  • @imranbug81, the stick is to communicate beat and tempo, dynamics, cueing and other musical elements. See 'conducting' on Wikipedia. Notes are in front of the musicians indeed.

  • @imranbug81 i was wondering same thing

  • here is a question for violinists: why is this masterwork hardly played in halls anymore?? There is certainly plenty to do for the soloist.

  • @windstorm1000 There's so much for the soloist to do that few can do it well enough to perform it in public:) I'm not a violinist, but I've been told that Paganini began composing because, as the world's greatest violin virtuoso up to his time, he felt there was no music that showcased his abilities. Being able to play this piece is a lifelong dream for many students of the violin.

  • sounds really good !

  • what do we call the guy who leads the symphony and what is he trying to communicate with his stick... the notes...??? don't they have the notes right in front of them. >??

  • @imranbug81 a conductor

  • 2:38 - 3:06

    sounds like carol anne's theme

  • Fantastic!

  • Estoy complacida en escuchar este concierto, la felicito ampliamente ..................

  • fantastico

  • This is amazing!

  • wow. my brain has been ear fucked, and it was great.

  • @sparticusfinch <--- asshole

  • Love it. My old time favorite.

  • imagine seeing the master himself play this.

  • Tchaikovsky Competition 1990 で第一位になった諏訪内さんですが、何とこのパガニーニのヴァイオリン協奏曲の方がより多く視聴されています。

    私はこの厳然たる事実こそ、彼女に対する世界の評価がいかに高いかを雄弁に物語っていると思います。

  • poor Heifetz strad... doesn't sound like it

  • @annasilkoff It's not Heifetz strad. 10 years later she got the dolphin strad which was once owned by Heifetz, but not played by him in concerts. He prefered and always played another violin Guarnelli del Gesu.

  • @ganjer63 Guarneri del gesu. ya

  • @annasilkoff Oh, yes, a 1742 Guarneri del Gesù.

See the article of New York Times "Putting Heifetz's Violin Back Into Action"by ANNE MIDGETTE

Published: June 15, 2002 on the web:

She wrote, Heifetz favorite violin, a 1742 Guarneri del Gesù, would start a new life in the hands of the concertmaster of the San Francisco Symphony, Alexander Barantschik.

  • @annasilkoff At that time,Suwanai was a unknown 18year old student, and has neither strad nor guarneri.

  • @harfuch1 Who gives a hoot where you are from ignoramus with a thin skin and a big complex. i never commented on the middle east idiot !!!!!!

  • i'm 21 and never played the violin but i've decided just now that i'm going to learn and be able to play that.

  • @0casteloencantado0 erg,,,,i suggest give up everything your doing and practice 10 hours a day for the next 15 years. You might be able to do it. :)

  • @FliptopTwister you thinks it ain't possible girl? i speak 9 languages!!

  • @0casteloencantado0 No. I don't think its impossible. I told you what you have to do.

  • @0casteloencantado0 9 languages is nothing compared to this; even FliptopTwister's advice is understating the time it would take to learn the violin, and then to play this song!

  • i don't see a black or mexican plying like this,,hahahahahahahaha

  • @jorgeoscar1000 Different cultures ignorant.

Educate yourself ignorant before you open your mouth.

    FYI I'm from middle east.

  • Delightful performance, thanks for posting it!

  • shes just like sarah chang :D

  • @bioteologo1 gracias, buen mensaje

  • Time pass fast, Suwanai was 18 that time & now going to forty....

  • decent violin playing

  • Brilliant! Paganini would smile.

  • amo a esa niña, maravillosa!!

  • I've found it really depressing watching these 'pros' in the last few days, since I started in january it's just made me feel worthless and like there is no point continuing to play as I will never reach anything like that :( feels like I am wasting my time like I was always be a 'underdog' in the violin game- I'm a perfectionist which is why it is a hard pill to swallow

  • @dwaynedibbly if you love what you play never give up!

