  • These kids are going to be so messed up when they grow up. I agree with Paul Petersen... And since Kate s new movie star look i and hope you can see it was done just for the money. never mind the kids. I feel sorry for him. She always was putting him down.. And washing her hand a thousand times an hour.....

  • I agree with paul. I know they needed subport with money to raise this family, but the kids are out of control as is easy to see. And kate your a rotten mother. Your washing your hands every ten seconds is bad enough but your feelings for your husband is to say the least is awful... Your in need of mental help...

  • They are getting divorced

  • I like how they say that they'll only do the show "as long as the kids are comfortable with it."

Uh, hello? The kids are FOUR, and the cameras have been around since before they could retain memories. They don't have the ability to decide whether or not they're comfortable with cameras: that's a parent's role!

Oh, Kate. How I can't stand you.

  • EXACTLY! Oh my, I thought I was the only one you thought that!

It needs to be over with.

  • I just saw on ET the interview of Jon and Kate. Jon was tired of the popularity and fame. He knew that he could never go back to the way things were. Anyway, Kate's brother and sister in law(I think) were in an interview saying Kate gave Jon a contract recently saying that he can have girlfriends and date and still do the show together.

  • well season 5 is coming i dont think peter did a good job on cancelling the show

  • The kids have the luxury of a mom who can stay home and take care of them.....???

  • The 1 post said it well,I'm sure they dont give a rats ass who likes them, they have financial security. And Ive had many hours of entertainment from watching the show, win win situation, dont like it , dont watch. Plus, I'd do it in a SECOND!

  • Pimps - pure and simple

  • argh these people need to get over it and find something else to trash i mean its the parents decisions geezs -----btw i love the show "jon & kate plus 8"

  • People are stupid, Its not like they have an episode for every day of their life. They get plenty of time to themselves.

  • Well actually they get the money from the company and then they get to go on the adventures that they flim and they pay it the company pays the adventures

  • Oh, because having eight kids totally does NOT put a hole in your pocket. :/ I mean, offered the job with that many kids, who would say no to the money ?

  • Though I love the show and love watching the kids grow, I have to agree with the man. There will be psychological consequences. For example, take the Dionne quintuplets and their warning to the McCaughey septuplets about keeping the kids out of the public eye. I think the show should end in the near future for the kids sake.

  • child labor? thats BS. Exploiting? HEY they didnt turn multi millionaires doing this show ok. Its good for them, for their 8 kids. There MAY be some changes in the kids bcos of cameras around them, but they're not child stars. STUPID IDIOT.

  • These "jealousy" comments make no sense. If you feel they are doing something wrong and criticize them for it, you might call it being judgemental. But jealous? No.

Read some of the articles on the internet about this family. Even their own friends and relatives don't all agree with what they have done.

  • No, it's not exploiting them. And this is driving me crazy! That lady keeps pronouncing it "Gossalin" it's pronounced "Gosslin"but spelled Gosselin. Whatever. Exploiting is just using them for money. Well, they do earn money. But do they think people are going to just film them all day and not pay them??? They didn't plan on having eight kids! They went for one, got two. Went for one more, got six. The kids are just being themselves. The cameramen and women just tape their normal life. It's okay

  • they are not using there kids by any means-i agree it might be difficult having the camera around 3-4 times a week, but im sure they're used to it. the only kid i see that may have a problem with the cameras is mady.

  • Jon and Kate even say that the kids don't have to be there when the cameras are there, they can go to friends houses if they want to.

  • Kate is a lucky lady!!! Most men cant even take care of themselves......by choice of course ;)

  • Oh and about the Gosselins getting free trips and gifts - without this show, I bet my bottom dollar that the Gosselins would be living off of your tax dollars, how else could they? Would you rather have that than corporate gifts or donations?

  • Okay, so I ask all you critics - do you fault celebrities for having babies? Their lives are in front of camera's too.

Fact is without this show these kids wouldnt have nearly the same quality of life as they are having now. I dont live in the Gosselins home (and neither do you might I add!) so how can you presume on their well being? From the looks of it, the kids are happy and healthy and well behaved for being in such a large family.

