WOW!!!!!! Well I've watched all of your unfiltered versions and I have to tell you first how proud I'm of YOU and the NEW found of RESPECT I have for YOU!!! I've always admired you on so many levels and now you've elevated that once again. Thank you for being honest and forth right, not just in your story, but history with in itself. I'll always remember the chemistry between Jody, Jeffery, & Howard. There was magic there.... and it cannot be duplicated with new members.... They are, and will forever be, "Three for Love".

I agree, the producers of Unsung started the episode with Jodi winning Best New Artist, as if it's her "fault" that Shalimar couldn't be reunited.
Howard and Shalimar had the Footloose hit "Dancing in the Sheets" post Jodi, so why didn't Dick pressure Delisa or Micki to reunite with Shalimar? Well, I don't recall Delissa or Micki singing lead on any mega Shalimar hit like Jodi did.
Seems like Dick wanted her back for a reunion to use her for his own financial gain.
I'm glad that you spoke about them reuniting for Babyface's cover of For The Lover In You. That video got lots of airing on BET, and I felt that the video should have featured more footage of You Jeffrey and Howard out of respect. I do understand you wanting to move on since Howard and Jeffrey felt u deserved less. Please. You handled the situation like a lady.
I used to hope to see a reunion of you guys the Original Shalamar. but after watching this , that would be hard, although I do believe onstage you guys would still WOW the crowd. When VH1 used to hae a show - bands reunited, i remember submitting youre name to the website.
Jody, I grew up on Shalamar and your music as a solo artist. I just discovered your page and I wanted to say thanks for all the work you put into entertaining us over the years.
I understand and accept your reasons why you won't do a reunion. Now that I know the story, I wouldn't want you to get up there again with Howard and Jeffrey if your heart wasn't really in it. It would not be a good show anyway if the chemistry is dead.
Keep doing your solo stuff or whatever else makes you happy.
Kudos to Jody for doing her own thing. I know if I was in her shoes, all this pushing for a reunion would make me want it even less. Maybe it's an Aquarian thing. Either way, no disrespect to Howard or Jeffrey, but when I saw Howard lamenting about what could’ve been, I thought "just leave it, already." That reuniting all these years later would put them over the top again is just unrealistic. Sometimes the past (and indeed, the present) is best served by leaving the past where it ought to be.
Now that Dick gone, more of the public blame has shifted to HH! This brotha can sang & has recorded some great solo records, but why has no one in the industry told him to do right by Jody!
Factoid: All lead singers, rock, pop or country, DO NOT reap the most finacially of the groups they sang for! With them now being in their 50's, he & JD look & sound like bitter fools in their radio interviews & why no SANE music executive has NOT told them is a damn shame as well! The male R&B ego is a MF!

For years Solar's retold their indirect, zigzag PR fable to the public and as disheartening as it is for me to accept, the pulbic bought into this almost imaginative myth of Shalamar being a happy-go-lucky assemblage.

@indaplace2b first of all, Jody had no hand in the demise of Shalamar (what the public fail to understand, and you), the group continued after she departed, garnishing a hit before reforming itself into a revolving door of faceless singers and now a kareoke assemblage, the group itself demise occured when Griffey forced them to work and not pay them their worth, not just the singers, but also his staff. Jody was smart enough to know when a train has reached it's final destination and get off!

@indaplace2b in all honesty the group's demise should be placed on the head of Jeffrey Daniel since he walked away first, moved to London, though contractualy binded to fulfill his position as a memeber, refused to record on the Look album, leaving Jody, Howard and Leon (Sylvers) to record in his place. After Dick talked with Daniel, explaining the 'WHAT IF's' if he didn't cooperate, did he rejoin the group. So, my issues with folk like you, the lack of facts, and that's all we're dealing with.

I'm glad to have gotten the real story from your mouth. Women have always had a difficult time when we stand up for ourselves and when our agenda don't mesh with the men we work with. I was in asingle digit age when Shalamar came out, but a teen when you had your solo career and I absolutely loved you! I was vaguely familiar with Shalamar, but really & truly discovered that music because of your solo success. I wish you continued success in whatever endeavors you chose to take part in!

As for Jody,a very honest and heartfelt explanation and the fact those revelations were left out of Unsung, only goes to show some don't like to admit THEY ARE WRONG.

I think it's cool that you shared this with everyone....and not because it makes everyone that loves the group love or hate any one of you more than the next, just because it rings true and it just feels good to hear it from you. It would be beautiful if you guys could find "the chemistry" that despite the madness, truly once was. The harmonious spirit and talent of you and Howard was real. Not just hits, those songs represented experiences that were the soundtrack to a time in the life of many.
@shaftunlimited1 , I'm looking at other web blogs right now that were more supportive of Jody Watley's decision refusal of a reunion. Both lalahhathaway's and Prince-dot-org blog was good.
@stanleyballard, Lalah Hathaway and Prince both did a topic on Jody Watley Unsung. Both blogs are old though and when i re-read over certain posts some defended Jody and some were not so nice. But i do understand everybodies not going to agree.

