I hate that nervous feeling I get when I either get in debates about my atheism or someone brings up my views of religion. I just want to feel normal about it. btw I live right in the bible belt.
@kpgpwi64 Yeah, living in the bible belt does kinda suck. I just try to stay away from religious conversations because the chances of people agreeing with me are slim.
Brother, stick to your Guns and put your thought across, religious people don't hold back so why should we? especially as we have a much better argument. I live in the UK where it is normal not to believe in God, which is lucky.
I had the same kind of experience with my friends. Without that bond of family, those friends seemed to just dissolve away, never to be a part of my life again.
I still wonder to this day why I am so threatening to them.
I went through the same thing with my Dad around 7 years ago. Fortunately we came to a truce and ultimately developed respect for each other. He passed away 2 years ago and my Mom has since become deeply obsessed with Christianity. She has started to think of me as scum since I merely say I think thier may be an afterlife but I don't know, and I am fine with that. She says she hates to see me go to hell. I dont believe in hell. She kicked me out of her life 2 months ago. I know how you feel.
@clicb4 I remember being deeply disturbed by a poster I saw up in a barber shop when I was about 9 or 10 years old. The poster listed things that should be important to people. Number 3 was friends, number 2 was family, and of course, number one was god. Even at that young age I'm proud to say that I found myself disagreeing completely, even though I was a christian at the time. Hell, that poster might have been one of the things that caused me to abandon religion.
@Deanbass77 I kinda understood it when I was a Christian, but I don't anymore. The thought process is supposed to be that if you love God the most, the good stuff will trickle down to all other parts of your life. We see how well that works out for everyone that goes by that motto.
Kudos for having the courage to state your opinion. It's hard enough to do with friends let alone parents. One of my favorite arguments comes from Christopher Hitchens. He says lets say mankind has been around for 100,000 years (prly more.. but for the sake of argument). Horrible suffering, disease, famine, man on man atrocities etc. 'God/heaven' has been watching this for 98000 years with complete indifference and just in the last 2000 has decided to 'step in'. Paraphrased of course.
Just tell your dad straight up how you feel. If he doesn't like what he hears then tell him you don't want to lie to him and that's honestly the way you feel. Tell him it's "better" to be an agnostic than an atheist. I'm sure that would put him at some ease.
@CertifiedGooner729 "Tell him it's "better" to be an agnostic than an atheist." Alright, I find this confusing. Rather than argue the correctness of this statement (your use of quotes tells me you know what I mean) I'll ask: What is gained with this approach? Dad has now been misinformed about agnosticism/atheism. It's not better to be one or the other. That said, I'm an irreligiously raised Canadian, and don't face the same things American atheists seem to.
Try not to be so nervous. I can see it in this video and though it doesn't bother me, you need to be able to handle it in situations like the one presented to you.
@supermandan85 You also have to keep in mind that I did this video literally minutes after we had the conversation that left me a bit shaken as I didn't expect it. My newer update videos are not as uneasy looking.
It sounds like you handled it well. I think one of the things you can do is relieve him of the burden of convincing you if he id not a particularly sophisticated debater. Say you will talk to the pasture of the church or someone else he trusts. You also have to realize that at a deeper level he is trying to preserve family unity and your connection to the community and he is probably worried about you becoming isolated or shunned.
No different Scince my family is catholic and tried to force me to be just that. But as I read the bible for myself I found out that they arent doing what the bible says and roman catholisism realy is pagan and not Christianity just a bunch of hypocrytes. But this doesn't hinder myy belife in GOD in fact Jesus said this very thing would happen and i see exactly what he He meant by this.I havent seen contradiction in the actual Gospel but i do in mens traditions and their own doctrine.
My parents are kinda similar. I mean, they are both atheist, but one day my dad caught me making me new video about noahs ark and the flood. He was shocked. He wanted to sit down with me and talk about how it shouldnt spend time thinking so much about it, and i was like """WHAT""". Is he actually saying that we shouldnt think much about it. IF we didnt there wouldnt be any atheist today.
I totally sympathize. It must not have been too fun and I'm sorry :(
I have yet to tell my dad and grandparents that I'm agnostic (basically I believe there might be something but not the christian hypocrtical and such). I'm really afraid to. Luckily my close family doesn't go to church nor force me to when they do (easter, baptisms).
I hope u and ur dad have a heart to heart soon and can understand each other!
@clicb4 I suppose thats for the best. Maybe he's trying to understand it in his head a little and after he can come to terms with it (or something) u'll talk again.
your dad seems like a narrow-minded person. I understand entirely my moms the same way it can be hard to talk with a religious parent about being atheist.
@Greyfort7 What a crock of nonsense. NOT ONE thing in Christianity is contrary to science except the fact that when a miracle occurs, it's violates the natural laws of nature. The educational establishment is lying in school textbooks and this has been firmly established and there's ample evidence for you to see if you wanted. They not only teach lies they teach religious theory (evolution) as scientific fact, which is more lies. Schools DO NOT TEACH CRITICAL THINKING. That's a blatant lie.
athiesm is very sad. You athiests dont believe in God because your sins are holding you in slavery to satan. Your sins are stopping you from feeling God or even finding it in your heart to pray to him. The reason you athiests cant feel God is because you love your sins. if YOU STOP LOVING YOUR SINS FOR one second JESUS will come to you and you will feel his power
