Syd Barrett was a rock icon for much of the music world in that he was the founding member of Pink Floyd. He turned away from the band due to mental issues. I have done my fare share of psychadelics and admit I feel I had some enlightenment because of them. Some of the experiences were amazing. My conclusion however is that psychedelics do not only effect those who have latent mental illnesses negatively. In even the "mentally healthy" they begin a scrambling and degradation of natural mental faculties such as memory and problem solving. The more they are done the more this offsets any "spiritual" gains that may be achieved.
