  • Lol, the description is wrong. Both the JagdTiger and Tiger 1b were larger then the Elephant

  • Due to the current US budget situation and short memory of the sacrifice of past wars, the planned new Ordnance Museum at Fort Lee, VA is a no go. Even the storage of these awesome tanks has been questioned by congressional committee. I hope the Danville Tank Museum gets this Elefant if congress orders the US Army to get riid of it and the other tanks..

  • hm strange

the elefant was based on the tiger p the porsche competing model for the tiger

and the jagttiger was way bigger and heavier than the elefant

  • My Porsche is not as intimidating.

  • Its a shame than USA dont put all this old machines in covered hangars and not left them rust away outside.... even when restored...

  • The Heaviest Gun on a WW2 Tank was the Josef Stalin 2, which boasted a 122mm Main Gun.

  • @EvilFingers Wrong! Soviet JSU152 = 152mm gun.

  • @Finkie147 The JSU152 is a Tank Destroyer which is in the same category as the Ferdinand/Elefant, and it was never considered as a Main Battle Tank like the JS2.

  • @EvilFingers

keep in mind that the term '' Main Battle tank'' was used until late in the Cold War.

And come to think of it, the largest caliber Gun put on a Tank like vehicle in German Use was the SturmTiger.

  • @ThePanzerWarMachine In terms of using MBT is the same when used in the term of Workhorse, in which the Panzer IV as well as the Big German Cats were the Workhorses of the Panzer Forces, in other words, the tanks I just mentioned are also called Main Battle Tanks.

As for the SturmTiger, its primary role was more of a Close Support Infantry Tank for Close Quarter Combat in a city, than a tank that went up against other tanks in an open field like the Battle of Kursk.

  • 1:38 the first mistake. He refers to him as 'she'. Tanks are of male gender.

I would really love to make a pilgrimage to see him (The Elefant).

  • This tank destroyer was essentially designed by Porsche, long before it became famous for other reasons. 7 decades later, they finally designed a successor to the Elefant: The Panamera.

  • that tank is no longer in Aberdeen, Maryland. It is now in Fort Lee, Virginia.

  • @BHuang92 really?! isnt tht where their moving all the shit at aberdeen?

  • And the elefant wasn't the heaviest tracked vehicle developed by the germans. That would be the karl gerat's. They were 124 tonnes.

  • @DmanSean90 The Maus was the heavest. lol 188?

  • This isn't really a tank is it.. It's more of a spg.

  • @evildeathmonkey1 Nah, more of a tank destroyer.

  • ok . another documentary said that the german had 700 k ++ troops and 2500 tanks. now its 900k++ troops and 2700 tanks. which one is correct ?

  • Worst tank of the war...

  • Dr. William F Atwater, that guy is awesome, you'll see him a lot in military history documentaries

  • Greeting to you sir i have photos of the 4 remaining ferdinands ( 3 ferdinands and 1 hull i was in kubinka i watched the russian and the russian hawe 1 elephant as spare parts the main gun emplacement is damaged and 1 of the tracks is missing

and than i watched with my parent 4-5 years ago the aberden elefant and my friend sended a photo from italy the have salvaged a elephant upper hull

  • @Davieeee87

okay, could you please send those photo's to me?

  • Only 4 in the World 1 in America at the patton museum 2 in Kubinka and 1 in Italy at the Italyan military academy that is just a hull

  • @Davieeee87 False and incorrect information. 2 Ferdinant / Elaphant vehicles are still with us today.

This one, who was knocked out in Itally was one of only 40 Elephnats that survied the Battle of Kursk, and the other one was captured by Russian infantry during the Kursk Offemsive. These two vehicles are the only 2 remaining on Earth. None of the 2 are on Working Condition.

  • JagdTiger is beter

  • @totonio01 nah man read some history books this isnt world of tanks

  • "Ferdinand" is a german male first name... calling it "she" just sounds wrong

  • What a waste. Only 2 left in the world, so we'll just slap some paint on it and call it "restored"! (then film it for TV to make it look like we did something.)

  • @freewill51

What are you expecting them to do? As the vid says, there were no spare parts and it was missing a lot of original components. Restoring it to working condition is out of the question.

  • the elephant was a failure because it could not defend itself against infantry with at weapons and its side armor are vulnerable to antitank shells.

  • 1:57 not true .... they should check it before misleading us ... jagdtiger , sturmtiger , ISU152 etc. such as shame that documentary film makers make such as mistakes

  • @petrwarry72

    Not exactly, they say:

'' 1 of the largest weapon put on any tank during the second world war.''

So You are wrong and correct about that, petr.

  • @ThePanzerWarMachine well ... if isu152 has cannon 152mm , jagdtiger 128mm and sturmtiger 380mm rocket launcher ...than 88mm doesn't look like one of the largest :-D

  • @petrwarry72

true that. but the 88mm has its power in Kinetic energy not size. it has the same range, not the same power as the isu 152.

  • @ThePanzerWarMachine yes you're right , 88mm is best anti tank cannon ...i'm not comparing that.

anyway ...lately i'm finding so many other and worse mistakes in doc films, that i watch just pictures ....for correct infos ...books and military forums

  • @petrwarry72 I do the same! wich forums do you use?

  • @ThePanzerWarMachine czech version of panzernet and similar ones...

  • @petrwarry72 Brit 17-pounder was better

  • @wautd 17 pounder was very good gun aswell

  • @ThePanzerWarMachine it really depends on how you look at it. The 88mm gun on the Elephant was the PAK43 L/71 version, which had a very long barrel, combind with its loading mechanism it truly is one of the largest weapons to be fitted on a tank platform...

  • @spiraling69

that was what i was trying to explain. This Gun is pretty Similiar to that of the Köningstiger and JagdPanther.

  • @spiraling69 largest weapons on a tank? what about the jagdtiger? it boasted a 128mm gun that was long too

  • @Masterdustin101 Not all Jadtiger were issued with the 128 High velocity gun. Of the 85 Units build between June 1944 and april 1945, 81 were issued with the'' Panzerjäger Tiger mit 88mm Pak 43/3 (Sf) Sd.Kfz.185 '' main canon, and the last 4 were build with the '' 88 mm Lang 71 kanon og the King Tiger. ''

  • :> omfg haxxx ^^

  • kingtiger wach even heaver. and the mauser tank was ff heaver but it was only a prototype it stands in russia now.

  • @duif463

a Könings tiger weighs arrounf 68 tonnes. and 2 Maus Tank were made but only 1 survives in Kubinska Russia, in Kubinska Tank museum.

  • fucking nice. keep them shows up

  • @rboss0

dank je. de hele serie is nu kompleet. M-24 Chaffee is de volgende.

  • wasn't jagdtiger heavier ?

  • @petrwarry no

  • @petrwarry Yes I think u're right, JT was 70 tons but Elefant was only 65 tons.

  • @hatakashi1900

this would be an awesome tank if it was available in 1/4 size?
