  • But seriously folks, as y'all watching this: You just got to give plenty of credits to Phil Collins for contributing so much of his drumming effort to the rock n roll world...Band Aid, Genesis, and a whole bunch of other recordings!!!

  • There is Phil collins!!! gokil cuk.

  • I think it is a fine solo. How do I know this? Because I can't stop listening to it.

  • Lol 7:34 Part of Plant's tambourine says "Get the fuck outta here"

  • Duran Duran cry

  • Duran Duran cry

  • The 80's fucked these guys up :/

  • Is it true that Jimmy and Robert pretty much disowned the Live Aid performance, and blamed Phil Collins for their unhappiness?

  • @gg41r i dont blame them he fucked the solo bit right up :)

  • @gg41r I doubt that. That must just be someone trying to create and spread a rumour.

But this concert was during a period when Robert Plant rather disliked Stairway to Heaven. Later, having greater perspective, he changed his mind again. But here, he performs it just because it's expected of the band. Jimmy, though, always liked Stairway.

  • plant just cut off page in his solo......

  • Bonham would be proud to see Phil drumming here, two greats.

  • i wonder how many beers he had right before he went on stage.

  • Now, this song was its best at MSG in 1973. Perfect preformance.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes only the three of them , we were missing Bonham due to unforseen circumstances but I'm sure everyone remembered him that day, along with all the other great legends of Rock. Seligor x

  • Looks like Jimmy Page is going to puke

  • @Bwz070 What do you expect from Jimmy after years of substance abuses with dope and boozes...That's why the poor guy looks so F-up!!!...

  • f*ck phil collins i wish he drown in that f8cking song!!

  • Just love Led Zepplin, and this one of the best songs ever. Jimmy Page is one of the greatest, BUT he was a whole lot better when he was strung out on heroin. If you watch some of the old vids of them, he played the guitar like he was making love to it. Him and the guitar were one.

  • @MrStonerLives You are so right.Concert at Earls Court 1975 he was making love with his guitar on this song esp. during the solo bit.

  • Spectators have born all brain this whistling

  • Fucking the LIKES button. Why is it too small?

  • Robert Plant I luv u as much today as I did when I first fell in luv with u @ age 13.... U r n will always b a Rock God n I had the pleasure of meeting up in Albany NY n to this day u still send shivers down my spine n I shall neva forget that night!!!!!

  • phil collins, no matter how hard you try, you will never outperform zeppelin

  • @DancingNinjaTurtle77 rude and not trying both good

  • @DancingNinjaTurtle77 he doesn't need to coz he has drummed Supper's ready

  • 7:33 Ooops xd

  • Non è stata una grande esibizione!

  • 如果您閱讀了這一點,你他媽的聽帶領澤普真棒。

  • If this was in HD ? It would be 1082022017392x's better.

  • :56 How fucking cool do you think they felt?

  • Is Plant Crying Or Sweating?

  • @ThePortadump Sweating, it was a very warm day in 85 at this concert

  • Its like if you played Woodstock and didnt give a toss, bad move guys, this is going to be around for a long time

  • @andyguitar99 Page infamously cursed Phil Collins out afterwards for sucking.

  • @normy11yt I agree the two drums sounded muddled. Should have been just one drum, Phil or the other guy. This was 30-35% Plant, you could put it down to rustiness I suppose.

  • この弾けてないところが、ジミーらしくて愛らしいw。

  • why didn't robert let jimmy finish the solo??????

  • @diego59x He did. Look at the video again - Page actually cues him to come in at that point, which is roughly the same point he comes in in the original.

  • no bonham,no zeppelin.

  • their time was before the eighties but still a great band and a great come back!

  • Didnt Jimmy admit he was on heroin at live aid? Im sure a read this somewhere.

It was all to do with the pressure on him involving the band

    Anyone?

  • @magicbus144 ....WELL..lol...!!!....I'm a recovering heroin addict....I did it because

I WANTED TO...and because it felt like "heaven" (for a while) .....There are, in fact, no excuses......!! It's the same for all addicts...from Keith Moon, to Jimi Hendrix...to Janis Joplin to Jim Morrison to Jimmy Page...to me...!! A lot of musicians wised up and cleaned up, got into recovery..the rest are dead, or will die......It's clean up, or get covered up, in my book....just to inform you.