I really liked the ending to this video, I was always wondering about Leon Sylvers, and Gerald Brown- what they looked like now a days- and it would be nice if you and Gerald would put out a song together, the both of you have a beautiful, unigue and quality to your voices. I don't WANT a Shalamar reunion after learning about all this. And sorry but if they are not touring with Jody Watley it is NOT a Shalamar reunion. @MrCovering that's definitely Mr. Gerald Brown....make no mistake, and Howard was HIS replacement. Though Gerald was in the group for only one album (which was Shalamar's first hit LP) he played a very significant part in the group's history. In replacing Brown, Griffey hired Howard because the two voices were comparable and the masses wouldn't be as dubious to his behind the scene motives, by robbing the public of the truth, and Brown of money that was owed to him by Griffey.
@MrCovering I would say Howard's tears (if there were any) would be more sincere than Jeffrey's. @MrCovering Back in the day, right before Jeffrey and Stephanie married, Shalamar was recording 'Friends' at Studio Masters when Daniel's positioned he and Mills directly in front of Jody while she recorded her vocial tracks so that she would have to watch the couple make out on the sofa. Jeffrey had just left Jody to be with Stephanie a few days earlier, so the wound was very fresh from one hurt to receive, yet, another one of many daggers plunged in her back, once again by Daniel.

@NubianFeenx I said this on another one of the Unfiltered series, but I totally agree. Jody's voice is what made the sound of the group. I have a singing group, and we always refer to the member's whose voice glues the other two together as the "Jody" of the group. She is an excellent artist. Saw her live in Philly, and I did not miss the Shalamar songs at all. She looks great, sounds greats, and gives an A class performance!
@NubianFeenx Agreed. Jody's evolving sound made that group because she has so much postential and her range and tone is very consistant live as well as in the studio. Additionally, post Shalamar she would draw many into the group had Babyface done a "reunion" album & tour. HH & JD should have negotiated with care & they should have much respect for Jody as the most successful member of the group to this day who has grown tremendously as a singer, songwriter, performer, etc.

I agree, the producers of Unsung started the episode with Jodi winning Best New Artist, as if it's her "fault" that Shalimar couldn't be reunited.
Howard and Shalimar had the Footloose hit "Dancing in the Sheets" post Jodi, so why didn't Dick pressure Delisa or Micki to reunite with Shalimar? Well, I don't recall Delissa or Micki singing lead on any mega Shalimar hit like Jodi did.
Seems like Dick wanted her back for a reunion to use her for his own financial gain.

I understand and accept your reasons why you won't do a reunion. Now that I know the story, I wouldn't want you to get up there again with Howard and Jeffrey if your heart wasn't really in it. It would not be a good show anyway if the chemistry is dead.

Kudos to Jody for doing her own thing. I know if I was in her shoes, all this pushing for a reunion would make me want it even less. Maybe it's an Aquarian thing. Either way, no disrespect to Howard or Jeffrey, but when I saw Howard lamenting about what could’ve been, I thought "just leave it, already." That reuniting all these years later would put them over the top again is just unrealistic. Sometimes the past (and indeed, the present) is best served by leaving the past where it ought to be.

(I'm actually indifferent in reguards to any of the members...).I've watched many of these unsung interviews and i havent once heard Jody say she ever did any wrong in any of the dealings of Shalamar... Almost as if she was an innocent party ... I find that VERY hard to believe. When you look deep enough, there isnt one innocent party!

For years Solar's retold their indirect, zigzag PR fable to the public and as disheartening as it is for me to accept, the pulbic bought into this almost imaginative myth of Shalamar being a happy-go-lucky assemblage.

@indaplace2b first of all, Jody had no hand in the demise of Shalamar (what the public fail to understand, and you), the group continued after she departed, garnishing a hit before reforming itself into a revolving door of faceless singers and now a kareoke assemblage, the group itself demise occured when Griffey forced them to work and not pay them their worth, not just the singers, but also his staff. Jody was smart enough to know when a train has reached it's final destination and get off!

@indaplace2b in all honesty the group's demise should be placed on the head of Jeffrey Daniel since he walked away first, moved to London, though contractualy binded to fulfill his position as a memeber, refused to record on the Look album, leaving Jody, Howard and Leon (Sylvers) to record in his place. After Dick talked with Daniel, explaining the 'WHAT IF's' if he didn't cooperate, did he rejoin the group. So, my issues with folk like you, the lack of facts, and that's all we're dealing with.

