  • safelite and speedy are taking over the industry and driving prices up ....this will only make things worse.as the consumer will b looking for choices other than the big companys.......the fly by night guys with no training will get buisier.....as there prices will b cheaper............total shame........industry f..cked itself royally ...........and believe when i say this..........speedy and safelight are buying those little companies and employing the installers

  • i have bin installing windshields for 25 years now and since that commercial came out nothing has changed.......its actuall got worse....there are more fly by night guys out there than ever before.....and the industry is still not regulated. i allways pride myself on the work i do and it is a shame that there are still companys out there that sacrifice workmanship and lives for money and time.........windshields should never be done mobile only in a controled enviroment

  • i was told to only use Safelite Auto Glass... They did my glass and it was far superior to even the original!!! The urethane used is even better than the maker!

The glue they use has a safe drive time of 45 - 1hr....

  • that is a mustang and it comes with butyl from factory.

  • now you have faster curing time .it cost a little more.

  • The installer in this video did do a good job on removeing the old buytal tape that was OEM to the car. To install it properly you need to remove it all as urethane doesnt stick to it and buytal tape retains water causeing your car to rust out. I wouldnt have layed the V-beed on the glass but on that style car its not a real issue but DOW the current leader and maker of urethane recomends to always lay the beed on the body.

  • The safe driveaway times are drastically reduced from the time of this video. Adhesives from major manufacturers like sika are an hour in optimum temperatures on some products for airbagged vehicles. The urethane formulas are much better now than they were.

  • @Neeboopsh I should clarify - not ALL adhesives are 1hr. many are 2hr, some are less (but expensive and rarely used). One should make sure the downtime matches the safe driveaway time

  • Any questions about my research and how it applies to current standards remain unchanged/ There is only one adhesive tested on all vehicles of all colors and until you learn what you dont know you wont make sense of it. Study the oem specs and you cant go wrong :)

  • Thanks you, I have done some BMW and Mercedes Gasket style windshield. I am now planning to do a glue in windshield on a Ford Truck. Sure glad I found your video. I want to do it right. But will like for a windshield at the Salvage Yard that will come out easy!

  • in gasketed windshields like that jeep or the old pick up on the scrap yard the glass is always going to pop out because it's just the gasket what hold's them in place, if you put sealant on a gasketed windshiel or back window the metal frame is going to rust in no time

  • Well, so much for me (a novice) doing my install myself. Now it's gonna cost me $200 instead of the $35-60 for the shield and doing it myself. Dang.

  • pass this video on, spread the word of shady businesses

  • any company can have a hack. ask questions before you let someone work on your car. see if the installer is certified. dow, sika, essex are all good if installed correctly

  • NATIONAL WINDCREENS IS THE WAY FORWARD..

  • USE SIKA YOU GREASY HACKS!!! 1 HOUR DRIVE TIME! HACKS!

  • thats why u make sure the lazy fucks take off the scuttle

  • Thats me featured in the video, any questions , find me on facebook, Blain McElrea

  • Thankyou for posting this, I had plans to replace mine at home until viewing this changed my mind... I will take it to professionals instead.

  • Normal windshield urethane is not dry in the center in 24hrs, no matter what conditions... It can take up to 1week to completely dry, in the winter sometimes even 2weeks is not enough... As a professional, I know this pretty well :) Good video!

  • @ipp3l1 Sika urethane completely cures within 48 hours. It actually gets a skin within 1 - 2 hours thats strong enough to drive away. I would know, I literally just got off of work, and I'm a replacement technician. And I'm going through a new training class for the new Belron tools.

  • In perfect conditions it does. But I have removed a windshield installed 2weeks ago and sika was still not completely dry in all the places. It was winter tho...

  • @acejch386 yeah your right, ive took the belrons exam 2 times and im certified through belron as well, took it in 2006 and again in 2009 cuz they had lots of changes, i passed them both times on the first try!

