BTW, according to some sources, in Severo-Kurilsk (Paramushir Island), the second wave was 18 meters (!) high. Almost 3,000 people were killed on that island. About 300 survived...
The tsunami generated by this earthquake on November 4, 1952 not only destroyed the city of Severo-Kurilsk and lots of villages and caused more than 2500 deaths. I was surprised to learn that in Hawaii, property damage from these waves was estimated at $800,000-$1,000,000 (1952 dollars)
A tsunami can be 6feet tall but 300 miles wide thats 300 miles from the beach then over the horizon. So the 6feet wave hits then the water behind keeps rushing in behind it thats why a tsunami looks like a huge flood. If its upto your knees you cant stant up in it it will push you through someones window and pin you to a wall while the room fills up other people are crushed by cars and all sorts of other objects.
well those people are not very bright. think about the power of that tsunami, even if only 5 or so feet high, it is like a concrete wall plowing into the coast.
Why are you sure that this footage was taken at Kuril islands in 1952? An earthquake, that caused tsunami, happened at approx. 3:50 early morning Nov 5, 1952, tsunami waves appeared in 20-30 min after that time. So, that was nighttime, and here is a day...
The earthquake was at the utter southern tip of Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia at 3:50am in the early morning or something. But it doesn't mean the tsunami strikes at the same time. Siberia was the first hit from the harbour wave, and a couple of hours later it hit the Kuril Islands, I think. The tsunami must have travelled slow, somehow.
The tsunami that struck the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day 2004 struck 15 minutes after the earthquake.

で、このカムチャツカ地震、周期は100年程度とされています。1737年(M8.3)、1841年(M8.6)、1952年(M9.0)です。次は2040年から2060年前後に発生が予想されているので気をつけましょう。特にハワイ。