  • A bunch of lies! They are not exposing our kids!

  • If it's altering the kids behaviour then hopefully Mady will start behaving more and the little ones will stop being screamers....oh wait, that's like any other family buddy.

  • that guy is a jerk. Jon and kate arent using their kids for money gains. They didnt even plan on having those many kids so you know they are not in it for the money. And they need the extra cash so those kids can have a good life and go to university. And 4 and 8 year olds dont need to have secrets.

  • Lets all take a grip on reality the botton line is Jon and Kate are living off their kids, it is just a fact. They could have stopped with the twins. Kate is never home, and now they have a Viatnamese nany/cook...there getting paid BIG BUCKS for this, so yes part of why they are doing this is FOR THE MONEY...look at the new house they just bought, the taxes alone would kill the average family, but they get all kinds of FREE STUFF......we is our free stuff

  • That's ridiculous. Everyone has a right to privacy, even four and eight year olds. If they "dont need to have secrets", why not parade them around naked all the time? Everyone deserves a little dignity.

  • I wouldn't say there's not financial motive here. But the kids are certainly well treated and cared for, and that guy is definitely out of line regarding that statement. But I don't believe for a moment that the parent's aren't enjoying all the cash they're bringing in.

  • Kids are adorable and I love the show! I don't see why can't the family work together to earn some college funds for the kids!

  • Wow you ppl are sad everyone keep spewing hate for Jon and Kate and untill you have had 8 kids and twins keep your 2 cents to yourself. Who cares if they get free things. I know ppl keep point out there flaws .why dont you get a damn life and let them alone if you dont like them dont watch the show .Haters!! I am sure jon and kate care not they are warm and snug in their new 1.3 million $ house not caring one bit

  • I think most people are just jealous. Kate is the happiest woman in the world. She is a television star and gets to run a family of 10. John barely even factors in. The show is really all about Kate.

  • If you watch "ALL" the episodes you will remember that Jon got a new job which allows him to work from home. He doesn't have to talk about his work because the show is not about his work, it's (primarily) about Mady, Cara, Hannah, Joel, Leah, Alexis, Collin, and Aaden. I think it's far fetched to say that Jon and Kate are selling out their "kids' childhoods.' If you don't like the show, then don't watch it.

  • assssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss holeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee s

  • im so with you on that one

  • jon hasn't mentioned worked because it a show that focuses on the children. and jon said that his job allows him to work from home, their good parents, and i see there doing nothing wrong. ive seen every single episode mutiple times. they dont need to show Jon heading off to work as much as they use to. their loving and great parents!

  • check out eps party painting w pudding,(she wouldnt allow actual paint) how can she not expect them to eat the pudding or get messy DUH!

she seems too stiff and an outsider when the kids are involved w something fun

doesnt seem she wanted kids at all. she complains and dictates

more conserned w being tidy and clean than letting kids b kids (doesnt matter how many u have)

    cin

  • She's a neat freak; she can't help it. Maybe having so many toddlers has brought that out even more. But, letting her kids paint and do messing things shows she cares about them. As a viewer it does get annoying to watch that side of her, however it is entertainmentproducers choose what we watch.

  • re the mom, if u see anything remotely fun (normal parties, games, painting etc)4 the kids to do shes so stiff & millitary she doesnt join in w the kids, she stays an outsider dictating & complaining, seems the dad is more involved , shes more concerned w keeping things tidy & clean than allowing her kids to have FUN(being kids), doesnt seem she wanted kids in the 1st place. see the eps when they get to paint w pudding, how can u not expect the kids to eat pudding?? or get messy??? DUH!

    cin

  • she let them eat the pudding....

  • If you really watched the show you'd recall hearing that they only film about 4 days a week so yeah maybe Jon isn't working on those days but what about when they aren't filming. If my employee had 8 kids I'd let him make his own schedule too. Seriously who goes that far as to call them out for being liars because of some false observations about Jon's job? Imagine all that they can do for their children because of that show. Yeah, they look really distressed while smiling into the cameras...

