  • It looks so much like my austalorp biggie!

  • so cute!!

  • I love the little "buck?! buck!?!" noises Black Australorp ladies make :D <3 <3 <3

  • She possibly could be broody if you guys have a rooster! If she is that would be pretty cool to watch her raise it.

  • @PinkFloyd4567

You don't need a rooster for a hen to go broody. I saw one go broody on some golfballs once.

  • how old is she here

  • Lol it is rare, but possible for chickens to have more than one egg a day. I've seen it with my own eyes. My silly chicken Stripe, wanted to come inside the house one day, she noticed that the closet was open, and sat down, the moment she sat down *POP* came out an egg =D, I was still watching her, when *POP* came out another egg! =D

  • Cool, twins :)

  • Not at all! Mine usually is only broody for a day, and then she's kicked off by her sisters. Try posting at backyardchickens*dot*com, its a forum and I always get great advice.

  • We also have Black Australorps and they are the broodiest! All day on the nest, but they lay...

  • She just went broody 2 weeks ago. Day and night on infertile duck eggs. I don't want her hatching any of her own because they were fertile. But she won't eat or go potty all day and night and her poor comb is all shriveled up. I take her food and snacks and drinks all day but she doesn't have much interest in it. Do yours growl too when you get close?

  • I've also heard that to "break" a broody chicken you can isolate them in a place they can't brood, like a chickenwire box. Its a question of breaking the hormone cycle. Luck

  • yer its quite funny and take her off the nest once a day so she can shit and feed so on

  • @Kasia5872 yeah my hens go broody far too often!

and to answer your question they also do that same bubling noice?

if you dont want her broody dip her underside in a bit of cold water and separate her from any potential nest & eggs. and in about 3-7 days she should be snapped out of her broodyness. but repeat this dipping motion everyday, bit definitely not at night.

  • lol all my chickens have is half of a cardboard box. thats a nice nest

  • Lilly picked this one as her nest. The kitty bed was actually used by my duck as a bed, and Lilly climbed in one day and laid an egg. She's been laying eggs in that cat bed ever since.

  • first comment yay!!! :)
