  • i love your videos. lol im on my sisters account..

  • Hey i have a question. Both my parents are black/german 2 black grandmothers 2 white grand fathers um??? am i considered biracial? I cant be multi racial because milti racials have three or more different races and i only have 2 so im confused. Answer please. Thanx:)

  • @haikatrine2 lol! Most of the black women I know who grew up with the hot comb couldn't wait to get away from that thing! Flat irons are much safer for the ears, neck, scalp, etc. lol!

  • hilarious!!

  • Why don't you just use Maxiglide instead? The hot comb is barbaric looking.

  • Owww!! Oowwww!!!!!!! I still get it done to mine. In fact, I just came from getting it done. 2hrs max! I don't hurt when I go and it costs, but it looks good!! Yours looks good to Tiff. . . . .

  • omg, I had to learn to use a hot comb in beauty school, those things are wicked!

I've been meaning to ask you spur of the moment, I'm Dominican and Puerto Rican however my father has almost all African descent and all of my mom's great grandparents immigrated straight from Spain. So I could pretty much be your twin, but I was wondering if you'd still of think of those types of people as mixed although people just call us Hispanic or West Indian. Am I the Mestizo? lol

  • @Canyadigit2 Hi. I know that your question wasn't addressed to me, but it seems that if your parents are of Spanish (Spain) and African ancestry, even if they are from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, you are multi-racial.

  • @lanicert i thought so, but I was just wondering because some first generation biracial people seem to think people like me just want to be part of the club. But a lot of the issues she talks about I've dealt with myself.

    But thanks, anyhow!

  • Look, honestly, I really really want to hear what you have to say and some of it seems significant. But I find it very hard to watch your videos when you ramble off topic and speak so slowly with so many pauses. I would suggest approaching each video with an outline or something to reach a larger audience because your message is important, but it's just not getting out there.

  • I really enjoy your video blogs....they are very inspiring...I was wondering if you could adress they issue on skin COLOR and being mixed.ppl tell me i have pretty hair but thats the only way they like i am mixed.that makes me so upset because everybody who is of mixed is not of Light Color.I am black and Dominican but i have dark skin....what would you do in this situation?

  • Nice video sis.

  • omg my mom burned the mess out of me with that !!!

  • Haha back in the early/mid 90s when I was in junior high and highschool I would slather my hair with African Pride grease w/herbs, and then hot comb my hair... you couldn't wash that stuff out completely for like at least 3 days!! Has anyone here ever tried 'Wen' all purpose cleanser?... they always have late night infomercials on cable for it! I've read mixed reviews online... no pun on the mixed part, hahaha!! XD

  • Is your name really "Biracial Tiffany?"

  • are you black n white?

  • Tiff, not too often straightening the hair hey I have coily hair but when I braid my hair and unbraid I get your beautiful curls. To me our hair is not too much of a difference.

  • HOT COMBS, PERMS are not the best for our hair that goes if your biracial etc. In time it damages the curl pattern.

  • Just buy a chi flat iron. That thing will break ur hair off.

  • Being 1/8 black is different from someone who is biracial so I don't think it would of been so bad if he call himself white at that time since he is mostly white.

  • i became natural when I became fustrated with my hot comb because it left me ashes, some burn hair, and puffy hair,so I thank the comb for that.I don't want to press my hair again.

  • Comment removed

  • DON'T when we apply heat, perms, anything unnatural TO THE HAIR damages the curl pattern. I remember back in the 90's my hairdresser nearly cussed me out when she saw my hair texturize a bit coz I wanted to loosed up my curls, lol she was so mad as though it was her hair. I thank her for that, I'm all N-A-T-U-R-A-L......

  • u know when i first viewed this vid i couldnt figure out what that noise was at 1:18 to 1:22 i was like "what the hell?" lol but then when i saw ur "pics for mixed chicks" vlog. i was like "oh!!!it was Indy coughing the whole time." ;-D does he have allergies or something? or it's just happens from time to time.

  • You kinda remind me of Aaliyah!

  • I've always found it an irony how so many people of all hair types don't like their own hair, like the old proverb "the other mans grass is always greener" we all have this natural tendency to think that someone else's type of hair is better than our own, it's a funny old life eh??.

  • i've had some crispy ears in my day as a result of the hotcomb, but nothing too bad.

  • why are you using a hot comb when you can use straighteners? that stuff reminds me of when I was young when my mum used to use it without using any cream protector lol! I can still smell the singe -it smelt of pork lol!

