One thing (among many) that I like about Lou Reed is there is always this thread of nonseriousness that runs through a good bit of his work (not in his music but in his lyrics and the way he presents them with his vocal).
@TheNEWfilmfanatic99 That's interesting and not so strange but I'm British and to me John's accent has always sounded like an unexceptional educated Welsh accent. In 'Uptight: The Story of the Velvet Underground', with reference to the song/story 'The Gift', I think someone mentions that John delivers the text in his 'best BBC English'. That's always struck me as a good description.

Berlin is all about ART, individuals and social issues !!! It's probably the greatest album I've ever heard. There is no such a thing as art if it's not capable of conveying all the pain and distress we all go through in this life
Honest, this is one of the greatest albums ever made. You either love it or hate it. I was a rock reviewer at my college paper and I listed it as the greatest album of the 1970's. That caused quite an uproar.
That cassette was stuck in my deck for most of a year, 1979. That and the Sex Pistols Never Mind the Bollocks. Everyone thinks that Berlin is horribly depressing, but I was *happy* that whole year!
I was the happiest person on Earth! Berlin need not make you depressed. Berlin is art!

Why are some artists so underrated? Because they can express more than an average person can understand. Most of the people are satified with soulless and mainstream music and they don't even try to listen to something that can be really called art.
@xXPinkGoddessXx Not true. According to Lou, anyway. Ezrin asked his kids to cry as real as possibly, and the youngest one got carried away a bit, that's why it sounds so desperate. But anyway, who knows if this is the truth.
@xXPinkGoddessXx Maybe a bit overstated. In the radio interview of Lou Reed that I have he merely stated that they put the kids in another room for a short while.Never heard that heartwrenching tale to go along though...
Come on,who in their right mind would tell their kids such a horrible thing.
You can just hear that the kids dont believe Mummy is dead.
Mu-myyyhieee!!!!!At the end.Annoyed maybe,but not heartbroken.
I am a Mummy and I frequently hear these cries.And I,m very much alive.NAH!
