  • would this work for a katana

  • This only took me like a few seconds on Skyrim :(

Great videos might i add. Alot to learn from it all :)

  • 5160 is good stuff but a pita to forge. 1084 is nicer. I like making my pattern-welded stuff out of 1084 and L6. OTOH, if you do your heat-treat right with 5160, you can make a sword that's damn near unbreakable.

  • @althesmith thanks, great comment.

  • is it mild steel or what?

  • nice anvil

  • Does it have be stainless steel? or just steel?

  • @snowboarderkid1994 just steel. not stainless

  • do you know were i could get decent beginner tools and an anvil for blacksmithing?

  • @qadthane craigslist or harbor freight

  • if you a rich and fortunate enough to own a backyard, have all of those tools including the gas pipe then this process is easy. if you are stuck in an apartment without all that what are you supposed to do?

  • @froglin anything is possible. Don't let obstacles stop you.

  • @epicfantasy Epic, how long does it usually take to heat it to correct temperature. I'm a teenaged aspiring blacksmith, and any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Where would I get my metal? What can I substitute for an anvil? Where would my coals be? A pit? Would a high grade grill work? Thanks!

  • @xbeast133 ten to 20 minutes. Depends on the fire and the metal/thickness. Amazon has the metal, links on my website too. A piece of railroad track works as an anvil. you need a setup with an airblower into it. pit, grill, doesnt matter as long as it has the air blower setup.

  • @epicfantasy Can i use o1 steel that is 1/8" thick,2" wide and 18" long?

  • @300spartanswin YEs, definitely

  • youre a fag for using sheet metal

  • @SuperShredder89 And you are an immature shit for judging someone for what they choose to use as building materials. Jackass.

  • @SuperShredder89 That's not sheet metal. Its a bar of O1 Steel.

  • @epicfantasy disregard somehow my response to another video ended up here i had watched one where a guy was using sheet metal and just forge welded it all together didnt fold or draw out and cut it to shape

  • @SuperShredder89 what else would he use?

  • aww look how it glows red it`s so cute xD Im gona kiss it.... Hey, just wondering how Do i actually locate Iron ore in the ground and how do i tell what kind of metal it is.. please im so curious to know.

  • @gustaverds dunno, that is probably quite an interesting a fun project though. wouldn't that be cool to mine and refine the ore first, then make a sword?

  • @gustaverds Iron ore is usually black, generally I don't know where to find it even though I think you can scrape the ground and get it or use gold panning which would take a lot of time when you can buy steel for dirt cheap basically anywhere. 2 cents a pound is what it trades for. You would then either have to make a molded sword which are never very good from a clay mould, or make ingots which are squares. then you would heat and hammer the squares into thinner metal for forgn

  • THANKS

  • Are you left handed? witch hand should i use to hit and witch one to hold.

  • shouldnt you put carbon in the steel to make it stronger

  • @Rikiman96 Great question. This type of steel already has the right percentage of carbon in it.

  • ok

  • what if u dont have a anvil or tongs

  • @cheesydan418 You can improvise.

  • @cheesydan418 Use a sludge hammer head, take big head and put it in a big solid peice of wood

  • would a steel kickplate work if it was the right dimensions?

    -Jake

  • @lithdom I am not sure. What''s a kickplate?

  • @epicfantasy The metal plating on a door, usually found in schools.

  • @epicfantasy um when you heat your steel it should be must brighter than that, it needs to be almost white in order for better quility

  • WHERE DO YOU BUY THE STEEL FROM DOES HOME DEPOT HAVE IT

  • @spidermanmgp amazon

  • ive seen the daedric sword your nickname shud be earlund grey mane lmao

    nice vid tho

  • u need to work on your hand placement on your hammer

  • @jdubbelu27 Thanks, you are absolutely right. Its getting better.

  • Do you do the speakng in ur vids afterwards as voiceover?