  • I love this show, but I do think they maybe should have stopped it by now. At first it was just interesting for others to see how they managed that many children. But as they get older, I really think it's not good for the kids. Most of you criticize them making money from the show. Do you forget how EXPENSIVE raising just one kid is? Diapers, food, clothing, laundry detergent, etc. for a family of 10 would be astounding.

  • why so serious?

  • i really love this show and i understand that is very difficult to take care of eight kids and two adults.please tell me what the hell thit you will do if you were in the same position~ i think jon a kate nows how to play their cards and they are just tryging the best for the kids..and btw if you see the show the kids are very happy! they dont seem like the camera crew bhother they at all

  • john & kate +8, i love the show. i'm glad life is easier for them now and they no longer have to question how they're going to make it w/ 8 kids. i don't really see how they're selling out their kids' childhoods. trips to disney world? the beach? what child does not want that? i hope for many seasons to come!

  • I think this is ridiculous. The cameras are not there every single day - probably once a month. And he said that children should have secrets and quiet? Um, they have 8 kids... it's not going to be quiet!

  • I see nothing wrong with the show...she has 8 kids!!! She is securing a future for them....I'm tired of jealous people making negative comments...You have that many kids and see what you'd do...I love their show...not only is it entertaining..it shows its viewers what it's like to take care of that many kids...and yes I know they receive help but so would you!

  • That guy is an idiot......if they want to film they can its not a big deal! What about the Little People Big World show they got alot of kids?

  • he stopped full time IT annalist and went to part-time, it you watched all the episonde youd know THAT.

  • He quit his job completely in Feb. 2008

  • This clip seems out of context besides the fact that I live near the Gosslins and know that the kids are treated well. Kate and John: live it up. You only get 1 chance. I hope your kids reap the benefits of America's taste for reality television...college money, solid finiances for the future.

  • Leave it to mainstream media to generate a controversy out of nothing, as usual. The Gosselin kids are not violating Child Labor Laws any more than Michael Jackson or Olsen twins were when they were on TV as kids. John and Kate stated on tv that the cameras are only there 3 days a week. To say John and Kate are immoral I leave this question for thought: If they were so immoral, then why, when recommended by doctors, didn't they abort any of their children when they found out their pregnacy?

  • John and Kate are doing what God has willed them to do. We at home watching the show love to see what it's like raising 8 kids so we watch, and in return they get help paying bills. If anyone else out there had the choice to have a camera follow them around and stay at home or put your kids in shady daycare centers while working 40 hours a week, which would you choose? Duh!!! They were blessed with this opportunitiy so why turn it down? I love the show and I love that they are sharing the story

  • i just heard dat....kate's said all the crew just only record them only 3 or 4 times a week....and all the show is recorded when they are in holiday or when they have special vacation and occasion.... i think...

  • You're an idiot. John USED to work as an IT specialist, that's right. In the first season he is always at work. Now he works helping out his friend who has his own business, and can stay at home and spend more time with the kids. What's so bad about that?

  • Maybe you should watch the show more clearly. He works for a local company in PA and he is able to make his own schedule and even work from home. But if this show is about the kids and what its like to raise them, why would they show John going and coming home from work.

  • omg !!!!!!

  • This is a bunch of c*rap!!!!!

  • Their life is their show and their show is their life. Yes, Jon has a job. yes, im sure they get discounts at places like Disney only bc its avertisement but really, would u turn deals down if u had to get 8 kids and 2 parents to disney? and yes, they probably do get payed for the show, they have too. Jon makes enough so they do not live off the show.and the Gosselins and Duggars practicly have the same reason for their shows : They want to let ppl see what its like.

  • Get real. You think they PROBABLY get paid for the show? They get around $65,000 per episode, PLUS all the freebies/trips you see on the show. Jon stopped working a long time ago, just like Kate. They're also getting a free 8000 SF house with a pool and pool house. Look this up on Google if you don't believe me. "Gosselins Without Pity"

  • I meant to hit reply not spam on your comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, Jon no longer has a job. They live only on the money they make from the show. Just thought I'd let you know.

