  • Haha gotta love tercels eh? mines a tank too, and there really fun cars to drive

  • @1994chevy1

Yeah man. They are just all around awesome cars. Toyota really did something great with these :)

  • @tommartyn Haha fuckin rights bro

  • mine is a newer model and its a lot better than that

  • @spidermonkey651

    hahah, Oh is it?

Well.... I think thats kind of a matter of opinion don't you?

I'll give you that the next bodystyle had a little more power, and got a little better fuel mileage, but they're both kinda ugly cars. For the time period this car was made man, it was a seriously awesome thing to buy. Plus they had 4x4 ones! Great fuel mileage, Seriously reliable, Comfortable, handle well. Seriously awesome cars. The newer models are rocking cars too. For sure.

  • @tommartyn i really dont like toyota s they just suck to me i like american made cars the toyotas just are to small. i ment my toyota was in better con

  • ahh, gotcha. yeah, this really wasn't it good shape. But considering it was a free car, it was in pretty awesome shape :)

Yeah, american cars we well made back in the 60's and earlier, then things went really down hill fast. Right around the time that toyota was starting to really make some reliable, simple, fuel efficent, affordable cars, that would last hundreds of thousands of miles past their American counterparts. Alot of people truely needed cheap reliable fuel efficent cars.

  • Whenever someone films like in the end, I'm always waiting for the camera to get run over :P

  • @SuperKONR

hahah, i bet that actually happens alot. Now a days, with the digital cameras, it would probably destroy the video files. The older Mini DV tape setup i have might survive. the tape might at least :)

  • @tommartyn lol "Lets see how the new HD camcorder works!" *scrunch* Those tiny tapes would probably survive.

  • was this a 4x4 tercel? the engine is mounted in a north south. and the front wheels are turning. but the back ones arent? idk. lol

  • @highdeserthater

Yeah isn't that awesome? Its a 2x4, front wheel drive tercel, but that was how they mounted the engines! Probably made it easier to design the 4x4 ones, being that it was already set up like this. Thats just how toyota started doing front wheel drive. most of their stuff was still RWD, this was their first car. They had a starlet, which was basically this car, you know, a rabbit looking car, but it was RWD! like those GM hatchbacks that were rwd. Except Well Made :)

  • I bought an '86 Tercel 4WD Station-Wagon last May as my first car for $200. Oh my lord, what a steal the car was. It hasn't failed me yet. Had to saw off the catalytic converter and put a new stereo in, and tuned it up a bit (new valve cover gasket, spark plug wires, cleaned the carb, etc.) and it simply runs amazing. Doubt the 4WD would take that kind of torture you put your SR5 through, but it's amazing to see this.

Doing a sea foam treatment to mine this weekend. Worth it. :)

  • @rocky5051

That is awesome: ) I got this beast for free if I remember correct, and drove it on the road for a while until I finally gave into the fact that it needed too much work to get it inspected. I had a 4wd one too with a blown engine. I wish that it had worked.

  • @rocky5051

Just wanted to add, that we loved this car like crazy. the guy who gave it to me, had bought it 10 years ago or something for a couple hundered bucks because his main car was getting fixed. He thought it was only gonna last a month or so. but he drove it for months, and ended up out living his main car, and i believe he said, 2 more cars as well. All while being incredibly reliable, and awesome on gas. This has a 1.6L corolla engine in it, and i still got 30MPG :)

  • @tommartyn Well, every Neon my PARENTS picked up, anyway. Does it really matter? :P

  • @rocky5051

yeah, Neon's are junk for sure. Toyota was really making some extremely high quality vehicles for a long time there :) all the american companys fell way behind. I like old Chrysler stuff for alot of reasons, but from 80's up they really took a turn for the worst mostly. Especially with their cars and all.

We never got the chance to test our 4wd tercel out. Its really a shame, if i would have known i was going to get this beast i would have kept it. Popped this engine in :)

  • @rocky5051

Any time we see a tercel driving around on the road, we smile alot, and talk about how happy the driver must be. they really are amazing cars for sure. any one who has one is so lucky. Our one friend sean, is about 6'11", and so almost every car is uncomfortable for him, but in this thing, the seat actually moved back with plenty of room for him! haha, and it was toyotas bottom of the barrel car :) with an sr5 package though. Just amazing machines. I think the 4wd's can hang :)

  • @tommartyn All of that is simply amazing. I've tended to compare the Tercel to similar econo-class cars like the Neon...and it really doesn't do them justice. They were manufactured with the same quality in mind as they did to their other vehicles up until the Yaris replaced them. Every Neon we've ever picked up after similar use to a Tercel was set to blow up.