@thousandlegger I used a related argument a couple of years ago, but it didn't have much of an effect. I can't remember the exact argument I used, but I basically made a statement, said "You wouldn't even do that, so that makes you more moral than God". There was a bit of uncomfortable silence on the other end, and eventually he got tired of the conversation and it was changed. I've made two more videos about it since this one, but we don't talk about religion much these days.
@clicb4 well good for you for standing up for your rationality. it's very very hard to do when dealing with parents. my mom just pretends i never told her i was an atheist. i think that being honest with your parents IS honoring them, far more than pretending to believe some bronze age mythology. i would be proud to have you as my son.
You need to honor your Dad. It will pay off in the long run especially when you have children. You will reap what you've sown. You should think long and hard about that.
Jesus said why you reject Him in John 3:18-20. You should think about that long and hard too because the evil heart of man is deceitful and all you've got to do is look at your friends and you'll know that we all lie to ourselves.
Jesus is real and will be real to any honest person willing to obey Him.
@911dispatcher i feel that since i have not limited my understanding of the universe to one bronze age compilation of nomadic mythology, i am far more likely to say something that actually has some relevance to human life. the idea being "qualified" to speak is some dogmatic bullshit, dude. and the "moral perversion" which has me most captivated is THINKING FOR MYSELF.
@thousandlegger One thing you clearly don't do is think for yourself. You sound like then thousand brainwashed idiots who all claim they think for themselves while they parrot the same idiocy they heard from various ignorant and deceived fools. If you thought for yourself, it would show.
@thousandlegger It was a rhetorical question for your consideration only, though it's obvious that you're so far gone, you're very unlikely to consider it, but DON'T ANSWER ME. As I said, you're unqualified to speak.
@911dispatcher now i get it. you were abused as a child and therefor have the "might makes right" mentality. or maybe you were created in gods image and are just a dick.
My question for any religious faith is this? If a god created everything including the universe, light, man and so fourth... Then What did he do For gigazillions of light years before he created the very first thing, regardless of what it was? floating there all alone, no chair even; hadnt been created yet. nothing to even look at and complete darkness ..We are to believe that all of a sudden an idea popped up in his head to create things, and created man to worship him? cant buy that idea....
@vmax4ya You're asking a fourth grade question and you haven't even started first grade.
God is amazingly gracious and patient but He is not going to "assume the position" of putting you in charge and demanding from Him to answer to you.
His Word is clear. You are the offender. He's a holy God. In His great love, He sent His Son to pay the penalty for your sins (which is death), and fully accepts you into His presence when you believe the gospel and confess Jesus as Lord. Start there.
@911dispatcher Talk about swallowing lies, You have to be completely blind to not see through religion. Im not demanding anything ,just wondering how any logical person can live on this planet and see what has happned in history ,(proven history) and even on a daily basis and come to the conclusion that a God is responsible for the creation of this planet or any other. I wasnt born of my beliefs but grew into them and unless something physically shows me proof. I wont be going back to the lies.
@vmax4ya I didn't swallow religion. I met the King of kings by His invitation. Jesus appeared to me, showed me His death, burial and resurrection and held out His nail scarred hands to me and said, "I did it for you because I love you and I want you." Though it happened over 38 years ago, it's still clear in my mind and I'm still amazed at the love of God. Those are the facts and I've been telling people for over 38 years. I'm met many people with just as wonderful experiences.
@911dispatcher I was a blasphemer and a mocker when Jesus appeared to me. I used to relish arguing with Christians because it was so easy to stump them with simply questions like, "If God is love and all powerful, then why are babies born deformed." Most Christians couldn't answer that or the many other questions. But Jesus' love changed my attitude and answered my questions. He's real, friend. Look long and hard at those Scriptures I gave you. They expose your problem.
@911dispatcher so why are babies deformed? and why do people who speak gods word keep raping said deformed babies? and you are one of the reasons that i never call 911.
@911dispatcher actually my father is not the devil. Matt 7:6 says that Christians have the duty to educate those without faith in the ways of their god, something you are failing drastically. So like other parts of Christianity you are a hypocrite. Guess what: NATURAL SELECTION! BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA now run away and bury your head in Luke 6:66 or something before i pull out my Flying Spaghetti Monster!
When a man turns to the Lord in love and faith, God breaks the darkness from his eyes and the answers begin to come. The problem is that you're behaving with contempt and disrespect towards the Almighty, who holds your breath in His hands when you should fear. The proper attitude affects God's response and initiative.
The Bible is God's Word. It's true. I knew that instinctively when I met Him and I became practically convinced the first year. It's an amazing Book! He/It will speak.
@911dispatcher When a man creates a picture of God in his head and make a relationship with this imagination then the man will believe in God. It is hallucination. The world is what you make it in your head. It is also possible to have relationships with non-existant things like dead relatives.
@G3org3Master Are you deaf, blind and stupid? I testified to you words of sober truth. You read them. You will be judged by Jesus as having read them. You ARE accountable for the truth I've honestly and soberly told you.
Don't kid yourself. Your eternal destiny is at stake. The reality of God in my life isn't a fabrication. I'm so NOT PHONY that I don't play the games that most people play in social situations. I'm accused of being "too serious" because I see how important everything is.