@indaplace2b your purpose of your statement on this particular page after viewing so many of these UNFILTERED series are really questionable. Why would you follow a series of a person, or group you, and I quote, again, "actually indifferent in reguards to any of the members" doesn't make sense why you ventured here. Being on this page and not a fan makes as much sense as going to a rock fight with a bag of sand! It's not the size of issues, it's the motives behind YOUR statement I question.

I'm glad to have gotten the real story from your mouth. Women have always had a difficult time when we stand up for ourselves and when our agenda don't mesh with the men we work with. I was in asingle digit age when Shalamar came out, but a teen when you had your solo career and I absolutely loved you! I was vaguely familiar with Shalamar, but really & truly discovered that music because of your solo success. I wish you continued success in whatever endeavors you chose to take part in!

As for Jody,a very honest and heartfelt explanation and the fact those revelations were left out of Unsung, only goes to show some don't like to admit THEY ARE WRONG.
Jody has moved on and for a positive reason.Howard and Jeffrey have some of the blame for that in the past.
I AM surprised at these revelations but now i know it helps you to see the bigger picture.

I think it's cool that you shared this with everyone....and not because it makes everyone that loves the group love or hate any one of you more than the next, just because it rings true and it just feels good to hear it from you. It would be beautiful if you guys could find "the chemistry" that despite the madness, truly once was. The harmonious spirit and talent of you and Howard was real. Not just hits, those songs represented experiences that were the soundtrack to a time in the life of many.

I really liked the ending to this video, I was always wondering about Leon Sylvers, and Gerald Brown- what they looked like now a days- and it would be nice if you and Gerald would put out a song together, the both of you have a beautiful, unigue and quality to your voices. Ms. Watley you rock! Jeffrey and Howard are very talented men but unfortunately they apparently suffer from the typical narcissistic and misogynistic behavior of so many men in their position. I don't WANT a Shalamar reunion after learning about all this. And sorry but if they are not touring with Jody Watley it is NOT a Shalamar reunion. And it is too bad that Black music reunions are not A-list. Thank you for this!

I'm glad she finally spoke about her Jeffrey and Howard reuniting with Babyface and LL for the remake of For The Lover In You as well as not having bitterness with Jeffrey & Howard. I'm so glad that she has former member Gerald Brown FINALLY having the opportunity to give his side of what happened with him & Dick Griffey.

Shalamar made an extreme amount of money for Solar, but earned very little, almost next to nothing for themselves, and as a past employee of Solar myself, I was raked in more $ than what the group received in weekly SALARIES. Gerald Brown's exit for leaving the group was valid 'LACK OF MONEY'S OWED."In better terms, the dry screws he was receiving became just a little uncomfortable for him!

@MrCovering that's definitely Mr. Gerald Brown....make no mistake, and Howard was HIS replacement. Though Gerald was in the group for only one album (which was Shalamar's first hit LP) he played a very significant part in the group's history. In replacing Brown, Griffey hired Howard because the two voices were comparable and the masses wouldn't be as dubious to his behind the scene motives, by robbing the public of the truth, and Brown of money that was owed to him by Griffey.

@MrCovering Back in the day, right before Jeffrey and Stephanie married, Shalamar was recording 'Friends' at Studio Masters when Daniel's positioned he and Mills directly in front of Jody while she recorded her vocial tracks so that she would have to watch the couple make out on the sofa. Jeffrey had just left Jody to be with Stephanie a few days earlier, so the wound was very fresh from one hurt to receive, yet, another one of many daggers plunged in her back, once again by Daniel.

Myself and another ex-employee (who was close friend to Griffey's oldest daughter, Regina) Knew all... Jermaine had developed a bond w/Mills, and the two women found a medium and respect for one another. But truth be told, and I must tell it, it was Jeffrey who was at the hem of all that was going wrong with his marriage!

@NubianFeenx I said this on another one of the Unfiltered series, but I totally agree. Jody's voice is what made the sound of the group. I have a singing group, and we always refer to the member's whose voice glues the other two together as the "Jody" of the group. She is an excellent artist. Saw her live in Philly, and I did not miss the Shalamar songs at all. She looks great, sounds greats, and gives an A class performance!

@NubianFeenx Agreed. Jody's evolving sound made that group because she has so much postential and her range and tone is very consistant live as well as in the studio. Additionally, post Shalamar she would draw many into the group had Babyface done a "reunion" album & tour. HH & JD should have negotiated with care & they should have much respect for Jody as the most successful member of the group to this day who has grown tremendously as a singer, songwriter, performer, etc.