Speaking of blowing up, Forums left me with the impression that the 4WD trannys were weak. YouTube seems to be proving otherwise. lol

  • this should be in my movie look up tercel tha most loved and most hated car in the world!!!

  • that looks like my driveway.. Uncle Cletus says I got the finest collection of cars this side of the Gator belt.

  • @mudguts

What other awesome cars do you have in your collection? :)

  • Gotta love your mega 'romp-pumping' the gas pedal to prime the carb!

  • You should have Toyota put this video in one of their commercials, saying "after 26 years and relentless abuse, Toyotas still run strong!"

  • :) yeah! we've talked about that alot. we've tested so many old toyotas, and they all take such crazy beatings. This one advertising actually did pay me to use less then a second of footage of my 83 4x4 toyota truck in a toyota commercial! :) they went on youtube and looked for some extreme clips of toyotas, then offered us money to use it. pretty lucky :) i sent them about 20 minutes of footage though, wish they could have used more.

  • Nearly sounds like a diesel.

  • is that great stuff on the sunroof? good idea! it wont leak then!

  • :) yep, you know it! my boss had me use some at work, and said to throw away what was left in the can, because the nozzel's get shot after one use pretty much. so i said i'd take it home and try to use it :) worked out good. Kept "Rat Car" a little drier. Thats what the previous owner Jeff had named this car :) "Rat Car"

  • haha yeah I can see that the nozzles would get clogged easily.

  • i just got a 1991 tercel for $1 hahahah it only needs a windsheild and a new brake line

  • Nice! That is a deal :) those year's are awesome too!

  • Do you sell cars?

  • nah, but when i have money, i tend to buy alot of them :) Good thing i don't sell them though, after i'm done with them, they aren't in very good shape.

  • Dude, im 17, just got my first car. A 1988 corolla SE, same 1.6L engine as that Tercel and its invincible. Set me back $150 and i love it. You want a reliable car that you can use as a truck? Get yourself a toyota corolla haha.

  • :) that is awesome! 150 bucks! can't beat it :) Thanks for sharing that man, always glad to hear about peoples cool toyotas!

i had a rear wheel drive 1982 toyota corolla with a 1.8L. That thing was awesome!

  • Hahaha cheers for the responce man, if i said that on any other video i'd get my head kicked in by some keyboard warrior from germany.

Take care dude, i'll have to upload myself doing some stupid shit in mine!

  • to make a reverse 180 theres no need for brakes.... , swing her then turn her ;)

  • i know, but i was trying to have it slide with the brakes. i get tired of the normal stuff after a while, and try to come up with new things. but it wasn't really slippery enough for sliding with the brakes. i had a 1984 Dodge ramcharger with no rear drive shaft that would do awesome reverse 180's! kinda scary though, being that high up and all. but it never even thought about tipping, so it was cool.

  • LOL awesome video. But let it crank man! LOL

  • YOU CANT BREAK A TOYOTA

    GIVE UP MAN

  • Dude, your vids ROCK!!!!!

  • thanks man! glad this worked out. glad this guy jeff gave me this tercel for free. we get lucky like that some times.

  • it looks like drugs dealer car men :)))

    hahaha,.. nice post bro

  • could save alot of gas money dealing drugs with that car! Thanks! toyotas rock

  • hehe nice! buy a ford! or something at least made in the USA!

  • if american vehicles could do what toyotas can do, then i wouldn't need them. and if toyota's could do what chrysler can do, then i wouldn't need for them. see what i'm saying? everything bassically has stuff about it that is better then other companys. and vice-versa. so you really need all of them. but, the main thing is, no stock 4x4 american truck, can out romp a stock 79-87 4x4 toyota. just the way it is. they're better for that. so that's why you need them. and FWD toyotas are just fun!

