  • Simply the best...! Get it kids!

  • Gibby and the other guy they haz teh Downs

  • glad i gave this video a try.. yippie kye aye

  • sounds like a song that would be on digital dump by jackofficsers

  • that beat is the shit

  • I don't know about death, but if Gibby Haynes IS reality, then that would explain a few things about the world today!

  • I have great memories of seeing this band in 1992.. I have to agree, they are an amazing band and Hairway to Steven is a masterpiece.. I know its hard for some people to take lyrics like "I saw an x-ray of girl, passing gas.." seriously.. but that was brilliance of this band.. One big long acid trip, that kept you interested and intrigued.

  • Butthole surfers did so much more for music than they get credit for. I wonder sometimes if they had a different band name they might have got more fans. A lot of people just hear the the word butthole and dont even listen to them cause they think its some joke. Man there missing out, cause butthole surfers is no joke.Their fucking the fathers of hardcore punk.

  • At 5:21 Gibby sets his own middle finger on fire and flips the crowd the bird. A flaming fucking middle finger. God I love this band.

  • @FunhouseJr I was at this concert at the Mean Fiddler, they had bass speakers on the ceiling which kind of pissed me off. They wanted to do bad things to you, great band tho.

  • Don't look at me friend.

  • Paul Leary is Hendrix on even more acid.

  • They took ALL the acid, so the rest of us wouldn't have to. They did it for America.

  • is this the same version of jimi from the double live bootleg? been along time. memory is fucked.

  • Whirling hall of knifes is their masterpice

  • Comment removed

  • I've got a Thermonuclear devive. ~Haha!

  • The Surfers Rule!

  • 100poits!

  • your hope is lost youre bleeding now your dreams forever black

  • crazy, kinda makes me motion sick haha

  • anybody here ever heard of skullmonkeys

  • paul leary musta been a manic depressive mute who only talked with what he did with guitars

  • @Abortive don't forget the effects that he is bending!!

  • im pretty sure that the younger generations should be force fed this music and this band and theyre ideas and then mainstream media music wouldnt suck so much ass

  • tucker, I'm pretty sure you are correct.

  • YEAH!!!! The Butthole Surfers are my idols.

  • @tuckerplowden fucking Right

  • @tuckerplowden It wouldn't do any good. People got their monopolies on the industry. People with very particular specs for the scene...Nothing that isn't HxC or Post HxC, and even Pop/Punk makes it anywhere near even local venues.

  • @tuckerplowden Ex-fucking-actly!

  • @tuckerplowden a small number of us do.

Everyone else is soo far from this music that it's just crazy. All they know is top 40 rap and the hardest they will go is fuckin Shinedown.

makes me shit all over the place

  • wow i have that eye on mind since i was 13 yo. and it is still bothering me. i think i will try it one day with some mirrors :P wish me luck.^^

  • is this from bind eye sees all dvd?

  • Nah - it's from a TV show called SNUB that was shown on BBC2 in the UK about 1989 to 1990. I've still got lots of clips from the series on VHS somewhere. This was by far my favourite, though. I think I prefer this version of JIMI to the album one.

  • It's a great version, but I miss the sheep from the album version.

  • pinkus is tripping balls

  • lsd is a powerful drug...

  • cocaine is a powerful drug

  • not this powerful

  • that talk on the eye was mind blowing.

  • also does anyone know where i can find more videos of live shows from this era? if you could PM me stuff it would be immensely appreciated, it's hard to find BH stuff like this, it's so mindblowing.

  • this transcends beyond music, it is art. i love every single BHS album/release but Jimi and HtS are simply masterpieces. this was at their pinnacle. BHS is often overlooked, especially for what they did in the "punk" genre, i think they were much better than what came before them and certainly after. this song conjures so many images in my head from different times in my life, and only a few songs can do that. i was only a baby when this was made, but it still sounds groundbreakingly new

  • @captainpungent BHS are one of the few bands that can bring back memories of times you never even lived through, and of things you never experienced..