  • @nazzfreak53 Thanks for the reply and good luck.

  • @magicbus144 You're welcome, and thank you....!

  • jimmy dropped his guitar pick !!!

  • Phil Collins failed to seal his legacy as a great drummer in this Live Aid performance, coming off consecutive critically acclaimed songs in which he's featured as a drummer, on of em being 'Do They Know It's Christmas' by Band Aid, which resulted in this concert

  • Comment removed

  • Phil Collins is a great drummer, but I dunno, this is a shittiest live version of the song I've heard so far.

  • Are they making fun of the audience or what?

  • and i miss bonzo!!

  • @hipnosis86 You and me, both, brother...John's style seemed simplistic..but it WASN'T..!

  • he says words have two meanings in the lyrics, now listen to the song backwards it has a hidden message

  • @thebarrybrown49 Fuck off

  • Comment removed

  • I think Plant crashed the solo on purpose to get it all over with. What a disaster this performance was!

  • 10 people have never bought a Stairway to Heaven.

  • led zeppelin from 1975 would beat up led zeppelin from 1985 lol

  • @vcval u obvious have no life

  • THIS IS NOT LED ZEP. ITS JON PAUL. PAGE, PLANT.

  • @theEricoeric and Phil Collins

  • @theEricoeric no life

  • @KabbalahWestCoast like i care what you think or say. lady gaga fan llol

  • @theEricoeric was that John Paul Jones on bass? I didnt recognise him, not that you see much of the bass player in the vid

  • @gg41r JPJ is at the keyboard. The bass player is Paul Martinez.

  • @theEricoeric and Paul Martinez, Phil Collins, Tony Thompson. It was doomed!

  • Who's the drummer????

  • @kmiloncho10

    looks like phil collins

  • @gtilles You're right. It's Phil Collins.

  • @kmiloncho10 phil collins ,,pelotudoooo...chichero anda la puta q te parioo

  • @facundozxt tons qien es marikon

  • @kmiloncho10 no te entiendo------------me encanta led zeppelin....lo unico q te puedo decir

  • Jimmy an plant don't sound so great!! what happened ? i guess to much party ing an drugs speed coke weed with no sleep

  • The very last second, when everyone joined in. I remember hearing that live, on TV. Wonderful moment, and I always wanted to hear it again. Thanks YouTube! Thanks, skylineboy64!

  • @inatangle no

  • lmfao it's not artist it's comoic boy led zepp is the a legend of the hardrock

  • lmao everyone's like

"oh it's such a shame that Jimmy Page was off in this performance"

i think that's hilarious because most of his solo was better than almost any average guitarist could do on an improvised solo, even on a good day..

  • lol, 7:33 tambourine breaks

  • I have 4 dvd from "live aid" but without led zeppelin on it's. very strange.

  • @susane16 led zepplin hated this performance and blamed it on phil collins who was drumming for them and have blocked every attempt to have it published since, personallyi believe they was all being pre madonas as they all hated each other at this time and didnt want to do this and was bullied by bob geldof to do it and they used phil collins as there scapegoat, you would except better things from artists of this stature.

  • @stellastey

Jimmy Paige was pissed out of his head & sloppy. He shouldn't blame the stand-in drummer. Nevertheless, the crowd seemed to love it.

  • @bodsnvimto lets be honest,if led zep played with mr blobby as there drummer the crowd would love it,there really hard to hate,i just think they couldve handled this better.

  • @stellastey WTF are you talking about??? The Zep members came and performed for a cause, not Bob Geldof. Phil played cuz Zep is an influence on him. Stop spreading lies asshat.

  • @fixmeplz 'stop spreading lies asshat'???? what are you 10?? when geldof first asked led zep to play they said no as jimmy page, robert plant and john paul jones wasnt even talking at the time, they never rehearsed or even spoke before they got on stage,so understandably they wasnt on top with there performance and decided to blame it on phil collins, dude grow up and get your facts right before you comment on something.

  • @stellastey Call me what ya want. I am neither 10 yrs old nor an asshat. I'm a veteran who has not only fought to keep your ass safe in this country, but also an intelligent follower of music. Page and Plant did NOT come back for this for Geldof, it was for the cause. Page bitched AFTER it that Phil made them sound bad. Obviously he never got his senses back after all that heroin. The fans saw them, loved it, and helped raise $ for the cause. The soap opera behind it all is just, idiocy.