  • yeah but you gotta have some pride in your country

  • maybe in ways it deserves, but not senselessly. not just act like everything american is the best just because we live here. that is just fake, and don't make any sense. things are good because they are, not because of where your mom pop's you out.

  • Comment removed

  • what the hell man? thats a horrible thing to say about people! what if you'd been born there, and you were their height, then some stupid asshole american decided to say some mean stuff about your height for absolutely no reason other then to put you down because you wern't born wher he was. how would you feel then? thinking you are better then people in other places is not something you should have pride in. its something to should feel bad about. why would you want to be mean?

  • Comment removed

  • these are old vehicles that i buy in america, from americans, and pay tax to america... and insurance, and parts. all american... my money from buying these trucks goes to the american economy. i'll never buy a new truck, so i don' have anything to do with helping out the actual companys. this was actually a free car.. but it would have been bought from an america, not toyota, or japan. just some dude. that pretty much solves it. buying used 80's toyota's does not help their economy

  • Apparently height doesn't reflect grammar ability....

  • Comment removed

  • So..... your a white supremacist? Its funny though because, even though cars made in Japan where they are more prone to rust, actually end up not being as rusted out AND lasting much much much longer than any car made in America at that time.

  • Comment removed

  • Its hard to have pride in something that isn't a best effort... Do you have pride in your school work that you get a D or F on? I wouldn't be surprised if you were since you've obviously been brainwashed by the American car makers

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry if the truth hurts buddy.

  • Comment removed

  • how often do you buy an American car? or how often do you take it into the shop? OR how much money have you put into YOUR American car?

  • Comment removed

  • are you kidding me? Dou you even own a car?

  • Comment removed

  • Do you even own a vehicle? As in you yourself, not your parents.

  • Comment removed

  • Theres a big difference if you own it or if its not yours, you don't know how it acts when it drives, my guess is your not even 15.

  • Comment removed

  • a truck is pretty damn useless if your not going to drive.... not to mention the old F-150's are fugly

  • Comment removed

  • most old dodges and chevys, probably fords had the same exact engines in their cars and their trucks. i don't get the FULL v8 thing.

  • Comment removed

  • i don't understand what you mean by FULL v8. old v8s in cars have the same amount of power bassically as the trucks.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, they are vicious. my 69 chrysler 300 has a 440 in it. serious big block action. huge heavy car, thats posi, and can rip shit sideways. i'll send you a video of the beast. insane car.

  • Comment removed

  • it won't let me send it to you, just search through my videos, or look for anything with the 69 chrysler 300 in my videos. its an awesome car.

  • @fordwillkillyou GOD FUCKING DAMN!!! WHEN WILL YOU IDIOTS STOP THE HATE? CARS ARE NOT GAY, AND THE PEOPLE WHO ABUSE THAT TERM SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR FIRST.

  • I don't get why people abuse their tercel.

  • there are a few good obvious reasons,

they are cheap to get, so people don't mind if they break

they barely use gas, so you can romp alot.

they take ALOT of abuse because they're toyotas.

doing this kind of stuff with a tercel is an unbelievable amount of fun. thats probably the main reason.

and finally they are really really seriously ugly and stupid looking cars.

don't put it down unless you've tried it

This Was a free car, that would have gone to a scrap yard to be crushed by the way...

  • Thx for the detailed response, and it's a good one. Still, it looks like it still had another 100k mi in it, and you could donate it so that some 16yr old in central america could tune it up and save its life. Thx again.

  • Restore that old Tercel! :)

  • i thought about it a few times, but the interior

is completely saturated by mouse urine and feces. i've cleaned it off of most of the surfaces we touch, but its soaked deep into the seats, and its all in the heater system, and any other crevice the mice could find for the 10 years this car sat at the dudes house, back by his shed. thats why it was free. that smell could never really be removed.

but man, its an awesome car to drive. on and off road.

  • whats with the spray foam everywhere is that holding the car together

  • yeah... it sort of is. on the tercel its keeping water from leaking in the sunroof thing, and in through the windshield, and on the subaru its to keep the toyota grill from bashing around, and keep the battery from getting messed up when it hits the alternator. and the stut mount is shot on the subaru too, so i filled that up with foam too. just because there was some left in the can.

  • i love how you do burnouts with the hood up