@911dispatcher HOW DO YOU KNOW? Give me evidence that my eternal destiny is at stake, give me evidence that I' going to be judged.
p.s. why did my appendix explode two weeks ago? was It because I committed a sin, or was it pure randomness (basically unlucky)? And without science (that has evidence for natural selection (meaning life started very simply) I would be dead by now. Infact, most people on the world wouldn't even have been born without science!
@G3org3Master You're just really thick to not understand that I used to have your POV, dummy.
How can you be so stupid? You not only had an exploding appendix, but if you look around, there are hundreds of other bad things that can happen to you. If you had a lick of sense, you would have already figured out that ALL THOSE THINGS say, "You need to get right with God so that you can have His grace and protection."
@G3org3Master To illustrate the difference between you without God and me with God, I'm 57 years old and when Jesus told me that His sacrifice was for me when I was 18 and I said "yes" to Him, He shortly afterward told me that He wanted to be My healer and I said "yes" to that too. I didn't a get a ruptured appendix. In fact, I haven't been in the hospital in 40 years, don't get check-ups, don't go to the doctor, don't take drugs and WON'T get a ruptured appendix.
@911dispatcher First and foremost: Are you seriously saying religious people are invulnerable from bad things like apendicitus? Do christians not get cancer? You are making up bullshit, give me the evide; incase you dont know what it is, give me 2 sources saying/explainning/ahowing that christians that believe in God and all that do not get apenicitus. Secondly: If I was given free-will, so I can believe what I want, then why does God put me through agony(black mail) to turn to him?
@G3org3Master When I read the first question, I thought I come back and ask you if you were asking me a serious question. Then I read the second one and realized that you're not. So when you really want honest answers, I have them. Even a dunce like you ought to say, "Hmmm 40 years? Really? Could there be something to this?"
@G3org3Master Let me tell you and Tarantulus666 something. God's love for each one of you is so great that, to get just a glimpse of it, would instantly bring you to weeping -- it's that amazing. But He's God. You don't get that. He's the Almighty; the Holy One before whom there is nothing but honor and respect. He doesn't tend to scratch itching intellects, but He responds to hungry, tender and humble hearts.
I don't trust you guys. You're asking for me to open my heart to you. Why should I?
@911dispatcher This doesn't mean you are right about life and everything that exists (my my, how soberly.) it means you are antisocial. Before commenting, learn your A. Psychology, B. Philosofy, C. Social studies.
@vmax4ya You're an ignorant fool and it is you who has swallowed lies. You don't even know enough to know the difference between religion and Christianity.
If Christianity is true, then that means the devil holds you captive to do his will. Most of you fools think believers just "swallowed religious nonsense" because we were too stupid to see through it. You heard that from the devil. Actually, most of us were like you -- ignorant and self-serving and God showed up and convinced us He loved us.
@911dispatcher Nope. I believe it has been eating properly and exercising enough that keeps you healthy. So, you have never been the slightest bit ill since you were 18? Nice one.
@G3org3Master I eat what I want when I want and always have. I've never been on a diet and have never believed in them because of what the Scriptures say. No one would accuse me of eating properly and they would laugh about the exercising. In fact, they'd laugh about both. I take no drugs (but completely agree with William Buckley Jr. on pot). I drink no alcohol but only because I have never liked it. There's much more, but it's that "pearls before swine" thing that you should both look up.
@G3org3Master Here's another related tidbit for you. My stepson (I married his mother when he was 4) went through 12 years of public and private school without missing one day due to illness and was never vaccinated.
@shishimore yes I was furthering your (Christopher Hitchen) argument with another (Christopher Hitchen argument) never said that you were wrong - pay attention - did you understand my post at all it was agreeing with you by giving further plausible considerations against ID - where was I arguing against you
@shishimore one day the sun will red dwarf after it dies and that number will be 100% tell me where the intelligence is in that design - why would some one make 8 houses and only one of them be habitable with running water - some design
@Dps081393 It's not hilarious when the Hindus are murdering people. Aren't they the 2nd religion after islam that loves to murder those who don't agree with them?
Why yes, they are. For those of you that don't know, seach, "hindu murders" or "india religious murders" or "hindus murder christians."
For that matter, you can find YouTube videos of their murder of Christians ... for being Christians. You can find one on my channel.
I now find it funny that, just like the muslims, you sound like it's the religion as a whole that are torturing your religion
We are taught tolerance, we are taught to get an education, we are taught to think rationally, we are taught to thank God
and im pretty sure your religion was no better than mine a few centuries ago. Weren't the crusades the bloodiest and longest of religious wars? Killed millions, all for holy land?
dude the best solution so no one including your father is to just move out of your fathers house. And presto, problem solved, you won't be questioned about your non-faith from anyone.
Dude, this must have been so hard. Not because of god, but to see disappointment in your father's eyes and expression for doing nothing wrong except educating yourself and thinking. Kudos.
It was a lot easier for me and my mom, because we never talked about it. I just slowly let her realize.
@PresentAssassin Explain to them that at your age, they need to understand that you're too old to be coerced and that if they're really concerned, the best thing they can do is be examples by their attitudes, words and behavior and pray for you and trust God to do His work on you.
If you do that wisely, it will probably work, if their relationship with Jesus is real.
