they are known as east european German shepherds or better as Russian German shepherds,originated from a cross with a German shepherd and the Russian sheep dog.they kept the shape and colour of the German one but are bigger with less hip dysplasia.Breed by the military.Been trying to get my hands on them but it seems not popular outside Russia sadly.With UK quarantine laws will not be possible to import them.;

@AramAdajian Not the strongest. Mastiffs have stronger bites - Pitbull terriers are much more brutal with their attacks. The reason why GSDs are used is because OVERALL they are the "best" - they are not the strongest that goes to Mastiffs, not the fastest that goes to Greyhounds, not the smartest either Border Collie comes to mind and don't have best scent goes to Bloodhounds . BUT they do all those above average so overall they are good.

(I don't with my personal dog since he is insane and requires a choke chain most of the time, but that's with limited problems for him, more and maybe I'd change to a harness too) . I love dobermanns, they're the most beautiful dogs to look at but i'm afraid they can't be used for that. They're fast and smart but they don't carry the muscle for the job. Rottweilers have the exact same intelligence and speed but carry more power, so they're preferred.

Rotties are awesome biters BUT CANNOT take the cold (and are more for guarding and cannot get motivated on their own. As with Dobes. Dobes are too light, can't take the cold and do tend to go a bit MORE insane. Going off on their own and taking towns hostage. I DO love that in them. The BEST all around dog (ripping new butts, with the smarts, the muscle AND taking the heat and cold?

Nothing against Dobermans, they are good, but the German shepherd stayed with the military while the Doberman was phased out. The German shepherd is the #1 guard and protection dog simply because they are the only dog with the complete blend of power, speed, agility, drive, and smarts,, and are awesome at using it to there advantage!

Your very wrong, you should ask any professional dog training facilities about the best dog for the job, good german shepherds come at #1 all round. I've seen german shepherds outrun dobermans 90% of the time, they also have a stronger bite when your comparing good purebreds together.

I heard that Dobermans can go crazy quite often. For example during a thunder storm, they get scared and can chew you up regardless if your the owner or not. So perhaps due to that they are not used in the military anymore, because the muzzle flashes and loud noises get to them.

Do you know that during the second world war Soviet Union trained these very same dogs to carry bombs under enemy tanks where they'd explode themselves up? But the plan backfired and was scrapped since the dogs couldn't make a difference between an enemy tank and a SV tank.
