I spoke to him on the phone yesterday, his daughter is my boss :D I was stunned out of boredom, he's like "Hi this is Peter Combe is Joni there?" And I'm like "Hi Peter Combe! :D"
@dosh124 How can you say that? Come on now, that's a bit harsh isn't it? How can you call Peter Combe a pedophile? Is it because he's a guy? I'm sorry, but you've got it so wrong here.
Saw Peter perform live last night at the Colonial Hotel in Melbourne. Place was absolutely packed and many had to be turned away. Was awesome, and it was the first time I'd seen him perform live since Grade Prep in 1988. The place went off, and I can assure you, the man certainly still has it. I know my kids will be listening to his songs growing up (That's when I have them!!!)
Peter rocks! And he's a great person. Met him twice now at adult gigs. Was hilarious watching 20-somethings walking down the Valley mall with toffee apples on their cheeks and newspaper hats haha. And then after the gig, the same pple but drunk and singing the songs out wildly haha
I remember when I was in primary school I use to think this song was about my mum because she use to deliver the local newspapers everyday around town. lol
I brought the original record of Newspaper Mama off eBay a few months ago...I had it on tape when I was a kid but it was a selection of songs from the album titled Songs from Newspaper Mama...I also used to watch this on my ABC Video Hits video, it was great
man i loved his music , especially his christmas carol album , i had his other ones too , but i could hardly wait till the end of the year to play his carols one :D
Unfortunately I wasn't born in time to enjoy the classic kids' music of the late-80s (eg Peter Combe, Don Spencer)...all I had to put up with as a kid was The Wiggles...shame...
what was with the making fun of the queen bit i don't remember that at all!!!!!!! hahahaha! love this song though, haven't heard it in 15 years, makes me so happy!
This brings back SO SO SO many memories for me. Makes me smile every time I watch it. My dad took me to see him live once and I got his autograph.... I must have been about 7. Does any one know where he is and/or what he's up to these days?
ive met him twice. In fortidue valley a year ago he was doing a gig for adults, and you saw heaps walking around the city in paper hats hahaha.
then i saw him at a gig mainly for the kids but i dont think they were into it really as much as we did. Adults go NUTS!! Esp with mr clickety cane hahaha
@diipalika hey plays in pubs now for ppl like us lol I had the news pappa mamma tape and the toffee apple tape. He came to our school when i was in prep :)
Oh man I'm sitting here grinning like a moron; makes me wish I was in primary school all over again; except that I'd have to endure high school again...
this was my favourite song when i was younger, brings back great memories, and i just saw peter combe on 'spicks and specks' on the ABC and he sang newspaper mama, made my week.
This brings back a lot of memories for me! I am in that clip, I remember that was a very fun 4 days of filming. That is the short version though, cause I remember it used to run for AGES when it played on the ABC.
Hey guys we're trying to get enough support to get Peter Combe at the Big Day Out! If you'd be up for seeing Peter play, please join the 'Peter Combe for Big Day Out' Facebook Group! Cheers!!
@Gabbort Right on mate, sadly The Wiggles had already toppled Peter Combe from power as the king(s) of Aussie children's music when I began watching ABC...all I had was Songs from Newspaper Mama on tape.
I remember this song when I was 8 n that would be around 1989, haven't heard this song in 20 years!!! Good to see stuff like from my childhood years again :)
No one is catering for the older kids (7 to 12) any more thus they are forced to either watch wiggles on the younger end or Brittney on the older end this is sad.
I love the Christmas concert he did, and i was actually there for that!!!! Does anyone have the whole thing that they could upload? I used to have the VHS but don't know where that is.
The best, the 80s were THE BEST, how i miss them. Today's generation just can't understand. LOL now i sound like the old people i used to hear saying things like that when i was a kid, that's scary.
Wow you're only 20 & you remember this? I'm 30 now & i was in grade 2 or 3 when this was around, so i was between 8 & 9 years old, so that means you wouldn't have even been alive yet.
yeah my parents had the tapes from my older cousins and played them to me when I was in early primary school, so I appreciated him a bit after he released the songs. He was so rad that more than one generation got to live it!
I saw him at the metro in sydney last year and everyone wore newspaper hats and brought toffee apples. When this song came on everyone formed a mosh pit and went nuts.
He even signed mine my newspaper hat and I still have it. Absolute legend.
I still love this song! I still have the original video with all of his songs! Just marvelous! Still entertaining, I will make sure my kids will one day watch him too!
I loved his gig. It was so funny going up Brunswick Street in teh Valley and seein pple wearing newspaper hats haha. and its like ah i wonder where you are going tonight And some pple were randomly singing/yelling lines out to strangers in the mall haha
and we sung happy bday to him to coz his bday was the day berfore
just saw him at the amplifier bar in perth...one of the best gigs ive been to in a long time...there is a lot to be said for nostalgia, songs about nothing, and simple catchy tunes