how about the concept of intelligent design? opposed to evolution - not necessarily referring to god - just something of a higher intelligence - designing us intelligently defensively where everything works and flows seemingly naturally - is that at all plausible to you - or do you think there is nothing - just asking not wanting to argue points
@stillstandin4you - Well, considering that evolution is a proven fact (not a concept or opinion), I would have to say that intelligent design is false. Now, dismissing that claim, there might be some kind of higher intelligence. Do I personally see a reason to believe there is? No, not at all. I see the world functioning fine on it's on. I see no need to insert a god into it.
@clicb4 interesting and understandable point of view - and your right we've made it this far - I think i draw towards existentialist beliefs - I'm nihilist at times - but it would be nice if there was something else - I doubt and hope that we are not the only intelligent life in existence - but I mean it would be nice if there was something more (to life) I guess an existentialist would say that the only reason and meaning in life is the ones you give it so... but thanks for your response
@clicb4 evolution is a fact - this is true - but evolution to the origin of life is still a theory it has not yet been proven true - tho I no doubt assume one day it will be
@clicb4 Evolution a proven fact? LOL You're either a liar or you've swallowed a great deal of lies. Evolution is no better than /a religious belief and there are so many reasons that it's utter and complete nonsense that I marvel that any one with a functioning brain can buy into it. However, I know why they do and again, it's John 3:18-20 and Romans 1.
A child can see through evolution. There's a video call "100 Reasons evolution is Stupid." You should check it out. You can d/l it for free.
@clicb4 If you believe evolution is a proven fact, then you are both brainwashed and ignorant. Ignorant of what evolution really is and ignorant of what science really is. For you to say it's a proven fact shows your rebellion against your dad has been working so thoroughly that you've even allowed it to manufacture nonsense in your head. Evolution is absurd. If it were true, the fossil record would be overwhelmed with hundreds of billions of transitional fossils. This is easy to see.
@Tarantulus666 facetious not to be taken seriously or literally - umm.. this is true - however you show your intelligence threw the assumption that i believe in ID i merely posed a question - doesnt have to reflect my views - i wanted to hear what he thought - and on top of that i presented no argument - for being a free thinker you sure didn't think about that one - fail
@Tarantulus666 ..so threw design the designer takes the role of God (you kind of worded this awkwardly) and by deital im going 2 assume u meant some form of deity (Google only pulled up dental) I would agree but if we ever re-create life r u saying that we will assume the role of a deity ...than I would not agree we die along w the stars n everything else but we would have been responsible for creating life
that's exactly what I'm saying. by creating life (on a universal scale, which is what I assume we are discussing) you take on the role of the deity, divinity is inherent in the act.
@Tarantulus666 - also a concept can not assume any role it's just a thought and a designer would be God of it's design not it's designer lol sorry so many posts - no rooom
@stillstandin4you: a concept? what concept? if we're talking about the concept of god, as an idea then your arguement is moot, and idea cannot create life. if we are referring to a literal (albeit hypothetical) designer then they must have corporeal form and therefore are not a concept. I'm not sure what you're getting at...
@Tarantulus666 im referring to your original post and i quote "the concept of an intelligent designer assumes the deital state of that designer" thats the word you choose to use - sad thing is lol the whole thing is just a concept and I would love to continue arguing this but unfortunately it looks as tho we are in agreement
@Tarantulus666 I knew a man whose mother was a scientist. Neither of them were Christians but he told me that his mother said to him one day. There must be a God. The human body is too amazing for there not to be.
A simple observation. She could have said it about all the various aspects of creation. Everything shouts the glory of God and the devil is blinding the eyes of the proud and rebellious and making fools of them.
The human eye alone is beyond the scope of all the claims of evolution.
@Tarantulus666 Your brain is apparently very weak and your powers of concentration even worse and your BS quotient very low. You're also ignorant.
You guys think you know something about evolution but your remarks show you know virtually nothing but have some vague and unspecific idea of the concept, which is really pretty normal since it's a vague stupid theory anyway. But it's ludicrous for you FOOLS to make such IDIOTIC remarks using words like "proven" and "disproven" which are ABSURD.
Please, you sound like a schoolyard bully. stop attacking me and see if you can find a reasonable attack on evolution. I honestly would love to hear an argument that hasn't been refuted over and over again.
@911dispatcher The human eye also operates backwards and in some cases, is useless (blindness) = not so marvelous.
If the human body is simply too amazing for there not to be a god of some sort, then you must, by default, apply that same logic to a god. An all-powerful force of intelligence didn't make himself. By that logic, the cycle can go on and on and on through different levels of higher powers.
@clicb4 Blindness is completely irrelevant to the point of the complexity of the eye. Your ignorance is understandable, but your pretense that you're not ignorant is shameful. You're arrogant and pretentious. It's perfectly obvious to a rational mind that everything couldn't come from nothing. We have a Book that claims it's the Book of God and that the Jews preserved it and it even tells of their worldwide dispersal and regathering, which occurred in 1948. Quit being so ignorant and stupid.
@clicb4 And the eye is hardly the only example in the body, or even the head, of clearly imperfect design. Our sinuses are at a poor angle compared to other mammals, and are prone to infection and filling with mucus, our spines are poorly adapted to take years of bipedal locomotion, the arches of our feet, the spaghetti mess of veins and nerves which take unnecessary detours... I don't see design when I look at us, but something more akin to retro-engineering.
