A Summer of 2008 encountered within my self depression I read for hours at a local Library , one day i walked past by the CD section and just placed my hand and reach to a random CD... it was Nick's "Pink Moon" , THAT day I discovered Nick Drake , THAT day was one of the Best days of my life. Thank You sir , I shall visit your grave perhaps soon.
@johnnypocketable Haha, I understand. I don't like seeing great music lose it's meaning in commercials either, honestly. But the good thing is that people discover great artists through commercials. I remember that song New Soul by Yael Naim a few years ago was in a MacBook commercial and it became popular. Interesting how that works. Nick Drake's sold more records than ever after that commercial. I find that pretty cool.
Nick Drake is without doubt the greatest songwriter of his generation and no others come close to matching his beautiful craftmanship. The world lost a wonderful talent and it will be a long time before a lot of people get over this loss to music.
The iconic photo of Nick standing by the wall with the briefcase-late-for-work guy sprinting past aptly symbolizes the world rushing past while the artist hangs back and sees the world at his pace...
I'd like this song played at whatever send-off my family plans for me. It's such a perfect farewell song, like a bittersweet love letter to those left behind. God, what a loss for us all when he died.
i'm going to personally kill the next person to try to get people to go listen to their music by posting on this genius's videos. fuck yourself, idiots.
@thecritiquevirtuoso I bought this album actually a year before the AT&T commercial. I was glad that I was able to reconigze it. I'm glad that I bought the album.
i love bob dylan but its like dylan is fiction and talks in metaphors while nick drake means everything he says and brings his uniqe perspective on life to his music
Was this song on a commercial or movie or something? I keep connecting it to something like that in my mind but can't figure it out. Was it an AT&T commercial maybe?
@Kr33mpuff yep it was an AT&T commercial. When I first saw that commercial over a year ago, it surprised the shit out of me, because I was listening to Nick Drake daily and wasn't sure if my subconscious was playing the song or if it was actually the commercial.
i have spent hours walking outside with no destination with this song playing and a blunt in my hand because all the emotions i cant express verbally when hearing this song come flooding through. its a nick drake effect not much other artists can do
@dionrowntree That is an excellent suggestion. Cumberpatch would probably resemble Nick quite a lot as well, with a few tweeks here and there. I hope it's a British actor that plays Nick. Will not be happy if they pull in an international actor just to draw the money in.
I'm an aspiring singer/songwriter. I'd like some feedback on my music, and I figured I'd go to a respected artists page to find fans who know what's what. If you would like to critique, slander, or praise my music that would be appreciated. I appeal to your superior musical culture as nick drake lovers
So few persons know of Nick Drake beyond "Pink Moon". That's tragic. His tunes may not be "hits" as perceived, they are more like great works of art or literary genius. Not saying that they don't sound superb, like heaven to the tenth degree, it's just that these songs are so sophisticated and over a lot of casual listeners heads.
I coach a basketball team and we upset the #1 team in our final game and thought we would make the tournament. However upsets in several other games kept us out. We were all pretty sad, but the next day I listened to this song and I felt better. The whole "now we rise..." and "go play the game that you love..." seemed to speak right to me and my team.
this song brings tears to my eyes, I went to visit my Dad for the first time in 5 years and he played this for me. I'll always remember my Dad through Nick Drake :)
I may not know as much as some here about Nick Drake, but I hate the fact that people are celebrating the fact that it has been used to advertise products
it's too bad that he was so shy and introverted, he could have acquired a monumental audience and much greater mainstream success. I guess that makes him that much more of a hidden gem to those that don't know his genius.
that is written on his gravestone, ive been to it.
i am named after this man, i know he had self esteem issues (ironically so do i) but if he were still alive today, i hope that would make him feel important and loved as he should be.
I'm so glad I'd seen that at&t commercial. If it had not been for them I would not have discovered such beautiful music. How could people not notice him ? I'm glad to say I am a fan of Nick Drake. His music touches you very gracefully.
he is such a talented musician like a neil young that was never heard by so many, there should be a movie made about his life to let people know what they have missed for the past 30 years.
@tpstrat14 think the fact that commercials, movies etc,let people hear the brilliance of people like nick drake, and others, more than makes up for the methods,or reasons they use to do so.its a commercial world we live in,business rules, thats just how it is!!(hence the x-factor etc, etc)a million views here, and its not gonna stop, the volkswagen, pink moon advert, probably put nick drake on the map!he never benefitted from his brilliance, but at least everyone else can!!!
This is the last song on his last album and it is a 2 minute summary of the beauty that came from all his previous songs. After I heard it, there was silence that filled my room and I realized that there was no more of Nick's work to be heard. I wasn't sad since every time I hear a song of his, there's something new that comes from it. He didn't only record three albums, he recorded an infinite amount. Thanks again for your music Nick.
@julzrulzable Stop trying to be figurative and deep and accept the fact that your words do Nick Drakes work no justice. Logical fallacies are not rhetorically effective you stupid cunt. He recorded three albums, if you have a different interpretation of his work every time you hear it than just say that, dont spew mindless want-to-be poetic bullshit and stop insulting the mans work.
@BloodofErin1798 Seriously, the man just wrote how he felt about the song, and clearly a fair few people share his feelings about Nick Drakes music. You might find his statement ridiculous and silly, but to call him a stupid cunt over it is just plain immature. There's no need to be so argumentative.
@BloodofErin1798 Ok man, I get it. Keep in mind though that what you spew is also marked as a comment under Nick Drake's work and it does not deserve to be here. Next time inbox me.
I just love this tune. I have only just discovered Nick Drake and I love him so much. What a wonderful singer/song writer. He has become a big part of my life these days. Blessed be and merry be. x
@theOUCHcollective he had a profound understanding of how our lives are lost without full connection to nature & of how as people (animals) we are part of the whole, not above it -he sees the feminine in nature, an echo of our natural spiritual roots- he learnt about animism from the servants in his home and was apparently fascinated by Glastonbury, Stonehenge and ley lines- he was like a pagan in a very wide sense, feeling the natural light of life through himself & translating this into music
@bootes33 Many Thanks for information. It was very kind of you to let me know that stuff. I also like Stonehenge and Glastonbury and have been there many times. I will remember Nick next time I am up the Tor.
Dans le pang of childhood i was thrusted my chalice is wine. i was sent in to flights of chaste fantasy.i was destroyed by hope. and i was still born.
the other way is tyranny. What could i say, i dont believe in the rights of man, i believe in the ways of man.. The day stormed and everyone agreed, And here i am in hell, where every fat lesbian gets to speak for humanity.
I feel that it is physically impossible to like this song,
i now know why my father force fed me Nick Drake and only recently have i become aware of how beautiful and talented this man is. His music makes me feel as if i'm in a different world. It has the ability to make me cry.. with happiness

Thanks again.

the other way is tyranny.

Do you think being born from death will be as scary as dying in life?
