  • Who filmed this?

  • boy that woman at the end isn't much of an actor

  • The most fascinating part of this video is the cut-in. This became very normal in later cinema, but was pretty rare at the time. The cut-in is one of the earliest forms of analytical editing and very important for the continuity editing!

  • Dat ankle!

  • What a hussy!

  • the term gay applies then AND now

  • I think a better name might have been 'The Foot Fetishist Shoe Clerk'.

  • well, the women are played by men, so it COULD be homosexual...

  • @TheBirthOfFilm It's from Edwin S. Porter

  • Fun fact: the close up is actually one of a man's leg. Apparently this is true, though for the life of me I can't think of a reason why Edison would have done it.

  • when i first watched this, i was like "uh oh. she's showin' leg. uh oh! more leg! WOAH!!!! TOO MUCH LEG!!!" lol!!!

  • Too funny!!

  • Oh man, did you saw that ankle? Fapfapfapfapfapfap.

  • Oh wow, yes you can see how he is gay. Look how he flits his wrist when he gets the shoes from the boxes.

  • Damn you, James Urbaniak.

  • very appropriate music! sounds like Joplin tune....

  • MLIA

  • i was at champs shoes, and the clerk actually put my shoe on for me and laced it, i was quite shocked

  • @iloveclassics50 did you get turned on ?

  • damn I remember when they had people that did that got the shoes for u and put them on ur foot to see if they fit..

  • That close-up is one of the first in cinema history.

  • that must be almost porn in 1904.

  • OMG What a perv. He deserved that beating for behaving like such trash! Also that ho should be arrested for public indecency. >:(

  • how was that gay

  • its not gay as in homosexual its gay as in happy jolly...

  • Gay happy not the other gay hahaha .

  • Like "HAPPY". Really happy to have that job- access to Ladies feet, ankles and in this case lips.

  • That'll learn ya, perv.

  • Those shoes... So ladylike.

  • What a brazen hussy!:)

  • That midi workstation soundtrack is awful.

  • That shoe clerk wasn't TOO gay, was he? ;)

  • i think it meant happy in those days

  • I know I know! ^_^

  • ahahahhaa

my pop culture teacher told us to watch this.

    haha thats funnnyy

  • Still funny after all these years ...

I'd love to see more early Edison films on YT, such as Laughing Gas (1907) which features one of THE first African-American actress on the screen.