  • Imagine them taking the kids to a babysitter or putting them in daycare. Not sure how much they would be charged for that. With john working and the family filming shows it's more money for them. Kate said they'll keep doing it as long as the kids are comfortable with it. When the kids don't want to do it anymore then they will stop filming shows. Besides, kate likes staying home with the kids and getting paid for it. I understand that. I'm not worried about them.

  • I see nothing wrong with their shows. Kate even said they'll keep doing it as long as their kids are comfortable with it. I know they would stop if their kids didn't want to do it anymore. Remember, they get paid to be filming shows. That helps with bills, clothes, food etc. I mean think about it. It's their life and they know what they are doing so I'm not worried about it. Besides, imagine them paying for a daycare or babysitter. It really is easier to work at home.

  • Ok everyone, stop picking om this lovely family. You all seem to be very jealous of the situation. If you had the chance to be on a show with your animals making millions. don' Tell me you wouldnt mind paying the Goverment and have your ugly fat butts on t.v.,,,Who are you fooling you lard butts. Now get a life and watch your Animals.

  • It's also commonly known that CNN is a right wing network and the so called 'child advocate'...I'd like to know more about him. If he has such a problem, he should meet with Jon and Kate in private to discuss this,,, rather than going on CNN.

  • this is ridiculous! the children are NOT being exploited!!

I have full faith that the parents 'guard' certain parts of the children's lives. Four yr olds pretty much say/tell anything....

But if you notice, the camera's don't go everywhere.they don't go into the older girls bedroom, which i'm sure is due to the parent's and/or tlc's decision.

I also beleive that the parents would cancel their contract in a heartbeat if it was harming the children.

  • acctualy theyve gone into cara and madys room its just that they arent up in their rooms alot there mostly in the playroom downstairs or the level floor.

  • That is ridiculous! Those kids don't film every day. They film maybe once every month or so. They can have normal lives and do normal things and guess what? they can go to college because of the money they are getting to do this show. If it weren't for that do you think they would be able to afford a normal lifestyle? Most likely-no. I don't think it is doing any harm. Just leave them be!

  • they dont film once a month,more like 3-4 days a week.

  • they film 4 days a week actually

  • Once a month? Try 3 or 4 times a week.

  • Jon does work it works in IT and has flexible hours so he can be at home with his kids and somedyas work from home people are so harsh and over critical of a family who loves there kids and of a show that is Family friendly

  • If this "show" was a sitcom, it'd be great, but it's not and that's the problem. It's a family filmed @ home, w/ private moments constantly exposed on national tv. They don't exist for anyone's entertainment, they are 8 children. The damage has already been done, but the children are still young. They should have enough money now to pay for college & then some. Their 15 minutes are over, curtains closed, it's time to go.

  • I want to adopt these children. I couldn't imagine selling children out like this show does. If they just want to make money off their kids then put them up for adoption. Go work and get real jobs as parents. You aren't a superstar because you had sextuplets. The whole situation is really sad for me for all of the kids. Its heartbreaking as a parent to watch another parent behave like this. Its so pathetic.

  • Jon doesn't work outside the home, he doesn't have a job at all, neither does Kate. I think it's sad what is being done to these kids. Thank goodness for child advocate Paul Petersen and for CNN in putting this piece together. Hopefully it's just the beginning of these two parents being exposed for the scam they are.

  • I think this is what bothers me more than the extreme TV exposure of the kids - the fact that Jon & Kate are shamelessly living off the money their cute kids generate. Without the kids, there would be no family business. It's time they both grow up, come back down to earth, and learn some responsibility. Their twisted morals sicken me.

  • exactly, they want a great lifestyle but dont want to contribute/work for it. they'd rather pawn off their kids. if people even knew half of the stuff that goes on, they would be appalled.

  • How do you know Jon doesn't have a job? Because you say so? Go away... I love the Gosselins.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this video! The quality and sound are excellent.

More people need to be aware of what Jon and Kate are doing to their kids.