@911dispatcher Uh, random successions of surviving traits occurring over a 2 BILLION YEAR PERIOD have a tendency to look like "order" to the untrained eye. More than that, the instincts of organisms have been to propagate towards higher orders of survival for the last several hundred MILLION years...Meaning organisms pick mates among their local populace according to their ability to provide for their young...That is why RICH ugly assholes get laid more often than cute POOR "nice" guys.
@Ozlanthos Every word of your first two remarks are nothing more or less than pretentious nonsense, or, if you prefer, the imagination of a man based on NOTHING (I could have said based on opinion but that would be redundant).
Yet, you speak it like it's fact and reality, when the oldest verifiably dated history is only a handful of thousands of years. Talking "billions" of years like you know what you're talking about is laughable, because all you have is scientists with RELIGIOUS THEORIES.
@911dispatcher Well tell me what makes you such a fucking expert? Nothing "religious" in my remarks. Just what I consider to be a "clean" (ie lacking religious, political, or even "scientific" (unless you want to include the fossil record...which we can consider "real" because it "exists") assertions theories, taints or leanings) perspective. Oh and btw, what fucking measurement of time are you using? The biblical assertion of a 6 thousand year old universe? GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!
@napula123 interesting - but this is nothing new - How do you prove you exist out side of my mind?? everything I perceive is threw my mind - how do I know you exist out side of it lol - well ...thinking about it - yes - why not - it can be healthy - but teaching it ...no - I don't see how you arrived at that conclusion using my logic lol but thanx for that
@stillstandin4you the logic is, it is a perfectly possible scenario (not probable), for which we have no direct evidence, yet you cannot disprove it...it is not a testable hypothesis, these are characteristics of both ID and "brain in a jar"...why should ID be taught as an alternative but not the "brain in a jar" theory?
@napula123 yes only one question when and where did I say that ID should be taught lol extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - If something can be presented with no evidence it can be dismissed with no evidence - I do not think either should be taught they could be mentioned as ideas or theories but not in the slightest as anything more
@stillstandin4you you did not say teach, sorry, but you get my point...the fact is id is not a new idea, we all know that, and sure you can mention it and it probably is mentioned in some philosophy classes, just like brain in a jar is mentioned in some philosophy classes, but there is NO REASON to mention it in opposition to evolution, since one is a scientific fact, and the other just an idea....you get my drill?
@napula123 yes I agree - I hope you didn't think I was saying creation is... logical - but I got to say I'm glad you showed me that BiaJ theory pretty interesting concept to ponder
i dont go for the devil..i dont know if i'll go to God either...i think when you die...you go to a random world...(my belief)and that you can either go to a good world or a 'bad/hellish' world....so i think that good or bad or whatever will go where ever whenever however...
I can appreciate how awkward that must have been to have that conversation. I still have yet to talk to my mother about my atheism. I'm sure she knows that I am not a religious type, but on the same token, I don't think she knows how far my lack of belief goes. I hope for the best in the development with your father on the subject of religion.
dude its nice to know i have someone who feels like me. My mom wakes up every morning at 3 and prays and has bible studies...We argue about religion some times and I know she knows I dont have strong beliefs but i wonder if she knowes i truly think god in general is completly elogicalable
To be honest, I should stop messing around and get to talking about it. The worse that I can do is disappoint her. She isn't some sort of fire and brimstone Christian, so I needn't fear for our relationship in the longrun. Still, it would make her sad at least for a while, which is why I haven't talked to her about it yet. Already told my dad though, but that's no big deal since he's just a deist.
@clicb4 well i guess that when you look at how everything came to be... the only logical scientific origin for all information is a singular intelligent designer. logically its the only thing that makes sense.
@Jak35ter - I don't see how you figure it's the only logical conclusion, much less a scientific one. Science tends to say just the opposite of the Intelligent Design argument. Even if you go by that argument, you would need an origin for that designer, which Christians always say isn't necessary to make their case work for them.
@Jak35ter - If you're going for the argument that God gives our life meaning, I beg to differ. Let's just say that your god exists and that Christianity is true. What then? We spend our entire existence worshipping something that not only can we not see, hear or detect in any way shape or form, but we have to have faith that it exists? On top of that, why would you want to worship a being that demanded it? That's tyrannical. To answer though, we gives our lives our own meaning.
@clicb4I believe the very greatest gift that God gave us was the WILL to do whatever we chose to do wheather to reject him or to accept him as the loving God that he is.
you can only not detect it in any form because you have closed your eyes as an athiest.. which means belief in no supernaturality.. By the very nature of your position.you have said.. "I dont want to believe that you exist, i am shutting my ears to you" is it any wonder you dont hear from him. he cannot make you open your eyes.
@Jak35ter - Again, incorrect. Atheism is not the lack of a believe in supernaturality. It is simply the lack of a belief in a god or gods (just Zues or all the others also). You can still believe in any number of other supernatural things likes ghosts. What is the point in free will if God already has everything that's ever going to happen already cemented in a plan that cannot change. That would mean that he's already determined the outcome regardless of what any of us do. Think about it.
good luck dude!