  • @slidingjosh it aint hard fitting screens

  • @dragonfitter oh really, I think I know Im dow,Sika certified homie!

  • @ Avau.... You could be right when you are saying that Belron do cause more warranty's ...you have to imagine they do millions of windscreen replacements every year so you can not compare it with a small shop. But what i know is that they work to the highest safety standards and use products that are used by the car manufacturers as well. And just using a pre -activated PU will not get the silicone contamination of your new screen... You need a special product for that as well.

  • @MrThewitte cheers for the reply, but i must say silicone contamination on windscreens also depends on, like iv mention b4 "who supplys YOU! our suppliers clean any silicone from the press moulds and all we have todo is glass clean it!

  • @avau77 We spay it with cleaner and take a scotch bite pad to it to clean contaminated winsheilds!

  • @MrThewitte instant is smaller than belron but whos to say we dont do things the proper way???

  • Comment removed

  • @avau77 Yes Belron is Big, World Wide to be exact! They even sent me to China They sign my checks!

  • @MrThewitte lmao...belron owned companys have the highest warranty number...why? because you use the urathane from sika! iv corrected many of your fark ups! sika is a shyt product...we use a pre-activated urathane (simpson) its gold and because "belron use too much shyt to prep a screen...it aint rocket science. its quality workmenship thru to customer SAFETY!! services with a smile!!

ohh and iv worked for belron over 6yrs before i was picked up by instant windscreens!!

  • in new zealand belron made one mistake and they drove fitters like slaves which made some lazy and irresponsible...please feel free to check my credentials bout my comments...(av) wellington, new zealand.

  • People...use a company that is owned by BELRON!

They are very strict in using the right products and the right process to install windshields.

Don't play with your life or that of your loved ones because you can win some money...

  • Thats my job to :)

  • Thats my job to :)

  • If we can now get Safelite to stop acting like autoglass replacement is a drive-thru, maybe we can get some headway. Sorry Safelite, but we and your techs know the truth! not to mention the crap the techs get because of (any number or probs, ie, wrong glass, customer told they will be there at 8:00am, or whatever the call center cooks up..) lets get this right, and atleast slow the Safelite controll over autoglass. What we need most at this point is to stop the "fire and hire" safelite program

  • Cool vid! Now I can roll over my Toyota P/U with PEACE OF MIND! LOL =o

  • Haha - Oh Man! That's funny!

  • 1:50 Clearly a rubber gasket install, All gasket installs should be done with a urethane back -up, both the pinchweld and the glass should be bonded to the gasket! Pain in the ass to change later, but thing of the alternative!

  • great video! sika and betaseal r some of best products!

  • i have great experiance in that job. If you take care abaut manufacturer notice, than all produce are ok.

  • @SuperNovosadjanin howsit!! your experience should have also shown you that manufacture era with windscreens are common!!

  • sika and essex have two proceedures that are not alike

  • so a good installation uh . . . . now u can crash save?

  • the is a great video, although a little outdated. the automotive glazing industry has moved on alot since this film was made. volvo used butyl up until the mid 90's.

i think someone should make a new version of this so the dangers can be highlighted to the public once again, because the ammount of customers that ignore drive-away times or are unaware of the dangers of inproper glass replacement is stagering.

  • @ant6302 sooo true Ive seen tones of cars where they have a "leak" but the owner is really un aware that there windsheild is just sitting there due to poor installions

  • The car that the host is kicking out looks like a early 80's mustang/capri.

Ford used butyl from the factory in the 80's for those and other cars and trucks as well as Chrysler!

The one he's kicking out is probably the factory glass!!!

  • Thats really interesting

  • Thank you very much. Where did you see this, from our website?

  • They don't explain between urethane installs and rubber gasket installs huge difference!!!

  • that's really helpful!!

  • move it has a one hour drive away time

  • @grumpydave69 thats what we use, obrien glass. its good stuff, quick drying time and very strong.. It just gets everywhere!!! lol, my work shirts are covered in the stuff
