The only thing it's bad at is consitency -> in the nebula's appearance (once you're using still images from the motion picture, in other scenes it's a more gasious anomaly, one that we're accustomed to with DS9/VOY/ENT). Other than this one tiny nitpick - a perfect recreation, hats off to you, Sir!
@CJCA915 We must see it! This is great CJ! You say you have a better quality? I can;t imagine when will we see it? This is amazing you got some amazing talent. How did I not see this before! Damm it i'm going through your video history! lol
This is really nicely done. What would've nailed it though, is if you'd worked past the technical stuff that makes it feel computery. 2d Motion blur in the Maya render settings will help a lot. The starfield, moon texture and nebula pattern drags this down a lot for me. I would also suggest a DVD ripping program that will give you proper audio. James Horner is The Ultimate, but without the sound effects this feels a bit hollow. The ships look great though, and I love the torpedo effect.
@CJCA915 Curious here. Is it the form of the word "retard" that you find misplaced? Perhaps your preference is not to use "retard music" as it simply denotes a type of music directed at retards, as opposed to, say, "retarded music" which is a sound anthropomorphisation? Or did you have a more fitting expression in mind?
@Bobopoa Retard means to hinder or to hold something back... hence mental retardation... ones mental faculties are hindered or held back... Airbus aircraft's GPWS often use "retard" upon landing, telling the pilots to retard the engine power... or to hinder the engine power... if it's used in any other way, that's when I have a problem... calling someone or something retarded to say that they're or something is dumb or stupid, is exactly like calling something "gay" for the same reason...
Perfect - from the models to the textures. You even got all the animations right. Good job. Although it looks rather CPU intensive (I noticed the framerate dropped by a small amount a few times). Was that during the original or did YouTube mess it up?
You really caught the movements perfectly. Nothing jerky or "programed" about it--it's more than just a spot-on match to what's in the movie. The feel of the ships is real! Best part is the ending, when the Enterprise is sneaking up on the Reliant. Great stuff!
Great stuff. The feel of the motion is dead-on. No 'dog-fighting' moves, just slow ship-to-massive-ship warfare of the naval tradition that inspired it. The source lighting is the only area I think still needs some tweaking. Otherwise, awesome.
favorite part is when the Enterprise makes that sharp turn and gets the Reliant in her crosshairs. battle would've ended right there if she didn't get rocked by the storm that was a small distance away.
Shouldn't be, because I am not using anything, except for the music, which is from the Original Soundtrack, and not from any of the movie directly, hence no sound effects, lol.
Very nice Chris. Looks awesome. 1 slight point, less bump on the moon closeup. For larger details try a sisplacement map and lower bump settings.

Slowest bloody photon torpedo of all time.

@gobias6 Have you ever seen The Wrath of Khan?
However, this video is 1 year old if not slightly older, before I'd found a better way to make more realistic torpedoes.

A big part of this movie is the music. It tells the story. Thank you for not putting some retard music on this and for staying with the original.
MrMichael1701 7 months ago
@MrMichael1701 Thanks, even though I don't like when people use words that really don't fit, for example, retard.
I'm a proper word usage nazi, lol.

@CJCA915 I see, so you're against slang usage here. Thank you for clarification.

I recreated the Mutara nebula exterior shot if you're interested.
I'm willing to share it for free.

It would be awesome if you could actually add some of the bridge scenes from ST II along with this CG imaging. Absolutly incredible, great job...

I would love to see a re-make of Star Trek II. Just like what they did to the Motion Picture. This is great work, thanks!

Looks awfully like the Orion Nebula to me. :-)
Nicely done, although the actual entry and fade into the nebula was a little weak. Very tough to do though, you did well to get what you did.

Any chance of a full blown story? It will be worth any kind of wait.