@kpgpwi64 Yeah, living in the bible belt does kinda suck. I just try to stay away from religious conversations because the chances of people agreeing with me are slim.

Deanbass77 4 months ago
@Deanbass77 I kinda understood it when I was a Christian, but I don't anymore. The thought process is supposed to be that if you love God the most, the good stuff will trickle down to all other parts of your life. We see how well that works out for everyone that goes by that motto.
clicb4 4 months ago

CertifiedGooner729 9 months ago
@CertifiedGooner729 "Tell him it's "better" to be an agnostic than an atheist." Alright, I find this confusing. Rather than argue the correctness of this statement (your use of quotes tells me you know what I mean) I'll ask: What is gained with this approach? Dad has now been misinformed about agnosticism/atheism. It's not better to be one or the other. That said, I'm an irreligiously raised Canadian, and don't face the same things American atheists seem to.

911dispatcher 1 year ago
You need to honor your Dad. It will pay off in the long run especially when you have children. You will reap what you've sown. You should think long and hard about that.
Jesus said why you reject Him in John 3:18-20. You should think about that long and hard too because the evil heart of man is deceitful and all you've got to do is look at your friends and you'll know that we all lie to ourselves.
Jesus is real and will be real to any honest person willing to obey Him.

My question for any religious faith is this? If a god created everything including the universe, light, man and so fourth... Then What did he do For gigazillions of light years before he created the very first thing, regardless of what it was? floating there all alone, no chair even; hadnt been created yet. nothing to even look at and complete darkness ..We are to believe that all of a sudden an idea popped up in his head to create things, and created man to worship him? cant buy that idea....
vmax4ya 1 year ago
@vmax4ya You're asking a fourth grade question and you haven't even started first grade.
God is amazingly gracious and patient but He is not going to "assume the position" of putting you in charge and demanding from Him to answer to you.
His Word is clear. You are the offender. He's a holy God. In His great love, He sent His Son to pay the penalty for your sins (which is death), and fully accepts you into His presence when you believe the gospel and confess Jesus as Lord. Start there.
911dispatcher 1 year ago
@911dispatcher Talk about swallowing lies, You have to be completely blind to not see through religion. Im not demanding anything ,just wondering how any logical person can live on this planet and see what has happned in history ,(proven history) and even on a daily basis and come to the conclusion that a God is responsible for the creation of this planet or any other. I wasnt born of my beliefs but grew into them and unless something physically shows me proof. I wont be going back to the lies.
vmax4ya 1 year ago
@vmax4ya I didn't swallow religion. I met the King of kings by His invitation. Jesus appeared to me, showed me His death, burial and resurrection and held out His nail scarred hands to me and said, "I did it for you because I love you and I want you." Though it happened over 38 years ago, it's still clear in my mind and I'm still amazed at the love of God. Those are the facts and I've been telling people for over 38 years. I'm met many people with just as wonderful experiences.
911dispatcher 1 year ago
@911dispatcher I was a blasphemer and a mocker when Jesus appeared to me. I used to relish arguing with Christians because it was so easy to stump them with simply questions like, "If God is love and all powerful, then why are babies born deformed." Most Christians couldn't answer that or the many other questions. But Jesus' love changed my attitude and answered my questions. He's real, friend. Look long and hard at those Scriptures I gave you. They expose your problem.

911dispatcher 1 year ago
@911dispatcher When a man creates a picture of God in his head and make a relationship with this imagination then the man will believe in God. It is hallucination. The world is what you make it in your head. It is also possible to have relationships with non-existant things like dead relatives.