  • I don't think it's anyone's business how Jon and Kate run their family. I do, however, think that Kate especially has become a little big-headed since the show has started and I'm not sure if she's the right type of person to be put in this sort of position (being a celebrity). That's the only reason I would want the show stopped.

  • Stay at home mom? Try "stay at home parents." Jon doesn't work outside the home either. The kids are the sole financial support of the Gosselin family.

  • FYI: Jon works outside the home. Watch the full intro some time.

  • You must be talking about last season. Where he is in the white van pulling off and all the kids line up at the window?

    Yeah, things have changed.

  • im very glad to see the blogs getting more and more exposure. i'm hoping that this piece on CNN will be the catalyst that ends the show for the good of the children. i can only hope that jon and kate see the error of their ways and invite back friends & family they've exiled out of their lives who love the children.

  • There is a huge difference between the Dionne's and the Gosselins. The Dionne's were taken away from the love and security of their family, and put on display in a cage like zoo animals.

  • Only difference is back then people traveled to Quintland to view them. Now the tups come to our homes every week and instead of the 'viewing area' being a two-way mirror in person, it is a TV screen.

TLC/Figure 8 bear the same culpability as the good doctor of the Dionne Quints did way back when as it pertains to the exploitation of these children.

  • But why on earth should Mady ever have to redeem herself??????? You talk as if she is a horrible child.....believe me, there are kids out there A LOT worse behaved. Mady is spirited, not bad. There is a big difference. Someday, that spirit of hers is going to serve her well.....mark my words on that.

Just because a kid has a stronger personality than her twin, doesn't mean she isn't a good kid too. Just different.

  • No, I dont think she is a horrible child at all. You misunderstand me. I, as an adult, can see what it at play here. With videos like "Mady is Evil" circulating YT, obviously there ARE people out there who have labeled her because of the way producers and her parents have allowed her to be portrayed. While I can see it for what it is, her peers, children her own age, do not have the maturity to do the same and treat her respectfully.

  • I'd disagree with a couple of points. I don't think the cameras alter the 4 years olds behavior because the cameras have been there as long as they can remember. The 8 year olds that would probably apply more. I don't think the kids are being "abused" (in the classic sense), but I fear for their safety with that incredible amount of exposure, for that reason alone I'd vote to stop the show.

  • Thanks for your comment. The term 'abuse' gets sticky. I also dont think they are abused in the classic sense; rather their best interest is not taking first priority. However, to your point about the tups being used to the cameras, I will use this example: There are children who do and have always lived in a variety of abusive situations. They are 'used to it' and know no other way of life. Just because they are desensitized to the only life they know, doesnt make it 'right'.

  • Why is it that people love to pick on the Gosselins, but yet nobody seems bothered by the fact that the Duggars are doing the exact same thing, and then shows like Supernanny and Nanny 911 are doing even worse...showcasing kids who have behavioural issues.

  • The Duggar issue has already been addressed upthread. As far as Supernanny and Nanny 911, there are issues being raised about this type of programming but ultimately, it's not a show that invades the children's lives for days on end, year after year after year, and essentially recreates who they are.

If the show ends today, what chance would Mady have to redeem herself? How will she be remembered? How will that serve her 10 yrs from now when she goes away to college and tries to make friends?

  • The Gosselin's and Duggar's can hardly be compared. Duggars don't have tv lighting permanently installed in their home. The don't create activities for the sole purpose of having a reason for an episode of their show - they film what is actually happening in their family at the time. The Duggars have a 'reason' for doing the show - to tell ppl about their choice to live the way they do and to explain why. Gosselin's purpose for the show is INCOME! Show topics are made-up for something to film.

  • I have to disagree with you on the fact that the Duggars will only be filming what would happen on any other day. You can't be so naive to think that washing socks and cooking tater-tot casserole is going to keep people watching.

They will get to go places just like the Gosselin family. They've already been to Disney Land compliments of TLC. What makes you think they won't be paid to visit other exciting places?

  • it doesn't matter anyway because in a few years the show will be canceled as the sextuplets will be attending school.

lets just enjoy it while it lasts!

