I think it's because the assertion that Jews run everything is reminiscent of, and not infrequently goes hand-in-hand with, the idea that a secret Jewish cabal is trying to take over the world, an idea that has often been used to justify persecution of Jews. Donahue made perfect sense. Media execs are about 60% Jewish, which equates to undue influence. The result is Europeans having arguments with Americans because they are simply getting two very different versions of reality, with Americans getting it filtered through a Jewish made lense. Gibson was drunk, and he was probably referring to the present Gulf War, which we are now finding out couldn't have happened without Jewish initiative.