  • In my opinion when it comes to playing your instrument, If you think youve reached perfection, youve just lost...Theres always room for improvement .. except for mozart and beethoven ... they reached it .. lol

  • @dwaynedibbly My friend, you cannot be like that to yourself. I myself do not play violin (want to learn) but I play guitar and I want to learn to play great and it just so happens I have a master guitarist who lives just above me and everytime I hear him play I feel the same way cause I feel like I could never play like that, but you gotta take a different attitude. Ever listen to peter tosh?

"Anything you can do, I can do it better, I'm the toughest, and I can do what you can't do...' etc.

  • @dwaynedibbly if everybody would have the same mentality like you no one will ever become a "pro". i`ve herd of a lot of great musicians who had their difficulties when they started out. so my point is keep trying you`ll see you`ll be happy even when you reach some skill. i can tell you i felt really happy when i got my first riffs on guitar, and i am a perfectionist too at some level. i hope you wont give up and i wish you good luck.

  • @fiftieslover thanks for the encouragement friends

  • @TheYOUMichaelYOU She played both Paganini and Tchaikovsky in the final round of the competiotion. Tchaikovsky competition cnsists 3 round, and in each round participants must play many asigned pieces not necessarily composed by Tchaikvsky. The competition continued almost 1month. more than100 participated to 1st round, but only 6 were in the final.

  • nice hair

  • Please tell me she won.

  • @nogveelove Yes,she won the 1st prize of the competition by a unanimous vote of all 12 jurors.

furthermore she was awarded two sepecial prizes:the best bach piece player prize and the best

    tchaikovsky player prize.

  • Whats the name of the conductor? I see him often but dont know his name.............

  • @zhypaul93 I think Dmitri Kitaenko??? My Gara CD 1990.

  • @zhypaul93 justin bieber?

  • nice

  • Everyone in china play like this girl... so she suck

  • @daemperador123 alot of ppl in china can play techinical stuff well like her or maybe better but listen to her tchaikovsky concerto thats what most of the china ppl lack

  • @daemperador123 She is Japanease.not chinease.

  • @daemperador123 you go to play your erhu..i think erhu is wonderful instrument can beat violin down. why do you chinese study violin?

  • asian chosaky que violon nemizaneh.

  • GOD! SHE LEARNED ALL THAT BY HEART?!!!! IT'S SCARY HOW TALENTED SHE IS!

  • @brujitoyprometida

I hope YOU died in the earthquake. thats jacked up.

  • @ph4nt0mf1ng3rs Japan will revive splendidly like Mahler: Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection)

  • @brujitoyprometida .No.She is ok.I'm japanease.

earthquake and Tsunami hit japan.but It is a part of only region. Please Look Map of Japan.Japan is a large country. 3 prefectures received serious damage.

But Japan has 47 prefectures.Another is energetic and helped hard to 3 prefectures.

  • @brujitoyprometida Oh, No! She lives now in Paris, and is active as a solo violinist and very busy for concerts and recitals.

  • geweldige violiste gaan we nog meer van horen, dank voor het plaatsen van dit concert, F.B.Spaen

  • amazing playing, this is true mastery!! Thank you for posting!!

  • I listened to her play the violin from 0:48 to 1:07 in the video & then shut it off. It was pretty bad... just scratching away like a beginner... almost as bad as someone tuning a violin.

  • @CecilTheSeaMonster - You sir' suck at sarcasm.

  • @Benj888 can u maybe try a sentence with more "s" words in it?

  • @CecilTheSeaMonster hope you can play alf as well, then you can comment on this performance - a virtuoso performance!!!!!! :=))

  • @CecilTheSeaMonster you should kinda listen to the rest.... like starting at 7:40 till the end.

  • L'introduzione non molto tempo mi piace, ho sentito altre versioni ma questo ottimo solista.

  • She is the most beautiful thing ever.

  • this is by far one of the most incredible things i have ever seen a human being do

  • She is so beautiful, she would not need to play - watching her face would be more than enough the whole evening.

  • @MrPatriceLumumba creep.

  • how old was she?

