Why must we ascribe human feelings and emotions to animals that essentially have neither? Rabbits are as much a food animal as cows, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, and, yes, even horses. FWIW, I've eaten horse meat and found it pretty tasty. Some societies even consider dogs and cats to be food animals. Many of the Native American tribes considered dog a delicacy.

Why should a pig or a cow not have as many rights as a rabbit? Animals that are killed to be Kosher or Halal meat have their tracheas cut out whilst conscious and are allowed to bleed/suffocate to death for nothing more than religious bullshit.

I see nothing wrong with eating ANY animal, as long as its humanely killed, and im a vegetarian.

One persons pet, is anothers meal.

Okay....never thought I'd comment on such a dumb video but I must.

Okay, yes rabbits should be unconscious when slaughtered for meat. But are you personally going to go and hand out tranquilizers to all the hunters out there? May as well tell them to soothe those deer to sleep as well.

Second, the "rabbits" used for meat are NOT domesticated rabbits. The rabbits used are wild hares. Native Americans, like my ancestors, have eaten them for years now.

Tranquilizers to hunters??? This is talking about slaughterhouses and rabbit farms, not hunting. And maybe YOU should get your facts straight: do a search on "meat rabbit breeds" -- there is no mention of hares anywhere, just lots and lots of domesticated breeds that are also pets. In fact, they are casually billed as "dual purpose." Maybe your ancestors ate hares, but they are not profitable as meat rabbits due to the low meat to bone/fur ratio. The video DOES have the facts straight.

Yes, it is horrible!! A lot of people have bunny rabbits as pets, just like other people have dogs or cats!! Bunnies are wonderful animals, they make great pets!!

Please DO NOT eat them!! We don't raise dogs and cats in those horrific "Farms", and then it the dogs and cats!!

we have lots of dogs trying to eat my rabbit, one time i left them both(rabbit and the guinea pig) in the back yard while i ate a late lunch then i heard a splash and went back to see a black dog trying get my rabbit and the guinea pig was in the fish pond(she was siting the big rocks half wet), i use a 2ft. willow stick (we have willow trees) and shoot the dog away(until its owner came).

From a quick search, the USDA explanation seems to be along these lines: "because rabbits and poultry are nearly the same size, it is common practice to slaughter rabbits in poultry establishments; therefore, to simplify reporting from inspectors, rabbits are grouped with poultry". Just seeing some of those words together in the same sentence makes me feel bad... :-(
