  • Edward Woodward was a Great Actor and a True Gentleman, I had occassion to meet Mr. Woodward in New York City during the shooting of an Equalizer episode. I was the Emergency Medical Technician on the that particular episode. He was very gracious, he shook my hand. I told him how I loved his portrayal of Merlin in Merlin and the Sword. I was so saddened to hear of his death. He will always be my Merlin.

  • That great show, The Equalizer, was such a perfect show for Edward Woodward! He was so good in that role! One of my favorite shows ever! The crap they put out today does not even compare to The Equalizer!

  • Edward Woodward was one of the finest actors of his generation, every part he played he did so convincingly. Nobody did 'menace' as well as EW, eg Callan & Robert McCall. He made a very convincing hardman, despite not being very tall, or large in build. In both characters cases, he really did convey the idea that he was ready, willing & able to punch an opponant in the throat with lethal force!

  • RIP Mr Woodward.

And may God allow you live long, Mr Valentine(or Baron Adelbert Gruner).

  • If you want a real treat watch the great Australian film "Breaker Morant".

A classic with the glorious Edward showing us how good he was at his craft, as usual!

The other main actors also shine in this film but don't quite manage to outshine Ted!

I doubt if anyone manages to watch the end without tears in their eyes!

It is on YouTube so watch and maybe it will be one of your all time favourites too!

  • Edward Woodward and Anthony Valentine - two great actors. Absolutely wonderful in Callan.

  • Still watching "The Equalizer". Best TV Series ever !!!

    R.I.P Mr. Woodward.

The Equalizer still flashes the screen with your great acting skills and the powerfull 80s Synthesizer tunes.

"Got a problem, need help, odds against you, Call The Equalizer".

  • EDWARD WOODWARD R.I.P. YOU WERE TOPS IN MY BOOK, ACTING AND SINGING, HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN JUNE 1, I MISS YOU AND LOVE YOU BROTHER REST AND GOD BLESS

  • A true gentleman. I had the priviledge of meeting him while working as a PA on the Equalizer in NYC. (which I got after crashing a Holloween party at the studio...he bumped into my girlfriend two times!). He had a fine sense of humor and humility as well.

  • Farewell Mr.woodward one of the true greats...thanks for all your brilliant acting over the years..you will be sadly missed..God Bless..sleep well.

  • Edward Woodward was a brilliant actor and so is Mr Valentine. It is an end to an era and may he rest in peace.

  • Can anyone recall a Brit TV comedy series about a removal firm, where EW was the gaffer?

  • I think it was "Common As Muck".

  • @davidwrightatloppers -- correct!

  • @alanstarkie2001 Common as muck was about a council refuse (garbage) department that was being privatised. Also starred Tim Healey. It was a Comedy drama broadcast late evening due to the adult nature of the show. the song Ghost riders in The Sky was often quoted by the lads..

  • He was one of the few actors I really admire. RIP

  • RIP Edward you were fantastic in the Wicker Man and took the film to cult status, but showed your ability to diversify in your role as the Equalizer and again took it to the next level, sleep well my friend.

  • Shame about Edward, he had so much left to give.

  • I liked Edward a lot, his best film i thought was Breaker Morant, but to me he was always a reliable and conscientious actor. He'll be remembered and remembered well. May he rest in peace.

  • I loved Callan, a brilliant series, Woodward was a giant of a TV star, a genuine talent and very compelling. Oddly enough, I often watch Anthony Valentine when I watch my DVDs of Space:1999, where he played an alien in "War Games".

    He's also very talented!

    Ade

  • Sorry I meant to press the green thumbs up on this. DOH!. Anyway I didnt know he starred in Space 1999. I agree with you he was very talented and thought he was awesome in The Equalizer. Now I just hope they don't make an Equalizer film now.