  • It is said that Paganini was such a virtuoso, on his violin, that people thought he was possessed. And if you listen to his music you can kinda see where that idea came from.

  • how do you play a guitar that small??

  • @XxXWestleyXxX wtf??was thqat a joke or are u completely out of it?

  • awesome

  • BULLSHIT - Paganini played a Stratocaster, handcrafted for him by Leo Flenderouso, ole Pag would never have played a fiddle - IDIOSIOUSES!

  • she even better than a asiatic

  • she is so pretty :)

  • holy crap i cant imagine how much practice that took

  • Phenomenal!

  • WOW..Speechless

  • @wisesatyr72 me neither = just awesome !!

  • did you she win this competition?!

  • @xxcarlyxx yes, she is (or was, i don't know if someone younger win it recently) the youngest person to win it

  • why is the A higher than normal?

  • Charming performance ! Thank you very much !

  • She looks as beautiful as she plays! What an elegant creature!

  • your all idiots

    close your eyes and listen

  • @B4IRUTUARU16 better say "all you idiots ..." ;-)

  • @cheval63sg lol my bad

  • Is it me who does not hear well or is the orchester really dreadful?

  • @xikh11 It's you.

  • Salvatore Accardo is also an excellent violinist on Paganini's music.

  • Knowing how to play the music is more important than technique display. She plays the violin so well but there's no fire, no passion, no poetry, and no sense of Paganini style in her playing. She doesn't build suspense nor climax. Not that she isn't capable of doing so but her imagination just hadn't developed. To feel Paganini style, listen to the Italian violinistI Ruggerio Ricci. Ricci 's tone is a little harsh and dry but he plays Pagainini more authentically than most anyone else.

  • what do the subtitles on the video say??

  • She has technique ---and wow what strong solid technique---and the ability to project..........unfortunately she doesn't comprehend italian style and its charm. This piece is not just about technique display. I might add that this orchestra also doesn't play with italian style too.

  • @freeqwerqwer Are you kidding me? Paganini was one of the biggest foundations in TECHNIQUE. And to say she doesn't comprehend the style is out right ignorant of you the emotion's there so don't be the ass on the sideline telling the ones doing their thing that they didn't do it right when you couldn't deliver a sliver of it.

  • @gyroku , U are undoubtedly an amateur listener or a non-musician who also don't know English.

  • @freeqwerqwer I grew up on classical music and studied all of the eras of music. You just worded, and I quote "who also don't know English." I'm one person so singular wording please. You're clearly not familiar with Paganini nor his concertos or caprices. They played the piece how he intended it his music was shunned in his time for its lack polyphony. Locatelli was also a major influence on his compositions so go look up his 24 caprices. And don't be such a douche bag prick. Gd asshole

  • @gyroku , While Suwanai is impressive in technique her style interpretative style is lacking. FYI asshole, to comprehend Paganinii style, go listen to the violinist Ruggerio Ricci.

  • @freeqwerqwer regardless it's biased. Paganini composed his works to be specifically played by him because he had such long fingers and flexible joints, hence the demanding double stops and massive leaps. It's musical interpretation, and there is nothing wrong with the way she delivered it. And I prefer Shlomo Mintz. Oh hey by the way, your FYI made no sense to the grammatical integrity of your poorly worded sentence. But hey, I'm a guy "who don't know English" You're cute kid go take a walk.

  • who is she

  • Thanks for posting, fantastic performance, very hight standard of play !

  • @crossbyfields yes fantastic !!bravo

  • por fabor que talento . que dijitacion tan joven

  • por fabor que talento . que dijitacion

  • 95 people are sleep deprived!

  • shes japanese

  • "I am not handsome, but when women hear me play, they come crawling to my feet. " -Niccolo Paganini

  • @MrJpnkilla That's awsome! where did you get the quote? :)

  • @hmmmmusic i'm pretty sure i just typed in "niccolo paganini quotes" lol! :)

  • Just from the start, I knew she had it.....her violin bowing technique is impressive and full. She has almost everything there.....maybe she could use a little ounce more of a delivish soul as this piece was meant to display. Her playing is fresh and truly remarkable...truth be, I like her playing better than heifetz, Perlman, Friedman, and others

  • Violin Solo starts at 4:17

  • they japanese :p

  • WOW. i want to get married to her

  • I've been plying the violin for about 12 years and I'm still not this good!! And I practice for about 5 hours a day!! :) This girl is amazing!!