  • simply incredible

  • would be nice, or a video of last years British tour would be also great. what im on the look out for is a audio or video recording of a live version of the track Perry

  • weirdest thing is that clip on the snub show where Teresa says ive got a beat for you. isnt on the rushes of the whole filming, so im guessing there is more out there that still hasnt been found

  • cool

  • you should see the full film of this its hysterical, as they go to the a shop and and buy nitrous oxide, also they get fireworks and fuck about in the studio for ages making beats for the Jack officers album

  • Like when i ate shrooms in 89 at the show

  • Badass, fucking funny as hell in the beginning, this is when they were all high up on drugs in the 80s.haha coool and fucking funny too, glad they clean themselves too!

  • Im not a cop, does anyone know where to get any acid...message me

  • im not either if ya find out let me know

  • i think dealers sell acid

  • hmmm i didnt think or that.....im gonna go find one what do they look like?

  • Comment removed

  • The European Parliament says that in 2009 we have to do 25% less acid and mushies, and that our weed should get more bad-ass by an average of 10% per annum over the next 10 years. It's political correctness gone mad.

  • How many times did I see this lot? No fucking idea. Subterrenea, Brixton Academy et al. A long time ago in a Universe far, far....no shit - that was another dream....

  • well they are back with this line up as they played last year at the Forum london

  • yeaaay, I booked the Buttholes for this gig, way back at the original (and best) mean fiddler in Harlesden, was a very special night, thanks for posting...

    x

  • jonny was a little cripple midget lesbian boy,but he stood ten foot tall with his wife

  • with a knife, not his wife

john never went outside, therefore, total of 0 wives for john

  • I am having a Flashback! But, all if good!

Also, for the WEIRDEST reason, this is the only song that I can play on guitar!!!!! Things stopped making sense a long time ago... this is good.... good

  • These cats always make slop look good. Artistes galore, man.

  • damn i like this, i think it made sense

  • I taste the Ganja in my mouth

  • Thank You. Thank You very much

  • cryed the whole way through that one.the buttholes know how to pull on the old emotion strings.....

  • Yes, drugs are involved, but they are in Texas. You would be on drugs to if you were in Texas. No cable there and they still have not heard of the internet. No Onstar either.

That way Leatherface gets lost people for his bbq. Yay BBQ!

  • are they on dope

  • they are on acid, alot of acid.

  • just like the guy said under me. hes right. tons of acid, shrooms, and of course good old fashioned weed.

  • This track and the album before it still scares the shit outta me!

  • Sunb was the nuts!

  • Lol 4:10 to 4:18 Gibby is drunk out of his mind

  • drunk is an understatement.

  • Has anyone seen Lou Reed's comb? He lost it on a tangent of feedback at a surfers show in '87 and his soul has been trapped in Double Live ever since so if you find it could you please return it to the end of the spiral then go back out and start over again. kthnxbye

  • Lou's comb is in the catacombs.

  • im a dredged stone wearn rocks of forbidn might dippn into the foresaken pemplelobe of my mind

  • Where's Daddy?

  • This is some of the only footage that exists on the internet of the butthole surfers during this " Era ". When it was Gibby, Paul, Jeff, Theresa, and King.

I believe the end is one of Gibby's famous staged fights. He used to arrange with someone he was friends with yell at him and threaten him the whole show before finally pretending to pummel Gibby in an elaborate staged fight. The whole point of their shows was to make it as uncomfortable and chaotic as possible

  • Actually that was my friend Philip who I pushed onto stage when he was trying to climb on some guys shoulders so it wasn't planned. Reason why I did it was that he had got a ticket earlier off a tout and went in leaving us outside. He'd never really heard of the Buttholes before that gig at the Mean Fiddler and has always been a tosser.

  • How ols is there frontman now?

  • 50, or 51. He was born in 1957.

  • Butthole surfers had the best rythm section !

people only focused on gibby but the drummers made the sound . been a fan since 1986

  • "I have come ten trillion miles to travel upon your earth, and with his hands the fiery beast may consummate my birth...locusts,flys,and filthy beasts shall crack the ocean floor...have given life to fiery hands that open up the door"

    classic shit

  • Wow I didnt know those were the words! I got the fiery beast bit i think amongst all the other stuff, ie not intelligible to man or erm beast.

  • HOLY FUCKING AWESOME LYRICS

how did you find them out?

  • I've always thought the lyrics were about a guy fucking his daughter, but what do I know?

