forgive my noobness, but would using an electronic tuner work using an electric guitar? would you use it (the tuner) when the guitar is plugged into an amp?
Justin, for someone who has owned a guitar for ages and finds these learning books near-impossible to understand (even for someone well-read like myself!!), these tutorials that you post are THE best learning guides in the world. I will keep u posted with my progress!!
Ive seen people tune their guitar on stage with a tuner pedal, how do u do it without it sounding through the amp? can someone please help, please dont think im stupid
when your tuning it using its own 5th fret, is it possible to do it starting with the e string at the bottom? Because i cant seem to get my EAD String in tune using sound.
Loving this stuff as a complete beginner justin. One question: I've bought the guitar toolkit app for my I phone and i've used that to tune my guitar. Seems ok?! Is this as good as electronic tuner? What's the best guitar app out there for a beginner?
listen to it in here, it sounds completely different when strummed because the low E is a meatier string, but the like resonance is the same, listen to the hum. it does take a while to get used to listening for it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE A GOD IN HAT AND JEANS!!!!!!!! i've been trying to get my guitar in tune for two hours then i ound your vid and its helped me in ten million ways thanks so mcuh your amazing justin :D
Hey Justin, I've got this problem... I have electric guitar, but dont have acoustic. So I try to play both - rock music with distortion and simple party songs with no effects (only amp vol. up). When I tune my guitar I do it same like you and it tunes perfectly for playng simple clean chords. But when I put on distortion and try playin power chords, they do not sound right - I have to tune the strings a lil more... Why is this happening? Why do I need to retune it (though only a little bit)?
well it depends on the type of tuners and guitar and strings you have... if you have like a wall-mart guitar or like a toys r us guitar your going to have to tune it waaay more. so maybe thats your probelm.. i dont really know just a guess
if you are using a tuner, you must hit the strings rapidly as you are tuning, because the natural decay of the string will cause your tuner to think the string is flat. make sure each string is in tune right when it is plucked, not seconds after. You must also make sure the guitar is in tune with itself- that the low e string is enharmonic to the 2nd fret 4th string note of E. That's about it. Think about it carefully.
Hey im using some computer free tuners, you just need the microphone or if you have electric plug in your sound card in pc. Its definitly not perfect but for beginners good enough in my opinion :)
Unless your only interest in the guitar is to play Kum Ba Yah while sitting around the camp fire, learn how to tune the guitar like Justin is showing you. Using an electronic tuner is just fine, but not until you can tune a guitar to itself in your sleep. Its the equivalent of knowing how to do math on a piece of paper vs. using a calculator. You need to know math first, right? Get an "A" 440 tuning fork, tune the "A" string first then finish using the 5th fret method. Then get an electronic!
does anyone know if there are groups of audio files out there that can be downloaded onto an ipod so you can just play it through you stereo and play it?
if not i bet if someone set up a website like that they would make a killing
you need to CHUNE the guitar, it needs to be CHUNED up... I love your accent, man. <3

@ZebraDog7 exactly.
sweetestpoison16 1 year ago
@ZebraDog7 you just tune the guitar to itself so it is in tune to itself but not in tune in the world... atleast you'll sound good.

Get a Yamaha f310. Very cheap and sounds amazing, pros use it as even if you are a beginner or a real musician it gives an amazing quality.

for example, at that first moment when the guitar is tuned plucking the 5th fret low e string and open A string
they sound different to me
it maybe just how loud it was.. but i cudn't get it right..