  • @fixmeplz well seeing as 'asshat' is your childish bullshit word i cant help you on that as i dont speak idiot, and wtf has being a veteran got to do with this?? if led zep played so well that day why have they blocked this video being released ever since? phil collins hasnt(thank god for youtube) if you know so much about music why are you the only person who saw this that ISNT saying page was so off here, and ther soap opera you are crying about is the one you started,GROW UP.

  • Respond to this video... Page's sloppiest ever.

  • @fixmeplz yeh its a damn shame, its not easy watching the worlds best guitarist putting out such a sub standard performance.

  • @fixmeplz

Berlin, 1980 - the final Zep gig...far worse than this.

  • @fixmeplz Actually, Phil played because he and the band are friends, specifically Phil and Robert are friends, and on top of that, Phil just played drums on Robert Plants principle of moments recording.

  • Wooooww, between day and night playing this great song

  • Such a shame Jimmy was off in this, I love the guy, such an inspirational player.

  • I think even Plant was shocked at just how many people were singing the last line of the song at 9:42

  • If only Plant had gotten that last verse in the right key. In my opinion, that would have totally saved this performance.

  • 8 People did not get what they came for....... Tossers.

  • i could only ever dream of being this good but even in my dreams i am nothing to that man on the stage he is better than chuck whatever his name was hahaha XD

  • 0:37-0:44

Baked Jimmy Page, served with fumbly guitar sauce....

  • This is so unbelievable...wow man. Live @ Live Aid, Bob Geldoff's event, to help Africa. The biggest music event in history. The television, the whole day, the temperature, Bob Geldoff, Zeppelin...it was magic. Pure magic. Thanks for posting, and warm greetings from cold Holland!

  • they ever put the camera on john paul jones in any of there vids

  • I remember being 14,got permission to watch Live Aid,dragging a big tv in my bedroom so others could sleep. Me with a blanket in a chair recording it on cassette, still have them. Sometimes I look in the book & think back & now It's amazing to see it again!

How time flies btw... nowadays my 19 yo son,a guitarist, plays this song on stage with his band or alone 'cause it's 1 of his favorite songs. And I think it's great that the new generation of musicians respect these guys & see them as examples!

  • 1:34 plant is still enjoying playing with the great jimmy page

  • Why isn't this footage on my DVD set????

  • @HydrocephalusTube causa plant page etc seem this as infamous performance, and itt was disappointed

  • plant looks ridiculous lol

  • AWESOME, SALUTES FROM MÉSSICO!

  • This is HOTTT!!!!!!!! and u didn't know?

  • Muito legal, Led Zeppelin é a minha segunda banda favorita, só perde pros Titãs.

  • @SF0theGreat Thanks!

  • I really don't know why people hated this performance, honestly, after all those years they got back together quick to play a charity concert, so... thanks zep!

  • Yeah they should have had JPJ on bass not that new wave guy. His bass sounds like sh*t! I read they almost didn't ask Jonesy to perform at all...

  • @krikeymate afaik jones played several songs in the set on bass but changed to keys for stairway to heaven...and he did play that same bass

  • Let me see if I understand this... Jimmy Page is playing a solo and the idiot cameraman focuses on someone else?

  • @wolfacer you mean Bonzo, no Bono. :-)

  • bloody shame, it wasnt there best performance but you have to remember they were missing the key member bono on drums., colins was good in his own bad genisus.

  • Who was the drummer?

  • You all have to remember this was for a cause, lot of bands , not there sound system. Huge venue, oh ya and Jimmy still on smack. At least they were there!!

  • My opinion:

    - Plant had a decent performance.

    - JPJ did well on keys

    - Page was off and blamed everyone but himself

    - Phil Collins & Tony Thompson shouldn't be blamed, especially since there was basically no rehearsal

    - What makes this perofrmance worse than it actually is is the video quality and the bass. Why is someone playing bass for Stairway?

  • Just watch page on that guitar ;)

he is more than extra ordinary, lucky these people, who attended his concerts, i got birth in 90 and missed these great musicians, LED ZEPPELIN forever !!

  • Comment removed

  • Who's on bass?

  • @ninigui Paul Martinez. I reckon he did a pretty bad job :/

  • Don't put the shirt in the trousers, and take off such a slim-bottom trousers!