  • it does smell like pork!! in my hair fire video i said the burning hair smelled like sausage. some people were surprised by that :)

  • It's funny that you mentioned that your not good at "multi-tasking", my mother wasn't either, she prefered to do one thing at a time, yet many hold onto the idea that women are better at this than men, I on the otherhand can do several things at one time and I'm a chap, (oh no...another myth destroyed...chortle), talking of myths, yes, your right again, not all "pass for white" bi-racials hid their true background, some did, yes, but not all, we've been badly misrepresented by some.

  • we really have been poorly represented by some. the real problem tho, imo, is that "monoracial" people seem to "need" to view us that way. i think because we challenge the conventional notions of race that they take for granted.

  • Your hair is amazing!! History lesson was great!! So educational, we need more people to do educational videos!! Your videos are great!

    You are awesome!

  • thank you so much :-D

  • I prefer to use a straightening iron on my hair. The idea of doing your hair in the kitchen is grubby. This is where people eat! By the way, you Americans are way too obsessed with race! I am multiracial, and I refuse to identify myself with only one race. I am proud of all of my ethnicities. People who expect me to be considered as one race are just ignorant, in my opinion. I love being mixed, I love being human. I don't care about skin colour at all. I care about a person's character.

  • btw im from louisiana and race in louisiana is seen from soo many angles its similar to brazil in that way. creoles in lousisiana catch a lot of heat for their racial identity bc some of them wanted to pass for white bc they wanted a better life, im a black man and my family did have some mixed raced people, but i definitely understand that some would want to pass for a chance at a better life.

  • i think we learned that plessy and a group of black supporters of staged this incident specifically to challenge the social structure of things, so yeah i think its important to point out that he was "turning his back on being black" or anything which doesnt make sense to attempt to do in a society where people know you are black.

  • you know, i recently learned that about plessy! thanks for adding that here. it changes the story some doesn't it.

  • isnt that weird alot of mixed people have dimples!

  • whaaaaat, wow ive never noticed that! i think your right.

  • wow i thought everyone had dimples plaease explain what you really mean cause my cousin isnt biracial and she has the same dimples as her so please explain...

  • i think licorishq meant that lots of biracial people have dimples. not that only biracial people have dimples...

  • lol. amen!

  • well then stop watching the video's

  • listen...this is America okay ma ma. Its not that big of a deal okay. I take that back...in the south people are still so narrow-minded...in more industrial, modern cities its all about educatioln ma ma. Reading is key. God made you into who you are. You are formed from the rib of a man who was formed in the likeness of God...so if anyone has a problem with you then they have a problem with your Heavenly Father as well ma ma

  • @daluckyprincess mulatto is a nice sounding word for half breed

  • @miitchwas I have not been to this video in over a year. I don't even remember what I said at this point lol.

  • @miitchwas Ok, I recently went through all of the comments to figure out what I said regarding why you replied to one of my statements, and I realized your respnse has nothing to do with my statement. I think you replied to the wrong person.

  • i HAVE BIRACIAL HAIR I WOULD SAY UNFORTUNATELY, BUT IM 13 AND I TRULY THINK I SHOULD EMBRASE THE FACT THAT IM BIRACIAL AND ALTHOUGH ITS OFTEN SAID THAT YOU CANT BE BIRACIAL UNLESS YOU HAVE A BLACK AND WHITE PARENT, I HAVE A BIRACIAL MOM AND WHITE DAD BUT I LOOK BIRACIAL AND THATS WHAT I MYSELF TELL PEOPLE AND PEOPLE AGREE SO THERES THAT...

  • You are not truly "biracial" then... if your mom is half & Half and your dad is "pure" white... you are a quadroon, (one-quarter African). And I am sure, a beautiful human being! I am "biracial" I have a creole (mixed) father and an Anglo-Indian mother.. and I look less than half black, so its all in the genes... I have confused many people!

  • It is very ironic the way we can confuse others as mixed race offspring, we don't do it on purpose of course, well I'm sure most of us don't but the assumptions that some automatically make about what we are or in some case what we are not means that we will often hear what wasn't principly ment for our ears, I think many will know what I mean ;), I used to think everyone heared what I heared when I was younger, it took me a while to catch on, I can only laugh, although it is sad as well.

  • Yes, thats what I dealt with a "lot" in school. I would be with "friends" from school, and they would be talking and mention something about someone being nice for a N****, etc. and I would almost go into shock thinking, don't they know my father is basically black? why would they say that in front of me?? I mean I don't look white!! Most black people can see black in others, but most other races still need to see darker skin and a so called PURE "African looking" person to consider them black.

  • Your videos are very GREAT;-D!