911dispatcher 1 year ago
@911dispatcher HOW DO YOU KNOW? Give me evidence that my eternal destiny is at stake, give me evidence that I' going to be judged.
p.s. why did my appendix explode two weeks ago? was It because I committed a sin, or was it pure randomness (basically unlucky)? And without science (that has evidence for natural selection (meaning life started very simply) I would be dead by now. Infact, most people on the world wouldn't even have been born without science!
p.p.s. look at yourself from my POV.
G3org3Master 1 year ago
@G3org3Master You're just really thick to not understand that I used to have your POV, dummy.
How can you be so stupid? You not only had an exploding appendix, but if you look around, there are hundreds of other bad things that can happen to you. If you had a lick of sense, you would have already figured out that ALL THOSE THINGS say, "You need to get right with God so that you can have His grace and protection."
You're just not that smart, are you?
P.S. Look at it from my POV.
911dispatcher 1 year ago
@G3org3Master To illustrate the difference between you without God and me with God, I'm 57 years old and when Jesus told me that His sacrifice was for me when I was 18 and I said "yes" to Him, He shortly afterward told me that He wanted to be My healer and I said "yes" to that too. I didn't a get a ruptured appendix. In fact, I haven't been in the hospital in 40 years, don't get check-ups, don't go to the doctor, don't take drugs and WON'T get a ruptured appendix.
And I'm not praising science.

how about the concept of intelligent design? opposed to evolution - not necessarily referring to god - just something of a higher intelligence - designing us intelligently defensively where everything works and flows seemingly naturally - is that at all plausible to you - or do you think there is nothing - just asking not wanting to argue points
stillstandin4you 1 year ago

@stillstandin4you:
your arguement is facetious, the concept of an intelligent designer assumes the deital state of that designer.
Tarantulus666 1 year ago
@Tarantulus666 facetious not to be taken seriously or literally - umm.. this is true - however you show your intelligence threw the assumption that i believe in ID i merely posed a question - doesnt have to reflect my views - i wanted to hear what he thought - and on top of that i presented no argument - for being a free thinker you sure didn't think about that one - fail
stillstandin4you 1 year ago
@stillstandin4you:
I assumed nothing, I simply pointed out an obvious flaw (or intentional bias depending on how you view it) in your question.
Tarantulus666 1 year ago
@Tarantulus666 ..so threw design the designer takes the role of God (you kind of worded this awkwardly) and by deital im going 2 assume u meant some form of deity (Google only pulled up dental) I would agree but if we ever re-create life r u saying that we will assume the role of a deity ...than I would not agree we die along w the stars n everything else but we would have been responsible for creating life
stillstandin4you 1 year ago
@stillstandin4you:
that's exactly what I'm saying. by creating life (on a universal scale, which is what I assume we are discussing) you take on the role of the deity, divinity is inherent in the act.
Tarantulus666 1 year ago
@Tarantulus666 - also a concept can not assume any role it's just a thought and a designer would be God of it's design not it's designer lol sorry so many posts - no rooom
stillstandin4you 1 year ago
@stillstandin4you: a concept? what concept? if we're talking about the concept of god, as an idea then your arguement is moot, and idea cannot create life. if we are referring to a literal (albeit hypothetical) designer then they must have corporeal form and therefore are not a concept. I'm not sure what you're getting at...
Tarantulus666 1 year ago
@Tarantulus666 im referring to your original post and i quote "the concept of an intelligent designer assumes the deital state of that designer" thats the word you choose to use - sad thing is lol the whole thing is just a concept and I would love to continue arguing this but unfortunately it looks as tho we are in agreement
stillstandin4you 1 year ago
@stillstandin4you
ah I see, my poor wording again!
Tarantulus666 1 year ago

@911dispatcher
Please, you sound like a schoolyard bully. stop attacking me and see if you can find a reasonable attack on evolution. I honestly would love to hear an argument that hasn't been refuted over and over again.
Tarantulus666 1 year ago
@911dispatcher The human eye also operates backwards and in some cases, is useless (blindness) = not so marvelous.
If the human body is simply too amazing for there not to be a god of some sort, then you must, by default, apply that same logic to a god. An all-powerful force of intelligence didn't make himself. By that logic, the cycle can go on and on and on through different levels of higher powers.
clicb4 1 year ago 12
@clicb4 Blindness is completely irrelevant to the point of the complexity of the eye. Your ignorance is understandable, but your pretense that you're not ignorant is shameful. You're arrogant and pretentious. It's perfectly obvious to a rational mind that everything couldn't come from nothing. We have a Book that claims it's the Book of God and that the Jews preserved it and it even tells of their worldwide dispersal and regathering, which occurred in 1948. Quit being so ignorant and stupid.

@clicb4 If god was an engineer, he'd have been fired for incompetence.
Tarantulus666 1 year ago
@clicb4 And the eye is hardly the only example in the body, or even the head, of clearly imperfect design. Our sinuses are at a poor angle compared to other mammals, and are prone to infection and filling with mucus, our spines are poorly adapted to take years of bipedal locomotion, the arches of our feet, the spaghetti mess of veins and nerves which take unnecessary detours... I don't see design when I look at us, but something more akin to retro-engineering.