  • This is the exact attitude I am talking about when I refer to people who say it is 'just entertainment.' I'm sure these kids, years from now, would be comforted to know the issues they may struggle with at that point 'doesn't matter' to the viewing public who can't get enough of them now.

  • I wonder if the Coogan laws apply to all of the money J&K are making? I'm guessing no, because they aren't in CA... but I'm hoping that a good portion of all $ earned is going in trust for the kids. I also wonder how on earth the PA Dept of Labor can justify kids working (which is what they do...being filmed 24/7)... so much?

  • They're not filmed 24/7. I've seen it written (in this month's Good Housekeeping) that the cameras are only at their house roughly four days per week. The children are also not on the entire show. Probably half of each show is Jon & Kate in the interview room.

  • Who said they were filmed 24/7? Neither is the baby lying in a bassinet on a movie set, just doing what babies do, yet they are protected by laws governing their schedule, education, and money. Are the Gosselin children not worthy of the same considerations?

  • If you look at the post I replied to, you'll see that umsami did, in the last sentence to his/her post.

  • My apologies; I see that now. No, they are not filmed 24/7 and exaggerating the facts won't help when trying to confront the true issues here.

  • The Back Noise Is Funnyyy.

  • OH NOO!

    Nice Tv Though!

  • dreadwoodfan:

Who is to say he isnt? The genre of reality TV is fairly new, certainly as it applies to children under 18. (Kid Nation is one example) Before now, most reality shows centered around consenting adults who VOLUNTEERED to be there.

Also the DUGGAR's (not DuggaN) only recently started their series. Before they only did random specials. The Duggars don't depend solely on the TV show to provide for their family. I'm pretty sure they have several lucrative real estate ventures.

  • Excuse me, the Duggars (I don't watch that show). What difference does it make whether they depend solely on the TV show or not? I thought we were discussing whether the shows are exploiting the children or not.

I just found it strange that he would be on TV badmouthing the Jon & Kate show but not the Duggars' show.

  • Excuse me but YOU brought it up: "They're putting them on TV and plan on continuing that as long as they can make money at it. What's the difference? Both families need money."

I was replying to YOUR reference to the money being made. If you want to keep it about the exploitation, fine; don't refer to the money being made and not expect to be challenged on it.

Anyway, it IS relevant. TLC said thats what it's ALL about, apparently.

  • Wow, I wasn't trying to start a fight with you. I was only wondering why PP was only going after one family and not the other one.

I love watching the show Jon and Kate Plus Eight. I'm guessing you hate it (or you're one of the Kate-haters). We'll likely never agree on anything to do with this show so I'm just going to stop posting about it.

  • Paul Petersen has dedicated years of his life to causes directly related to many child actors issues. We can't say he isn't 'going after' one family vs. another just because he is currently focused on a high profile family. Many many children in this genre fall under the same umbrella of the Gosselins. One may say he is using them to bring attention to his plight, but it's still far less egregious than what their own parents are using them for.

  • I dont want to fight either, but I do want people to look beyond this 'it's only entertainment' mantra (not from you and I shouldnt generalize). It's is more than that - they are not playing characters on a show - they ARE the characters who, long after this show is over and the public forgets about them, will have to reconcile a lot of emotional baggage due to the parents' choices to make a very public display of every emotion and bodily function they had in childhood.

  • Not true. Kate is a registered nurse and worked while the 6 kids were babies. She quit eventually but worked weekends for a while.

  • Not true. Kate NEVER went back to work full time after the babies. She only worked weekends for a few months. I think it was at a dialysis center, but I am not positive.

  • Okay, I looked it up and I made a mistake in my last post. The Duggan family has 18 children (counting the one on the way), not 20 like I said. Either way, 18 or 20, I wonder why PP isn't going after them? Jon and Kate had two pregnancies and have eight children. The Duggans have had 18 pregnancies and will continue to reproduce as long as they can. They're putting them on TV and plan on continuing that as long as they can make money at it. What's the difference? Both families need money.

  • Thanks for making this available!