  • I remember getting a hotcombing, lol. Its been a while now. Your hair would do much better with a nice ionic flat iron. It looks around my texture. Mixed hair varies, lol. Make sure you protect the ends!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW:-)! You look very beautiful:-D! Congratulations to your parents by your procreation because they created a girl biracial very beautiful and intelligent;-D!

  • wow that's OLD SCHOOL!!!!

you got guts for using that

  • Hot combs are so ick! I hate them and what they stand for. Please consider leaving it curly, at least when you do your videos! pretty please XD... I know I'm nutty but what can I say... I have heard about the case that you speak of in this video and I understand the need to put it up.

  • WOW, you broke out the old school "pressing comb" as it is called in the deep south. I stumbled across a vid of yours by accident and the rest as they say is history. Louisiana the true enclave of bi-racial people. Unfortunately, they don't associate with black people of African descent and basically will disown family members who. Grand Marais, LA is the unofficial "capitol" for mixed people of the south.

  • i sure did :-) i'm so glad you stumbled. thanks again!

  • you look sooo pretty

  • :-D thank you so much!! And I'm glad you liked the interviews! More to come... Thanks so much for watching!!

  • wow do you have on make up this time, not saying you need any(no homo)but anyway it looks very natural. and if you do have on some what company is it by? thanks;)

  • no make up :) you crack me up with the "no homo" :-D

  • Thanks my dear for your wonderful videos. I sure wish I would have had someone like you around in the 80's when I was in school! I will be 40 in 2 weeks. And it was a serious challenge growing up in the OC in Irvine, CA with nothing but Anglos around thinking I was Latin etc.! But, when the only African American family in town finally moved into the area... they hated my guts. And I had never done a thing but exist. So needless to say, You are a blessing to many!

    Thanks dear!

  • Honestly, Why can't people like you just be happy with the way God made you, rather then alter your very being. You have taken away what made you, YOU? So you're left here with this entity that is no more then a fake person. I just don't understand.

  • WOW wrong VIDEO, please excuse that. Deepest regret. Sorry

  • thanks for that :-)

  • That was a strange video response that you got from that gay black man. I think he was jealous of you or something....

  • Sticks and stones...

  • i LOVE your hair!!

  • Thank you! That was weird. The weirdest thing for me was that I was laughing at the video. Especially at the end, so was it just a joke or so absurd that that's the only reaction to be had? Anyway thanks for watching :-D

  • lmao girl you got the old school hot comb!!! i haven't seen one of those in ages lol... mom used to hot comb my hair with one just like that back in the day

  • I rarely ever use it, but i have to admit that i love it. it's been with me a long time :-)

  • Hey! I have never used a hot comb, used to rely on my straighteners until I stopped relaxing my hair about 2 years ago and it was a frizzy mess growing it out. Yours always looks so nice and shiny:) Loving the history too:)

    See ya soon xoxoxo

  • i can't wait to hear about your relaxing experience. your curls are way beyond beautiful and awesome, so i just can't imagine you relaxing!! see you REALLY soon i hope! new iphone?

  • Dang girl! I haven't even seen a hot comb since I was about 9. I didn't know they still made them lol!

  • this one's old, but i think they still do make them. i think...

  • O0O AN i WANNA REPLY T0 THE SEC0ND PART i LEARNED THAT In SC00L HAHAH YEA i L0VE S0CiALSTUDiES/HiSTT0RY =]

  • i'm so glad to hear that you learned that in school! i may have been absent that day, but i really don't think they covered this where i went to school.

  • iVE JSU STARTED JUS SUBSCRIBED BUT im N0T G0IN N0WHERE! L0L i L0VE Y0UR VIDS =]

  • thank you soooo much!

  • You're smart and beautiful :o)

The texture of my hair is KIND OF like yours. I love your hair, it's beautiful =]

  • thank you so much! so much :-)

  • i was watching the wendy williams' show the other day & she referred to the "kitchen". She made it seem like it was a black people thing to understand. She didnt explain it either. I am black & i had no idea what that meant...UNTIL NOW. Then again it might be a black-American thing. I am a 1st generation American, 1st person on both sides of my family born in America. My parents are from Jamaica so i guess we dont know these terms, even though I've used a hot comb before. thanks for the info

  • thanks for watching and sharing that. i've been watching wendy lately and i kinda like it! i didn't think i would. i feel like i've earned or proven my blackness by talking about the "kitchen"!

  • actually i think your hair looks better with the hot comb than a relaxer. idk, thats just my opinion.

  • Do you think perms are better or hot combs?

  • i really can't say because i've never had a perm. i don't mind the hotcomb. a lot of people seem to think that they're really bad tho.

  • natural is great! i didn't get it chemically straightened. just blown out and pressed.

