The assembly on a 2004Toro was slightly different from this design. The main difference was that there was NO WAY to get the rope through the tiny inside hole. However, I heated the rope up well past melting, drew it into a thinner and stiffer thread, and then when I lined the holes up, it almost dove in. Also, on mine, the rope had to be threaded though the plastic engine cover before releasing the tension or else you'd have to re-tie the handle end.
Thanks for this video. This ended up being much easier to do than I ever thought. Last year I had a small engine place fix my broken starter rope, they ended up reusing the old, falling apart rope and of course it broke again last week. I spent a total of an hour fixing this, including the time for a trip to the hardware store for rope. Total cost of repair: $1.21.
@1G0TP1NK8C1DB00TS0N9 I would say that's likely the case with the one I just broke. This is like the 5th time I've used the trimmer. The cord is frayed rather badly. I'm assuming it's because I'm holding it wrong when I go to start it, pulling it sideways as opposed to straight out. Going to check the manual for a picture of someone starting it to make sure I'm doing it correctly.
Hey thanks I did this but how do you put it back in place when your done please let me know message me or make a video if you can thank you..

I just snapped the pull cord from my snow blower. Watched this video and got it re-attached and working. Thanks a lot Craig

Absolutely perfect. I had my Tecumseh H70 repaired (at least the recoil starter cord) in 15 minutes. Thanks a million!

Good DIY video Craig, I liked it! Many people have broken recoil ropes due to the fact they pull them wrong. Thanks for sharing!
Peace :)

The same method can be done on a Briggs engine shroud. You just need one of those large bar clamps
