Bravi bravi(ni).. ottimo suono, grande performance.. è un piacere ascoltarla.. però, forse, qualcuno dovrebbe dir loro che non stanno suonando Beethoven, o Mendelssohn e tanto meno Tchaikivskij.....

Bashmet does not compare well against even a moderately successful generic violinist. Against someone in Vengerov's class, it's borderline embarrassing. That's why this piece works best when played by two top violinists - like Perlman and Zukerman.
@GregHuismans Mr. Bashmet was one of the top violinists of his class in his day before he switched to viola. He keeps up with Vergerov beautifully. As a violist, I personally think that it's a shame when violinists play this piece, even if they are Pearlman and Pinky. One misses the essence of a true "viola" sound. Sure, it may be flashier, but there is certain philosophical life, an overtone of mystery, that is lost.
It kind of annoys me that Bashmet and Vengerov (at least in another video, I don't know if he did in this one) feel that they have to conduct the orchestra, as if the musicians are unable to keep up with the soloist.
That is Bashmet's orchestra and to conduct them for musicality's sake is not wrong. In fact, it is really hard to keep an ensemble that large together without some form of guidance. They do a good job of communicating with each other as a whole orchestra, but there are some where the time may not be as strict and the whole orchestra needs to know where a clear beat is, such as at 3:40.
Mozart actually wrote fragments of a Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola, and Cello in A Major, but he barely finished one movement of it before he died
thx for keeping me update about mozart's unfinished work for Violin, viola and cello. Wonder if there's any way to see the score even it is incomplete??
Bashment is amazing. I was there when he played his first recital in united states. I was a student at New England Conservatory and he played his first recital at our school. I remembered he played some 8 encores that night. what a beautiful tone he has !!
You mean Perlman and Zuckerman? Or Stern and Zuckerman? I have the video of the Stern and Zuckerman one, and that's by far and away the best one out there.
Wow This is bad. Bashmet doesn't play loud enough, and he's weird at conducting. The song is 13 minutes long. Either it's severely edited, or they just cut out a lot of stuff durring the preformance. Watch the Issac Stern and Pinchas Zukerman version. That's the way it's supposed to be.
i love bashmet's playing and i like vengerov's too, but bashmet conducting just looked rediculous, especially since he conducted with him bow. Also, watching Bashmet stare at the music , it was like he was sightreading. finally, having focus on vengerov staring at bashmet just feaked the shit outa me
To my taste this performance is rushed and seems under-rehearsed.Vengerov's facial gymnastics seem self-regarding, cloying and ultimately distracting from the music. 4:30 is a perfect example. He looks like he just came in his pants.
Damn! Great video. If anyone other plays Viola, I have some great projects, including websites about Viola. If anyone want to support Viola then contact me at bratsch @ ofir . dk
I wonder if it's possbile for Bashemet to not conduct. I mean,....come on. It looks pretty bad. How much spot light and recognition does want. Vengerov does an awesome job. So does Bashmet. I would have kept things in the same era as it was written, than making it so romantic. And wow does Bashmet ALWAYS decide to change the tempo here.
I would like to personally thank the cameraman for avoiding closeups on Vengerov's face! THANK YOU! It's so nice to finally watch him play without seeing the bizarre ticks and grimicaes. Nice performance! :)
plz can someone tell me what channel is that? I saw a part of a documentary with its symbol but I want to find the entire documentary!

Yuri Bashmet made a CD recording with Anne-Sophie Mutter of the Sinfonia Concertante in 2005.
Wolfgang(what a genius !)could entitled "Double Concerto for violin and viola " didn't he ? Sorry, just an opinion...

It got intimate there near the end. It's like they were making love, musically speaking, of course.

Reminds me of the performance by perlmann and zudermann. The two teams played it so differently but so great !!!
What a beautiful piece !!!! Wish he had written a concerto for Viola and cello !!

BSG751,
If you combine parts 1a and 1b, guess what - you get thirteen minutes.

maybe BSG751 wants it longer than 13 minutes. Lol

Si nos ponemos a criticar, Mozart no es tan fresco en la version de stern y zukerman...entre otras cosas.. en fin, de todo podemos aprender...

Vengerov ruins everything, it's not about you and your crazy faces Veng, its about the duet. God he sucks.