  • @SirMinecrafter1999 Yes, most of the time. I have got some new software so it should start going in both channels now.

  • I can't do this. I'd be too tempted to touch the hot part to see just how hot it is.

  • Does anyone know where I could by O1 Steel?

  • @Sparda1127 Amazon has it. I have links on my website to it too.

  • Are these swords functional or for decoration?

  • @MrZerostr This sword is functional.

  • WTF! you took all day long and you're a professional? we are going to forge tomorrow and our subject lasts for 3 hrs. O.o

  • @markdave3 Bit of an extreme project here. You have fun tomorrow! You will get some stuff done. Can't make a sword but you got to start somewhere!

  • @epicfantasy didn't knew forging would take a lot of time.. even if you're a pro.. tsk. i wonder if I could finish forging though.

  • @markdave3 There is no doubt that you could finish.

  • @epicfantasy how can you tell?

  • @markdave3 Forging is a long thing if you are a perfectionist.

  • Hey man, I was looking up the whole things, and noticed you didn't really say much about the anvil, so I've looked some up and saw that the sizes really go around, 60kg, 25kg, etc... Which kind of anvil is more apropriate for this? The biggest the better? Thx...

  • @HanSollo definitely the bigger the anvil the better! Get a 200 pounder at least if you can. More about anvils on my website.

  • @epicfantasy Ho, there... What about those blacksmiths that heat metal to the point it becomes molten metal and then spill it into a sword mold, so that the sword becomes that exact shape? Can you tell me what are those molds made of? And is that a common method? Sorry if the question seems silly xD

  • @HanSollo It is silly. No sword blades are cast. You've been watching too many bad Hollywood forging scenes.

  • @halfassedfart So you're saying that NO SWORD has ever been made by smelting? Because that was my question, about the smelting and the molds... Where did you evenr ead the word "cast"? =P

  • @HanSollo Molten metal and molds = cast.

  • @HanSollo cast is the word for molded metal and steel is hard to cast because of its hight melting point and cast is brittle and heavy

  • Where can I buy the steel?

  • @CountyRedNeck lol, no. It isnt much of a forge but it works well. The tube is just for the airflow and I use real lump hardwood charcoal. Hardwood lump coal works well . Not as good as real coal but still good. I have a vid here somewhere that shows theforge and how it is built, how it works.

  • @epicfantasy My brother makes knives and nails, and he has some expensive things he says I need if I want to make ANY of this. Is that true? Can I simply create a stainless steel sqaure that is thick, or do I have to get an anvil? Either way, my budget is 200-400$ every 2 weeks, so I can not afford a 500$ anvil. Help?

  • @GrapeFlavor12 You can improvise a whole lot of stuff when it comes to blacksmithing. Scrap metal, make a little forge. You can do this within budget to get yourself started. As you get better, learn more you will want better stuff. don't let anybody discourage you.

  • you ever try smelting

  • i found an anvil that is 100 LBS, would that be good enough for making knives and swords?

  • Can you cut metal with a forge?

Oh and my dad found me some metal so i'm gonna try this now :)

  • I WANNA BE A BLACKSMITH!!!

  • Wow, that is really cool. Thanks for the vid, and your really good at that!

  • why do stock removal? they don't have a SOUL like forged blades do. Yes, I have forged a few swords, even pattern welded ones (with and without power tools).

thanks for making a tutorial about this. the only other one on youtube is for a wooden sword !

  • @colwellk2 yes, great point. The only reason to make one by stock removal would be if you don't have access to a forge.

  • how hard would it be to make a sword using stock removal method?

  • @strhunter666 wow, great question. very hard. , so much work. but not impossible.

  • @epicfantasy challenge accepted :P 1/4 or 1/2 inch thickness?

  • @strhunter666 1/2 inch would be way too thick. Just too much stock to remove! go with the 1/4 inch. 3/16 would probably be even better.

