt will destroy aluminum and most metals. The rest of the world puts their bikes away in the winter months. I dont see how the durability of the finish can be an issue when you treat the bike like that.
it produce 45bhp and the EXUP system gave it good torque too!! not sure the bandit has that much as standard, but if its like my FZR parts from bigger bikes can be fitted. I could put R1 brakes straight on to it. be careful, upgrading is a hard habit to break!
best thing i ever did was put pirelli's on, boosts your confidence 10 fold!!!

@menormice2 The review was done in Feb 2010 and since then the arse has dropped out of the pound and motorcycle costs have gone skyward.

Budget bike? These shitty bikes aren't cheap either. Men who buy the SV650 and Gladious are homosexuals.

I don't understand what's girly about this bike, I think it's gorgeous. But not with that screen, looks like the pope's hat.

Wanna make it less 'girly'? Just paint the bodywork black. The screen and bellypan actually look quite naff.

It's because of the round edges and round headlight. I can understand what they mean. The er6n and monster 1100 are not that bad though..