  • I had sounds mag when it came out, had a bit on the lp im sure it's.... I have fucked and vilified and travelled all your earth...

  • this was the Mean Fiddler in Harlsden, i pushed thr guy on stage who Gibby kicks.

  • Sounds like they like the residents, sounds very influenced from duckstab/busterglenn residents, frikkin love these guy.

  • Lysergic Acid Diethylamide.

  • love this song... degaulle30 said it best 3 weeks ago "Such a great album with a masterful opening track."

  • Hoping they break out with their epic version of this when they play this summer. Please oh please oh please.

  • the buttholes are buttholes!! That is and of itself; enough for me. I just listened to my daughter sing florida. who has more fun than weeeeeee!!!!

  • SUUUUUUUUWEEET

  • Such a great album with a masterful opening track.

  • haha sounds so evil live =]

  • fuckin awesome

i want one of those things that do that 2 his voice!!

  • gooood

  • god, I SO remember watching this on the telly. Gibby and his video feedback! lol

Saw these guys at Reading in 89 and it rocked! Hairway to Steven is a great album lol

  • so are these guys like always on acid or something

  • Actually....yes. Read "This Band Could Be Your Life." The chapter dedicated to the Butthole Surfers is by far the best.

  • back then......

  • you asshole DKs are Dead kennedys great band i wish the modern music was like BS

  • well your'e just thinking of mainstream stuff. The butthole surfers were hardly mainstream inthier day. you gotta look.

  • I saw these guys in san fran in '86 open for the DKs...nude chick on stage, crazy strobe action, films of circumcisions or something in the background...god, I loved acid and speed and beer and heroin and weed!

  • Whos the DK's? haha

ACID! WEED! BEER! all great, but herion no. . . thats to hard to handle afterward for me. Plus I regret needle marks yo haha

  • I hear ya! Death on a stick! That was a long time ago, cowboy.

  • Dead Kennedys

  • fuck yeah!

they r my 2 fave bands

that would have been so good

  • everytime i here these guys i always admire the guitarists use of feedback and an almost deill affect, that mixed in with the almost cerebral talk, i love it

  • love that first 15 seconds where TerNervosa is putting zoot into her brain.

  • This song on the record is just incredible, epic, joyous, spine tingling. God I love this band, fuck all their critics, far more subversive than most anything else.

  • I grew up in San Antonio and used to watch them practice in the front yard on Huisache St. a block or so away from SAC and Hogwild records (1985-1986?) I think they either lived in that house or friends rented it. There was always a keg and we would hang out and freak out with them. Still loving BHS 22 years later.

  • she's blowing bubbles, look closer.

  • this was a very long song on hairway

  • Yep. 12 minutes.

  • ooooooooooooh that felt good to watch and hear

  • lol the lava lamp!

  • ha ha ha ha ha! all my dreams come true! watched this when i was seriously into sonic, big black and anything else i could find that was too loud to listen too. must have been early 89, remember where i was when i watched...I was in a band called Happy Shrapnel at the time ;-)))))

  • i like the song Texas by John Wayne

  • I was at that gig. Mean fiddler. the guy in the grey jumper pushing Gibby into the crowd is my mate Gavin.......he looks so young.

Gibby actually poured lighter fuel over a cymbal, lit it and threw it out into the audience. You don't get bands like that anymore.

  • Comment removed

  • i remember that when it came on the t.v. and i worked in a bank and would come home, ignore all my stoned student fucking housemates, go to my room, put on the surfers and only then could i have the piece of mind to talk to them.

  • This song is called Day of the Dying Alive.

  • DotDA is an alternate title. The version on Hairway to Steven was Jimi.

  • ahh... i stand corrected.

  • 1.2. Butthole !!!!

If you were there back then, you know who the world's greatest band was, well and still may be. C'Mon Gibby !!!

  • Butthole Surfers. Warped, fucked in the head, and all kinds of awesome.

  • Hmmm... the phrase 'self-indulgent' comes to mind.

  • This is from the UK BBC2 show Snub TV circa 1989..one of the greatest music shows ever..none of this comedian presenter bullshit in between..just great new music.

  • butthole surfers are one my favs but this is shit interview with them. Their friggin crazy I don't remember them being this weird.

