the melody is coming from his inward, it belongs to his feelings.
every qari recites "rast, etc.", but every "rast" is different from the other qari. its like everybody makes shortbread-cookies, but all are doing it a little different. every cookie has his own taste.
but the art of reciting quran can not be achieved by (barely) listening. at first you have to learn it from a teacher. you have to follow someone. if the teacher reads:
'I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the Accursed'. you have to read the same. and its different, if you only hear it with your ears, or see and hear it.
so, you take melody by listening and knowledge of rules (tajweed) by a teacher.

Thank you bro, I second what he says. Everyone can read in Maqam Bayati, the it wouldn't sound the same.