@clicb4 if god is such a great designer why cancer exists? cancer is when your own cells go crazy and star atacking yourself.

@donnomar I never said he was a great designer.

@donnomar "cells go crazy" - this is amazing. All hail American "education".

@Ozlanthos That's one of the most hilarious analogy, that i agree with, I've seen for natural selection lol
htmlrules 1 year ago
@Ozlanthos Every word of your first two remarks are nothing more or less than pretentious nonsense, or, if you prefer, the imagination of a man based on NOTHING (I could have said based on opinion but that would be redundant).
Yet, you speak it like it's fact and reality, when the oldest verifiably dated history is only a handful of thousands of years. Talking "billions" of years like you know what you're talking about is laughable, because all you have is scientists with RELIGIOUS THEORIES.
911dispatcher 1 year ago
@911dispatcher Well tell me what makes you such a fucking expert? Nothing "religious" in my remarks. Just what I consider to be a "clean" (ie lacking religious, political, or even "scientific" (unless you want to include the fossil record...which we can consider "real" because it "exists") assertions theories, taints or leanings) perspective. Oh and btw, what fucking measurement of time are you using? The biblical assertion of a 6 thousand year old universe? GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!

@stillstandin4you using your logic, we should also be teaching the "brain in a jar" theory as alternative? google it if you didn't hear about it
napula123 1 year ago
@napula123 interesting - but this is nothing new - How do you prove you exist out side of my mind?? everything I perceive is threw my mind - how do I know you exist out side of it lol - well ...thinking about it - yes - why not - it can be healthy - but teaching it ...no - I don't see how you arrived at that conclusion using my logic lol but thanx for that
stillstandin4you 1 year ago
@stillstandin4you the logic is, it is a perfectly possible scenario (not probable), for which we have no direct evidence, yet you cannot disprove it...it is not a testable hypothesis, these are characteristics of both ID and "brain in a jar"...why should ID be taught as an alternative but not the "brain in a jar" theory?
napula123 1 year ago
@napula123 yes only one question when and where did I say that ID should be taught lol extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - If something can be presented with no evidence it can be dismissed with no evidence - I do not think either should be taught they could be mentioned as ideas or theories but not in the slightest as anything more
stillstandin4you 1 year ago
@stillstandin4you you did not say teach, sorry, but you get my point...the fact is id is not a new idea, we all know that, and sure you can mention it and it probably is mentioned in some philosophy classes, just like brain in a jar is mentioned in some philosophy classes, but there is NO REASON to mention it in opposition to evolution, since one is a scientific fact, and the other just an idea....you get my drill?
napula123 1 year ago
@napula123 yes I agree - I hope you didn't think I was saying creation is... logical - but I got to say I'm glad you showed me that BiaJ theory pretty interesting concept to ponder

@tommy56565
ThePrimith 1 year ago
@tommy56565 so you think that God Is illogical
Jak35ter 1 year ago
@Jak35ter - Can you explain to us how God is logical?
clicb4 1 year ago
@clicb4 well i guess that when you look at how everything came to be... the only logical scientific origin for all information is a singular intelligent designer. logically its the only thing that makes sense.
Jak35ter 1 year ago
@Jak35ter - I don't see how you figure it's the only logical conclusion, much less a scientific one. Science tends to say just the opposite of the Intelligent Design argument. Even if you go by that argument, you would need an origin for that designer, which Christians always say isn't necessary to make their case work for them.
clicb4 1 year ago
@Jak35ter How is that explanation either scientific or logical?
Woodsey14 1 year ago
@clicb4 well i will start this by asking a question... do you think that everything in life is meaningless...
does life have a meaning?
Jak35ter 1 year ago
@Jak35ter - If you're going for the argument that God gives our life meaning, I beg to differ. Let's just say that your god exists and that Christianity is true. What then? We spend our entire existence worshipping something that not only can we not see, hear or detect in any way shape or form, but we have to have faith that it exists? On top of that, why would you want to worship a being that demanded it? That's tyrannical. To answer though, we gives our lives our own meaning.
clicb4 1 year ago
@clicb4I believe the very greatest gift that God gave us was the WILL to do whatever we chose to do wheather to reject him or to accept him as the loving God that he is.
you can only not detect it in any form because you have closed your eyes as an athiest.. which means belief in no supernaturality.. By the very nature of your position.you have said.. "I dont want to believe that you exist, i am shutting my ears to you" is it any wonder you dont hear from him. he cannot make you open your eyes.
Jak35ter 1 year ago
@Jak35ter - Again, incorrect. Atheism is not the lack of a believe in supernaturality. It is simply the lack of a belief in a god or gods (just Zues or all the others also). You can still believe in any number of other supernatural things likes ghosts. What is the point in free will if God already has everything that's ever going to happen already cemented in a plan that cannot change. That would mean that he's already determined the outcome regardless of what any of us do. Think about it.