  • this vid is from the mid 80's i think, if anything they were far weirder back then

  • Tasty

  • butt s up that s live

  • They cut out the bit at the end of this video where Gibby pours lighter fuel on his hand and sets fire to it. Dang!

  • Where did this fine bit of video hail from?

  • blind eyes sees all dvd filmed about 87 or 88 track is from hairway to steven cd 1988 jimi is in my opinion in the top five rock tracks of all time the cd version is even better than this one at around 13 mins other great butthole locust abortion technician 87, double live cd89 and widowermaker 3 inch cd 89 good luck casiosgoodies

  • Jimi is one of my favourite Butthole Surfers songs, and that looked an awesome gig.

  • Hairway to Steven. That is all I have to say!

  • it was from H.T.S. I always thought the heavy persona as opposed to the tweaker stick figure high voice was saying "you're dreams forever blaired"?????

  • "Your dreams forever PLAUGED"

  • There definitely are some mindmelting parts to that song, which album is that one off of, rembrandt pussyhorse?

  • "Hope is lost - you're bleeding now - your dreams forever plagued!"

That solo gets me every time. Mindmelting.

  • My favorite line too!

  • ahhh, the joys of LSD

  • beautiful! thanks for uploading!

  • If you think this is mind-numbing fucked up shit, you have experienced anything yet. The BH Surfers get even more out of this world from here...

  • fantastic! fucking geniuses these guys are

  • i am complete now and have come full circle (see favorites or my postings of videos). Since that woodstock tab was via mt bike talking to dear seeing folks at hidden park beach with facial distortions during the peak of this vacation. The second and only time i had headphones with de la souls first pink lp. there are my skeletons and i have worked my way back to balance the forces that were raised and have traced back each step. as i said before now i am one.

  • God, that show looks so hot and that's an awesome song.

  • oh yeah, this is really where it's at. Thanks for posting this stuff is mental and i love it

  • mind bending

  • GIBBY!! SWEET GIBBY!! ruler of my dreams!! this is so good i just shit myself. thanks you so much mr bartzilla xx

  • wow! thanks sooo much for posting this i love this interview. I still quote the firing the pineapple at will ...and at bill and cecil bit to people. i thought that was the funniest thing ever when i was fifteeen!

  • Absaloute proof, the best band in the world, but what do i know about reallity x

  • To answer Bungle's question, this was around '86 or so. These guys were crazy way before Mr. Bungle. Great trip music.

  • whoa two drummers standing up

  • Thank You for posting this. I'm in my thirtys now but these guys were my fav band when I was a teenager. This show still looks a little before my time. Thank you.

  • well. blow me away mustardly. senses assulted. thanx.

  • Gibby is the Orson Welles of alternative music

  • So what time period is this in then? I know Butthole Surfers spaned frm the 80's, 90's and are maybe still going now.

...They remind me of Mr. Bungle a bit. The crazyness.

  • What do you know about reality?

    I AM REALITY!!

    gr8 vid.

  • This was when music was truly dangerous, wild, and unpredicable. When bands like the Surfers and Jesus Lizard would play, you never quite knew what was going to happen. An all out assault on the senses.

  • Hey - newsflash!! Music didn't stop being dangerous wild or unpredictable when the Buttholes turned to shit. There are still plenty of great bands out there if you just get off your ass & explore. People who think that music stopped being any good just because their favourite band disappeared up its own ass are idiots.

  • Greaaaattttttt!!!!!!!! I love this footage sooo much!!! I agree with pressgang completely.......What an amazing band this was during this period of time.....damn....Just sheitttt hotttt.

  • Vive Le' Surfers!!!

  • fantastic footage of the live gig at the george robey, where soo mnay people didn`t get in that a small riot took place outside of the building, as only about 300 people could get in, if only they could be like that again, and not like the last 3 studio albums. or maybe even tour the u.k again as a proper tour and not just a festival visit,

It would be great to see the buttholes on english turf one more time, in london,

  • errr think you will find that's the original Mean Fiddler in Harlesden not the Robey, I shoudl know I booked it!, oh that the big backdrop that says Mean Fiddler!

  • i stand corrected

  • good vid, when they were still great.
