Same here. I can set the trap keeping the trigger plate side pointed up, but once I level it out, it snaps right away. It won't even set when I try to set it level. I had to watch a video to make sure I was doing it right, and I am. Just an awful trap.
Gotta agree with most of these comments, these things are impossible to set. I bought 8 of them and have been trying for half an hour, the latch simply will not catch and stay under the cheese plate piece. Useless waste of money.
I bought a pack of 72 of these to deal with shrews invading my gardens. They're the first trap I've ever used, but I was able to quickly learn how to set them. So far I haven't snapped myself, however sometimes on particular traps the bar doesn't want to catch under the trigger plate and I've had one slip and give me a scare. They work however, and I've caught about a dozen shrews and almost as many mice with it using a peanut butter/oatmeal/bacon grease mix baited UNDER the V in the trigger.
The professional trap is a piece. They are impossible to set. I tried over and over and over again and broke two in the process. One you think you have the trap set, boom, it goes off....watch those fingers!
I have a ton of mice in my apartment and this is the only kind of traps I have (pro model). These things are impossible to set up, I actually ended up breaking my trap into wood slivers becuase I had tried and failed at least 50-60 times to set the trap. I cannot reccomend this trap to anyone who has regard for their dear fingers. Awful trap, I love the mouse attractant though :)

@ahs747 You have to be 10 % smarter than the thing you are operating..

Very helpful. The instructions provided are too basic. This video gave me a great view of setting and baiting.

Have you tried the newer kind? The once set traps you can set with one hand?