  • jimmy page with his moonface looks like pete doherty

  • freddy mercury was on the other side of the atlantic kicking ass ahhah

  • Right Around 6:01, Plant admitted he had a mini breakdown. He said "Singing the song without Bonzo there, just felt empty. It wasn't right. Then I had to sing The Piper's Calling You To Join Him, and that threw me a curve ball. I recovered, but it was not the same. Ya know what I mean?"

  • the sound of the bass is horrible... is he poppin' n' slapping to STAIRWAY?!?

all that chorus on jimmy's guitar - another victim of the 80's. *sigh*.

and for the record, plant screws up more than phil.

  • no jodass creo que es la primera vez que veo a tanta gente en un concierto!!, la cancion ni hablar, la mejor cancion que he escuchado ...

  • Well I can say, I don't care if this performance was bad (which it was, but could have been worse) it would still have been a mind blower to be there to see them!

  • I'm no Phil Collins fan, but JP has a reputation for blaming others when he sounds off, usually roadies and guitar techs. How he could pin this on Collins is ridiculous

  • The amount of suckage this performance exhibits is inversely proportional to the amount of awesomeness bonham could have added if he had been present

  • this was undeniably a subpar performance, but only by led zep's godly standards. for mortals, a performance like this would be the pinnacle of their life. even when led zep "sucked" they rocked

  • A great band, a classic of a song, but the performance was subpar--additionally, the sound and video are more like a home-movie quality--so this perhaps adds to the feeling of a "tribute band" sound. I'm a huge u2 fan, and the same comments can be found on many of their live performances-but u2 has figured out that SOUND QUALITY on the big stage is a huge factor-and they heavily invest in good sound equipment. Finally, let's be honest, it is a gift to sound as good live-Queen outdid themselves.

  • Shit.Deep Purple probably will demolish this concert!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it wasnt 10 years, it was only 5, this was in 1985 nd zeppelin broke up after John Bonham's death in 1980

  • i think led zeppelin had to stop when bonham died

not because there bad at this performance absolutly not there great

but led zeppelin was plant, page , bonham and jones !

  • Ten years changes a lot of things...

  • @millerhighlife2112 yes..but who on earth would NOT play even a single note in a performance like this one? ok..it is not the 73 tour, but...WOW! :-)

  • @jonesthecat00 Very true!!

  • Tony Thompson and Phil Collins on drums.

  • who did the drums for them?

  • Those 4 people listened to the radio music before listening to the classics

  • Best song ever, bad performance. Robert Plant & Jimmy page could do better...

  • 1:34 Robert's smiling :) why?

  • Phil Collins = WIN

  • Does anybody remember Laughter?!....

  • it's live, it's not going to be the same as the studio recording, I think it sounds great, and they are in 80's styles because it's the 80's.

I think he should drop the remember laughter bit, now that has gotten old for me.

  • On balance, Rolf Harris probably did it better.

    Discuss.....

  • I'm gonna be honest here and say if they would have asked Simon Phillips to drum and be the only drummer for this song they would have done better at least as far as the drumset is concerned. Not saying that Tony Thompson or Phil Collins are bad drummers they just don't have what it takes to drum for this song. I saw film of the Concert for ARMS and Simon did a great job at drumming for this song and it was just Jimmy Page by himself playing the song instrumentally too.

  • Horrible solo, horrible overall performance.

  • Great song, but the hair and clothes are too '80s.

  • @sabiab Might be something to do with it being sung in 1985. The song is from 1971.

    You should listen the original...

  • People hate on this performance too much because it's not as good as Zep USED to be. It's still a pretty phenomenal live performance by practically any standard. The fact that this is "trash" for Zeppelin is remarkable.

  • First off, let me say that Phil is a BRILLIANT drumming genius, so with that in mind, of course I"m going to defend him. He would have nailed this entire performance with Zeppelin note for note, but unfortunately, the late, great Tony Thompson is to blame here for the tempo problems. He was racing too much while Phil did what he could to keep it Bonham style. I still loved it & this stage is full of people who could do no wrong, but Tony played too fast while Phil kept the backbeat intact.

  • How can 4 people dislike Led Zeppelin thats blasphemy :P

  • @Maze49 i totally agree totally that is blasphemy indeed, those 4 who dont like it can burn in hell.

  • @Maze49 i really like ledzep but this solo is pure shait !