  • interestin vid, def subscribe. of caribbean origin but think its vital 2 kno bout all black histories, all links back 2 metanarrative.

  • thank you! i'm glad you enjoyed it. and i completely agree with you. we've got to know our history to create a better future in my opinion.

  • Gwan. Its funny how hearin bout n seein other black women with natural hair makes u feel part of some enlightened sisterhood. Really feel peeps dont no how relaxing hair isnt just relaxin hair, in not all but most cases, its denying black beauty n conformin 2 social consciousness. no ppl tht wld rather go bald than stop relaxin. They dont realise its a hairSTYLE n som black women just dont suit straight hair coz its incongruent 2 their features, but they'll mayb nvr realise that ...

  • just for the record... i have never had a relaxer. this is just blown out.

  • u dont need to thank us - we need to thank u. takin time out of ur day to school us on the world and history. we thank you!!

  • aww :-) that is so sweet. thank you!! and you are welcome.

  • Although I love the pictures in your apartment it's nice to see you with a different background!

Thanks for the book recommendation. I'm definitely going to order a copy of "Passing"; it sounds like a really interesting read.

  • thanks! new surroundings are always fun! i really hope you enjoy the book! thanks for watching and commenting as always :-D

  • Uhmm I just think that UR HAIR LQQKS b-u-tifull!!!thats it!

  • thank you very much!

  • Aren't you just a Female person.

  • yes! thanks for noticing :-)

  • Whew that hot combs looks scary, lol.

  • :-D

  • You cracked me up when you pulled that hot comb out...LMAO I have been watching your videos from the begining but have never left a comment as I feel torn at times regarding some or your topics or comments. But what the heck...the whole point is to have an open dialogue and respect each others opinions, so from now on I will comment with ease...hee hee

  • please comment!!! i'm glad i gave you laugh! and the open dialogue is what makes this thing work, so i hope to hear from you again :-)

  • True, dominicans etc are black/white hybrids so there is nothing wrong if someone calls you this.

  • i get that. it's not a bad thing. it's just not who i am.

  • As for being asked whether you're 'Dominican' or 'Puerto Rican' what's the problem? The population of Hispanic countries were founded on miscegenation and mixing,so I guess in essence people do notice a mixed look about you.

  • it's not a problem, like offensive or anything. it just has nothing to do with who i am. i don't speak spanish. it's not my culture. i can't explain it, but being mis-identified gets tiring. especially when people seem so disappointed in you for not being what they expected you to be.

  • Hot combs are old sckool!Takes me back.I wouldn't let one near my head these days though.

  • so old school! That's why i showed it :-)

  • Hey Tiff,

You know they have the Electric Hot combs now. Though they don't get as hott. They are still better than flat irons. Gotta love the Kitchen hair salon.

  • yeah, my mom has (or had) one. it never did work as well, but was good for traveling. i think they're better than flat irons for the edges. i don't see why some say that the flat irons are better for your hair. hot metal is hot metal, right?

  • i'm full black and i believe that was my first time ever in life seeing a hot comb...is that weird? lol

  • lol..not weird! i think people moved on to flat irons for the most part :-D

  • It's actually great that you haven't... they are very damaging to the hair! I have never used one either and I am mixed.

  • During Plessy and prior, I think besides obvious reasons for not passing, there was also something that holds true to this day. 'You can buy that house in a WHite neighborhood and hide that "secret" but once you reproduce, you have no clue what those kids might look like' was enough to scare enough people straight, basically. I have passing in my family in every direction and because of gender and location, I understand it. I just don't agree with it...but it wasn't my life, ya know.

  • i do know :-) i'm about to start "one drop" and i'm very excited to read the story of mr. broyard's "passing."

  • "Oh, are you Black and White?" Giggles! I had to Tiff! HAD to!lol. Can't believe you pulled out a hot comb. I have an electric one and even that one I can't bring myself to use anymore. I'm stuck on flat irons, but I make it a point to only flat iron twice a month only. Watching as I comment...Love landmark law cases. LOVE! Interesting news today, front page. 2042 majority shift. They are disguising it as Hispanic immigration only and not mentioning the vast number of people that check other.

  • :-D I usually use a flat iron. it's been a long time since I pulled the hot comb out. I have to say, though, that the flat iron just doesn't compare to the hot comb for getting the top closest to the scalp. they're great for the rest of it tho. I think someone just emailed me a link to the 2042 article!

  • I am so glad you explained that "kitchen" thing...I thought "what in the world is this girl talking about, what does a kitchen and hot combing have to do with hot combing???"

  • i mean...what does a kitchen and hot combing have to do with each other*** it's really early

  • :-)

  • lol...me too!