  • wow... just wow

  • Lovely

  • its so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't claim to know alot about Classical music but may I enquire as to why it is called Paganini Violin Concerto No.1 when there is a picture of Tchaikovsky in the background, and why it says Tchaikovsky Competition 1990 in the info bar? Thanks. Silly me for not knowing.

  • there are not many people on this planet who can play that piece.

    those who can are virtuosos.

  • @elpianisto26 this is far from the most challenging piece in the repertoire. many if not professional violinists and soloists learn this piece in their teens.

  • @jin12345678 well maybe im wrong. but we analysed that piece in school and payed attention on the hard parts like the one when the virtuoso has to play 4 notes at once. and so on the staccato fast parts with 2 notes....

  • @jin12345678 shut up you idiot, lets see if you can do that after a few years, i think not, if you dot know something, you don't post it.

  • @johisweet It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing. ask any violinist where this piece ranks technically. it is typically seen as technically easier than the hardest concertos, like sibelius or brahms. but it depends on the individual. suwanai is an amazing violinist, and few people could play the paganini like her. but the paganini concerto no.1 is not the hardest piece in the repertoire. don't pretend that you know anything about violin repertoire, you're the idiot here.

  • @elpianisto26 agreed

  • sexy music, sexy girl.

  • OMG is THIS Akiko Suwanai??!!! She looked SOSOSOSO different in younger years^^ No but seriously she's great and I love the Concerto

  • just perfect...

  • all of you losers, shut up and go practice! this girl is a virtuoso! you're not! me neither!

i don't care if she's Jap or China.i love good music and t'hat's all! i'm not a racist or a

red neck,as someone said.je suis un Québécois qui adore la musique! et cette fille je l'adore!

  • @normdug Bien dit! Vive la musique!

  • @normdug Totally agree with you. People complaining here don't know how to play the violin or suck at playing it. And they come here to discuss about technique or passion. if you guys don't like it i'm pretty sure that you'll find what you want here on youtube. Otherwise, just listen and enjoy this marvelous piece of art played by an awesome and talented girl.

  • @normdug I support your point entierly! Je soutiens votre point de vue a 100%. Je suis Chinois. J'adore la bonne musique et la langue francaise ! Laoma, Singapour.

  • @normdug

It's no Jap or China, it's Japanese or Chinese and, in this case, Japanese.

  • This music is really amazing, sometimes it makes me cry

  • She looks so sad...

  • Wow!!

  • brilliant conductor~~

  • Beautiful girl and a beautiful performance.

  • Comment removed

  • DIOS ha dado al ser humano de todo, que no lo aprovechamos como se debe es otra cosa.

  • Paganini could have done a very good metal pieces are incredible.

  • i dont care how famous a musican you are in america, this would be a tough show for anyone.

  • Anyone who can play this concerto at only 18 years old in the way she did can only be described as an amazingly dedicated individual, whose constant love for the violin has ultimately led to this moment. Paganini requires a great amount of technical skill of his players, taking years of practice to acquire. Akiko, you really deserve this one, bravo! =D

  • Having spent some years in the Orient (Japan and Taiwan) I can tell you that Asian musicians have plenty of emotion. Just because they may not display it on their face like many Western musicians does not mean it is not there. They are very emotional.

  • STUNNING

  • she's so bad... such a interpretation is terrible!

    only the tectnic is good

    she's NOT musical

  • @l3rasserie wow there are some people out there who think like me... i agree with your comment, i've nearly never seen asian people playing with real emotions on the violin. the technic is amazing like everytime, these people dont have got friends so its no wonder she has a good technic but she is like a robot with filled up batteries which can play 3 hours and then stops
