Beautiful home to say the least. Its wonderful to see more and more people building earthships... Just out of curiosity Errol, what did you use for your foundation? How many square feet is the house in total? Did you have any issues in regards to building permits (when building with earth rammed tires)?
Fantastic layout, love the idea, awesome so much freedom here. Living away from the repetitive norms of Society, brilliant music.... what's the title please.
whenever you build, be it "earthship" or Jim Walters you will see settling and... concrete cracking... Hate to break it to you, but we don't build to last like... The Romans, or the Greeks... in truth, for all our "education" we're kinda amateurs.
ALL homes need some sort of upkeep. But there are earthships that are 30 years old, still standing and functioning they way they are supposed to...
There are mud homes (cob) in England that have been around for a min of 1000 years. Homes, buildlings that are maintained, repaired, etc will last for a long time.
I would love to see an updated video with everything finished off. I am very much contemplating building and earth ship with my partner when I return to the states, and I am trying to get ideas for the perfect layout. Us,plus two kids with more possible for the future... I am not an eco nut, but I like the idea of having a home that I don't have to pay to heat, seeing as how the one I currently live in never stays warm, and takes all of our money. But need more ideas!!!
Thx for posting this. As a video guy I can recommend thinking of the camera as a regular still camera and not moving it so much. Not everyone can handle the 3D game view experience without getting dizzy.
Whats the bare minimum a house this size could be built for?