  • Du sprichst Deutsch auch?! Da ist wunderbar! Ich lerne Deutsch in die Schule. (so some of my German is a little rough)

  • @ialarmu Your so funny :D Google translator is nice but the grammar isnt the best :)

  • @ialarmu LOL, maybe Google grammar will come out next ;)

  • plisssssssssssssssssssss make a captain america shield

  • would you make a captain america shild

  • @cawasairo53 someone on instructables made one with a satilite dish really good and cool

  • @Starfox384 i will see that one thanx but enywey i think that he would make an increadible captain ameria shield

  • @cawasairo53 true, he sould

  • hey man youre really2x great, this is a lot of work man i cant believe you could do all these things, love your vids man

  • Hey, epicfantasy. Could you possibly do a Roman scutum shield? You don't have to.

  • heres a tip when your done shaping the blade make sure to heat it at a high temp then when its red hot quench it in oil then grind away the dirt from the oil then heat it again in a lower temperature to not only get rid of grittyness and also harden it

  • ich Liebe lhre Kanal

  • @nemosowner Vielen Dank!

  • Yes thanks so much! I can't wait to finally start blacksmithing, i just need some steel :)

By the way, what could i use as an anvil?

  • @OCoptimusconvoy You can use a piece of railroad track. Time to get creative! Harbor freight sells anvils too.

  • @epicfantasy where did you get your hammer

  • @thnerfmoder Home Depot or Harbor Freight. I forget.

  • @epicfantasy okay thanks!

Do you think the rim of my fire pit would work?

  • @OCoptimusconvoy hmm, I am not sure that it will get hot enough.

  • @epicfantasy no, as an anvil

  • Dude. You're awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I won't forget yhu spongebob man.

  • Dude Im curious, whats this hobby called. I take it that it is a hobby :P

  • Alright Will! Can't wait to see the end result man.

  • how do get it sharpend

  • Are you left handed?

  • @jeff1212111 You are welcome! Thanks for watching.

  • Forging a sword is a tall order, especially a double edged one. Best of luck to you!

  • awesome vid. i've always heard about metal folds when people talk about katanas, do you know anything about that?

  • @yellowdogger I may do something like this in the future. Lot of work. Would be fun though.

  • dude ur really cool and u make amazing crafts but u make only swords and helmets ancient stuff try making like guns and stuf like that thumps if agree guys

  • @imminonice

    I really hope your joking,

  • @Iterca i am actually because u cant forge a gun of paper mache one

  • @imminonice I have some projects you might like. A tank =dragonslayer 5, A rocket Sword =Dragonslayer 4, and the RPG, Glass Bazooka, and the Sword of Lightning =dragonslayer 6.

  • @epicfantasy man u dnt have to do everything in the world because now ur really good in my opinion im just advising u to try doing other stuff and see what say they like do it again they dnt dont do it

  • @imminonice thx, I am always looking for ideas. Hit me with some ideas!

  • EPICFANCY i have a knife design on my other channel. THElasvegasHUNTER.. do u think u could make it... and if u say yes what would the price point be

  • Where do you get steel like that? :-/

  • @MR0KITTY Company called Starrett, Available on amazon. just search for 01 steel. You can also go to junkyards. Get some leaf springs from cars. Works really well.

  • @epicfantasy Leaf springs can be a pain for sword making though. They usually tend to be thicker than necessary and are harder to work with. 0-1 tool steel is one of the better steels for starting sword making. It has good edge retention, and heat treating is quite easy and forgiving. Sharpening it is a bit of a pain because it is a harder steel, so if you're using a grinding wheel it will chew through your stones.

It's a good choice for a strong sword that you won't have to sharpen often.

  • @Kisk79 Thanks for the great contribution. I love your channel. Post more vids :)

  • FINALLY! Been waiting almost a year at least for this! lol will ur awesome, thanks for all the vids :D

  • @nejikid You are very welcome! Thanks for sticking with my channel! More fun stuff coming.
